Wow conditioner and oil(NATURAL OILS) in a pool are gross? .. you people seriously need to educate yourselves! How about the pee, dead skin, dirt, and bugs in the water. Use your common sense. this is an amazing method! Very smart idea. LOVE!

I also read somewhere that it is a good idea to wet your hair completely before getting in the water. The reason for this is that because your hair is already saturated, less of the salt water or chlorine will penetrate your hair.

i have used this the last 3 summers and its been a LIFE SAVER. also I find that using color treated conditioners are better because often they contain uva/b protection (my hair is color treated but id use anyway for those benefits) so its especially great if you're going to be laying out. I use the garnier frutis one in the red bottle (or if its changed the color treated one) and the shampoo is the same if you chose to shampoo but those are my fave

Hi, I'm a competitive swimmer and I have to tell you that we CANNOT and I mean ABSOLUTELY CANNOT swim with that much conditioner under our caps...they slip right off since they're mostly silicone!! I'm natural as well and I have this problem and I have yet to find a protective product that WON'T make my cap slip off.

Maybe get a better swim cap. A swim cap shouldn't be a moment from slipping off like that. Also, put a little less conditioner and skip the oil all together. Works just fine.

Hi, I've only been a natural for about a 1yr and 9 months and I honestly can say that even though I watch many other natural haired youtubers your video's are the one's that have gotten me through this journey. Cause their has been many times I lost my faith in my hair getting longer and I also started to dislike my curl pattern and I wanted to go back to the creamy crack aka perms/ texture softener, but I sat down and would turn to your channel and it would persuade me to not give up and continue with my journey....so even though you may not know me, I just wanted to say Thank You and continue with your videos ;)

you wanna put water first, so that when the water molecules from the pool manage to break the oil barrier and get through, you hair will be soaked with moisture from the clean water(without pool chemicals)you put first preventing the unclean water from entering. Its like your back up protection in-case the oil slips out!

I love this video! Obviously she cleansed her hair from all the impurities that's in a pool. She shows us the best and healthy ways to maintain her hair. She gives great advice to us natural women. Someone will always question what about urine or chlorine? Okay what about the build up of styling products?! We take it out by cleansing. The mud wash is phenomenal I use it myself and I love it. think about to get rid of impurities from your hair rather than washing with shampoo. Just ponder on that

This video couldn't be more timely! Off to Greece on thursday & been nervous about protecting my hair while in the sea! I'll admit I'm taking the easy route by braiding my hair with extensions though but I will still be coating my hair with the braids before swimming. I've also read that it's good to put some coconut oil on the hair before putting the conditioner on top to seal in the moisture and coconut oil also protects the hair from hygral fatigue caused by the constant wetting and drying

sorry for the really late reply, but i like to think of it like this: your hair is kind of like a sponge, so in order to stop the chlorine water from getting into our hair, we must soak our hair in clean water, conditioner and oils to stop frizz, and all the other bad things that chlorine creates. so, in summary, drench your hair in water, put a medium amount of conditioner in and just enough oil to coat your hair. you see, because your hair is kind of like a sponge, once it's full of water and product, you can't add anymore. that's like fully soaking a sponge in water, and then trying to soak it in another liquid when it's already full; it just doesn't work. so if your hair has already been drenched by conditioner, your hair has closed the gate to moisture and won't let the oil in. so just be reasonable and fair with it, and don't OVERLY moisturise your hair. :) (if that made annnyyyy sense whatsoever)

I think an oil or butter would be better than plain old conditioner as it won't rinse out as easily with water, i would saturate my hair in coconut oil from roots too tips, being very very generous, then braid it or twist it making sure that it will stay secure with a hair tie or pin, soak the hair with some freshwater(and i mean DRENCH it, let it sit for a bit if you have too and soak it again), then 'seal' each braid with some shea butter as it has some uv protecting properties

I swim at least 3 times a week for my triathlon training and there is a website called Sporty Afros that gives great info for exercising naturals. This is pretty much the same steps I use (except the oil) but I always wear a swim cap. If you wear a swim cap, get a lycra cap to fit underneath your latex or silicone cap. That will keep the cap from pulling on your hair. I've been swimming for years and have never had a problem with my hair despite using a silicone based conditioner when I swim.

Hey Whit..Usually I never go near the stuff, but I use petroleum jelly and small bit of conditioner coated on my hair. I find it to be an awesome barrier. And since I use the mud wash (or benonite clay with tea tree , lavender and rosemary oil)my hair never has any problems. I have been doing the petroleum jelly and conditioner thing since I was girl. Somehow I knew instinctively I needed a barrier. I will say the added procedure of stretching the hair and the mud wash has completed the process

I am taking swimming lessons now and I noticed breakage after washing with shampoo and concditoner. I did not know how to protect it. This video definitely showed me how to stop the breakage and protect it better. Thanks, God Bless
