The second of three videos documenting my journey through Switzerland on the Swiss Alpine Pass Trail which is also known as Via Alpina 1. I started in Sargans on the Swiss / Liechtenstein border and finished my trek at Montreux on the shores of Lac Leman.
This video documents my journey from Tannensee to Adelboden.

Some absolutely stunning captures on this one. The mountain ranges are immense and some of the best pitches I've seen. What an epic walk.

Interestingly, it was harder to find wild camps on this trek due to the way that Switzerland is managed. Yes it was stunning but it rarely felt wild and there were always people around!! Thanks for taking the time to comment!!

@@morgs4mountains it's interesting how you manage to capture scenes were it is normally just you. It always looks wild and empty! Interesting that the Mountain Fox turned up, did you ever find any trace of your food bag?

I rarely put the camera up on its little tripod when there are people around as I'm so self conscious. I always feel that people might think I'm some aspiring KZbinr which is so daft at my age. No trace of my food bag or contents 😂. Looking back it was really funny. Me getting out of the tent and chasing the bloody thing with no trousers on in the vain attempt at catching it!!

@@morgs4mountains I feel the same. That's why quiet Welsh hills are so good, no-one around to overhear me rambling or wonder why I'm walking past a camera! Must be amusing to look back on, but I could hear the emotion of when you realised how many trips that food bag had been on and now it was lost!

That’s cheered up my Monday morning no end, such spectacular scenery- it’s stirred up my wanderlust and given me some positive vibes 👍🏻 although a couple of those paths looked like they may cause me a bit of ‘disco-leg’!!!! 🤣

This has got to be one of the most stunning trails in Europe! Interest at every turn. I love the way you have balanced these videos, with explanation of the past and coming footage but then just allowing us to enjoy your journey with you. As for the mountain fox, well what a honor to have seen it steal your food! Looking forward to the last video now

Hi Ros. Your comments are simply wonderful and I thank you very much. I'm so pleased that you can enjoy the trail as a result of the style that I have adopted to present my journey. It was a fine fox to be fair and it looked wonderful (despite nicking my food) under a full moon!

I know it's a truism but everything looks so spick and span in Switzerland, from the meadows to the neat villages. Loved your salut to the mountains in this video - they are stupendous.

Thanks Catherine. The 4000m peaks of the Bernese Oberland are really rather special. You're right about the country being spick and span though. Grazing for cows and if not grazing, grass being cut for hay!!

Gosh, the scenery is just stunning... from the opening "reflection" in the lake to the view at 0:47 it set the tone for the video just perfectly. The mountain scenery for anyone that loves the mountains ius a joy to watch in your videos and I feel I am repeating myself each time I say it but you realy put some thought (or it seems that way) into the footage you put together for the videos. So it looks like you are not "foxed" as to wahat visited you on the GR11, lol - sorry couldn't resist. Visions of you chasing a fox up a mountain in the midedle of the night had me chuckling. That climb up onto the Senfinefrugga had me puffing just watching you! Meant to ask when you camp up in the mounatisn how cool does it get - I see you sat outside your tent in shorts n a t shirt and think, it must be warm. B roll image of the epiosde has to be you walking to view the vista at 12:40 Your piece to camera - have to ask, reeling off the names of the passes n villages and no pauses to think where or when you were - do you ever have to "take 2", it's very impressive mate. Another great watch - atb Al ps: just one little additions I would have liked - some of the mountains views... would have ben great for us to have you point out the mountain peaks like the passes you mention when doing the b-roll.

Hi Alan, As per the previous video and your generous comments, thank you. It does get cool at night when over 2000m although the weather was very warm when I was in Switzerland. When I was camped at 2300m, I also had my down jacket and tracksters on in bed, but on other occasions when at 1800m just a T-shirt and shorts. I'm very comfortable speaking in German and can hold more than a simple conversation so the names of many of the places I talk about come very naturally to me. Indeed, one of the pleasing aspects of this particular trip was conversing in German with fellow travellers and never having to revert to English. The Swiss speak what I can only describe as Glaswegian German but when they hear me speak, they revert kindly to Hohe Deutsch and then I fully understand them. The Sefinenfurke and Hohturli in particular were very hard climbs. The steps are there to help mitigate against danger when descending as otherwise the scree slope would be very dangerous, but steps and climbing are always hard work and it was always a relief to get to the col. Thanks so much for the wonderful and detailed feedback. We need to catch up in person!!

A wonderful video and it brings back lovely memories of our honeymoon in the Bernese Oberland. Thanks Morg. I often wonder if we in the U.K. should adopt the American system of hanging our food from a tree or have some sort of canister that is animal proof. I can remember trying to scare off rodents in the night on various long distance paths. Any tips?

It's the second time that my tent has been visited over many, many wild camps. On both occasions I'm convinced now that a fox was the culprit. There were certainly no trees for me to hang the food as I was at 2300m above sea level. I'm not a fan of the idea of carrying a container unless it was legislated as it is in certain parts of California. I do think hanging food when trees are nearby is a valid idea and one that I might adopt. Pleased that the video invoked positive memories for you and thank you for taking the time to comment. It really is appreciated.

Crikey - you are brave sticking your head out of the tent suspecting there may be wolves outside! I think we would have pulled the sleeping bag over our faces and tried our best not to look like food 😬. Shame about the foodbag, but the views sure made up for it. 👍

😂 I thought that whatever was there had gone!! But no, the fox was stood there proudly with my food bag in its mouth. I didn't sleep particularly well after that incident!!!
