The really great thing about this knife is that at around 50 bucks people aren’t afraid to take it out and actually use it without any fear, and by extension it will increase their confidence and build their skills!👍🤙🖖

10yrs ago a big chunk of vg10 would've been expensive. Closer to 200$ Its crazy watching steels evolve. First it was 440c ,then 154cm, then s30v, now magnacut. I mean theres been plenty in-between but over the past 25yrs people get so excited just the same that they're willing to have blinders on when it comes to price. For my outdoor knives i still prefer carbon steel. Im not a bushcrater. I use them around my Uncle's farm or for camp type outdoor chores. I really like simple designs like this here though when it comes to real use. Although i gravitate towards more tactical designs for my fixed blades. If its sharp, ill get the job done. Thanks alot for the video and the wide variety you have to show off compared to some other table top only knife nerd chanels.

While I DO prefer magnacut these days (I have a broker BFF paklite and a Cypress Creek $3 dive knife both are great but the custom is on a different level) VG-10 has always been good to me. Never had a bad experience with VG-10 ever. It's mind blowing how good of a knife this is for the money, I could buy one of these today and a grandkid could still use it 70 years from now it's crazy

I believe that the log you chose to chop through is a species of poplar, which is quite possibly one of the tough, spongier, and abrasive to tooling trees in the region! If this little beast can chop through that, and still make shavings is a great testament to the design. I bought mine today from the local Walmart (the last one they had as the display model!) because I had picked up the “Stählern” and am really happy with it. Now I’m excited to work off the thanksgiving calories going into the bush and making some stuff! I’ll definitely check out your other test videos, as they are probably putting tools to work rather than just cutting cardboard 😅

Excellent testing. Most thorough, I've seen. I dont want to act like i know anything but if i was going to make a fire with it, i would absolutely try the smooth edge of the spin, above the gimping up by the tip. Not my preferred area to throw sparks from but it my work better for you. I have a harder time controlling where the sparks go the closer to the tip i have to scrape from.

Vg10 is sadly over looked these days because it's considered a budget steel now days when just 15 years ago the composition was literally border line black magic. If vg10 is done well it's among the very best ingot user steels one can buy. Takes an incredibly keen edge and holds it respectably and edge stability and toughness are also more than acceptable for a stainless. People in the outdoors knife and pocket knife world are spoiled seeing vg1 and vg10 at such cheap prices when in the kitchen knife world well heat treated vg1 and vg10 are incredibly popular and very high performance and still cost a premium. Vg10 really is a lot more than just another budget steel in China knives. The part that annoys me with a lot of China brands is they will call it vg10 but it's actually 10cr and while they are compositionally the same 10cr is in no way as tightly controlled in composition and manufacturing as vg10 is and they do NOT perform the same as the composition variations of normal production tolerance for 10cr is so much lower than vg10 and that will show its face during heat treatment as the much more loosely controlled manufacturing of 10cr allows for some rather large variations in hardness and grain structure from the batch during heat treat as where with vg10 the elemental percentages are much more accurate and tolerance between batches are much tighter allowing for much more consistency over the batch during heat treat. Vg1 and vg10 really are fantastic steels and deserve to be noted for their performance characteristics and not as just another budget steel.

You were using the spine where the gimping is to scrape with. That's why it wasn't working. Use the top of the blade spine, where there isn't gimping and it would work much better...
