Hi, thanks for the video. I have a question about the way you exhale under water. Some say it should be done through your nose, some say you should start with your nose, then connect your mouth. Some say you should exhale from both nose and mouth at the same time. And some say you should exhale through only mouth. It seems to me that there is no "correct" variant and you can use any that help you swim smooth and far. But what would be your recommendation? What are advantages and disadvantages of different exhale techniques? Thanks!

about breathing, i believe that if you are breathing (on freestyle) on a 2x1 fashion (1 breath every arm cycle) you can make a shallower breath than you need to do if you are breathing, let's say on 6x1 fashion (1 breath every 3 arm cyles). so, its hard to me to find the balance between speed/endurance/breathing. the same applies to butterfly which the breathing window is a way shorter. ps: i love this channel.

1 00:00:02,160 --> 00:00:04,140 FREESTYLE TUTORIAL 자유형 교범 2 00:00:07,819 --> 00:00:11,879 The best way to learn new skill is to focus on one thing and practice it frequently. 3 00:00:13,060 --> 00:00:18,620 The next time you swim, it is a good idea to focus on your shoulders and head position as explained on these 4 points. 4 00:00:18,980 --> 00:00:21,560 1. Break the surface with the top of your head. 1. 5 00:00:22,800 --> 00:00:26,460 Your eyes should be pointing between the surface and the bottom of the pool. 6 00:00:30,100 --> 00:00:36,000 If you look up too much, you will create drag and your lower body will sink, creating more drag. 7 00:00:37,480 --> 00:00:41,900 If you look down too much you will create excess drag with your head and shoulders. 8 00:00:45,540 --> 00:00:47,980 2. Rotate your shoulders. 2. 9 00:00:49,240 --> 00:00:54,900 The rotation of the shoulders is very important to prevent injuries and to pull more water with each stroke. 10 00:00:55,740 --> 00:01:00,780 This should be a natural rotation caused by the reaching of one arm and the recovery of the other. 11 00:01:02,680 --> 00:01:04,680 3. Keep your head steady. 3. 12 00:01:04,900 --> 00:01:08,300 If you are not breathing, then your head should be completely still. 13 00:01:09,960 --> 00:01:14,080 This might be a challenge especially when the shoulders are rotating correctly. 14 00:01:14,420 --> 00:01:19,200 But if you focus on following the lines on the floor, it will be easier to keep your head still. 15 00:01:21,200 --> 00:01:23,400 4. Breathe during the recovery. 4. 16 00:01:23,840 --> 00:01:27,260 A good breathing timing can improve your stroke dramatically. 17 00:01:28,000 --> 00:01:30,560 The breath is short and quick. 18 00:01:30,560 --> 00:01:33,020 It should take less than the arm's recovery. 19 00:01:33,840 --> 00:01:36,480 Your mouth should be twisted to one side. 20 00:01:37,100 --> 00:01:39,680 Only one goggle should be out of the water. 21 00:01:43,520 --> 00:01:50,660 If you turn your head too much, you will mess up the timing, your arms will be forced to slow down and you will sink a little. 22 00:01:51,540 --> 00:01:54,020 Remember to practice one thing at a time. 23 00:01:54,400 --> 00:01:56,680 1. Break the surface with the top of your head. 1. 24 00:01:56,840 --> 00:01:59,060 2. Rotate your shoulders. 2. 25 00:01:59,460 --> 00:02:01,480 3. Keep your head steady. 3. 26 00:02:01,640 --> 00:02:03,960 4. Breathe during the recovery. 4. 27 00:02:05,420 --> 00:02:09,880 Bonus tip. Don't forget to make this face, while you put your goggles on. 28 00:02:11,820 --> 00:02:15,680 Thanks for watching! Swim fast!

I have just started learning swimming. It has just been 15 lessons. I can cross the entire width holding my breath. But breathing is a tough job for me. Inhaling through mouth, turning my head on one side, taking care that one eye remains submerged and only one is out of water. I am trying to breathe in this manner for the last two days, but it is giving me problem.

Hi Skills NT. Thanks for the excellent video :) I got one question, I always try to keep one goggle in the water when turning the head, however I am bit unsure where to look when rotating the head to the side. Should I be looking at the side of the pool or maybe a bit behind? I am very conscious of this because I really want to avoid to lift up my head during the rotation, and then maybe put it down again. Or even avoid tucking the chin down a bit, which is a bit of the same, eg. lifting a bit, then tucking the chin. Right now my solution to this has been to think that the head "floats" to the side with as little resistance as possible. Still not sure if I am doing it right.
@SkillsNT7 жыл бұрын
+henrik i I was just analyzing that myself. I would have to analyze it and do a bit of research to be sure. I'll get you back on this

The part where the video mentions that one goggle should stay in the water, your eyes should be looking to the side of the pool. This helps us practice turning the head to the side (instead of pulling it up) while not going too far. You can practice this by laying down on the side of the pool with enough of your body overhanging the edge to practice a stroke (just one arm at a time). With your head down (simulating the head's freestyle position), you begin the turning the head to the side as that arm is halfway through the catch. By the time the arm starts recovery, the head is almost in position to take a breath. Remember high elbow during recovery and look to the other edge of the pool as you inhale. I try to imagine "showing off" my armpits to the crowd during recovery to help keep my shoulder in place and arm relaxed as it begins to enter the water for the next stroke. This video repeats working on one thing at a time and there's a lot of different aspects of swimming that contribute to proper breathing during freestyle. So if at first you don't succeed, realize that eventually you'll need to hone all of these skills to help your breathing technique. If legs are sinking while you're practicing drills, use a pool buoy between the thighs so you can concentrate on the technique you're practicing without dragging the legs. As you further hone the skills, you can remove the buoy and practice while kicking.

It is, if you do that in purpose haha 🤣 when you accidentally drink some water on breathing, it is a sign that you need to perfect your breathing position and pay more attention to the flow of oxygen(inhale and exhale) in your body. Just make sure you have space for your mouth out of the surface to breathe normally
