Tennis coaches are so anti one handed backed it’s scary. I worked as a coach and any time I introduced a one hander to a kid the head pro would step in and say no. Cookie cutter tennis these days. No serve and volley. No volley. No one handers. Play at the baseline, hit heavy topspin, and retrieve balls
@Stratisfied22

That's because they don't know how to teach it. Its a very difficult stroke to learn properly for the average person so explaining the technique correctly is hugely important.

I mean I think for a kid its way easier to start playing tennis and pass balls with a two hander, not saying Its what I would personally teach tho. But yeah tennis has become more physical and power based lately and less about hand skills or technique

@@Stratisfied22 completely agree. I think starting kids with a two handed backhand is the right thing to do. But I had kids that were interested in switching to a one hander from two and I personally don’t see anything wrong with that. I just wish there was more individuality and variety in tennis. One handed backhand player and tennis coach here 🙌🏼. Two handed is objectively more effective and easier to learn and master (not gonna get into details unless someone asks me to), but the most important thing when intoducing the backhand to a new player is to let them try both and see which one they're more natural with.

@@pedropaivalemos It's even more important for the coaches teaching one handed backhands who have never hit one or at least studied the mechanics enough to properly teach it. Because 2 handed is just simply easier to hit and more consistent. It’s easier to control. Why teach a stroke that’s 10x more difficult to master and that doesn’t have the same amount of pros v cons. It literally makes zero sense to learn a one handed backhand
