I ended up picking this up for around $45, and at that price it was a no brainer. The model that was on sale were the linear and I like them. There's no denying that there's an adjustment period to mechanical switches if you have spent your entire life using scissor switches (which no one warned me about). Like I said, I have never used a mechanical keyboard and I think I'll use this as a "baby's first steps" into switches and keyboard enthusiasm. I guess I'll watch some of your videos on how to hot swap keys in the future.

This keyboard took a little getting used to, but after a bit of practice I warmed up to the speed switches quickly. There's definitely a learning curve to them, and they do register slightly before the click, but I find it to be forgiving enough where a light graze does not activate the keys, and any typos I'm making are due to me just hitting a switch by accident. Perhaps the only tricky thing with these switches is sometimes you're not sure the switch has reset when you go for a double key press on the same key. Either way, if you can get the bronze version for $35 or under I think it's worth it. This being my first mechanical keyboard I'm absolutely elated, especially coming from a K120. Love these clicky switches!

I just got this as my first intro to custom keyboards and its great so far!! Swapped the speed Bronzes for Speed Coppers (Sorry I like tactile switches) and PBT keycaps and it feels amazing compared to the previous keyboard I was using. YOU CAN TAKE THE LOGO OFF!!! Like you I too thought the logo was hideous. So I opened up the board (13 screws on top 4 under rubber feet) and there are 4 tiny screws in the plastic contraption holding the EVGA logo in. Once the screws are out the logo slides right out. and your left with a nice Black rectangle (albeit with some holes). Currently having a friend of mine 3d print a piece for me to put over the holes so its nice and smooth. but the LOGO CAN BE REMOVED and it looks 10000% better even with a few holes lol.

Thanks y'all Edit: I decided to buy it since I had a $5 gift card, when it comes I'll update with my thoughts Update: I've been using it for a few days and it's been well worth it. The mechanical feel is great, the RGB is nice, and it feels pretty solid. Only things I don't like are that the keys twist a bit, the travel feels a bit short, and the matte black shows oils really easily, so there's a lot of wiping to do. Few Holiday seasons back, I bought two of these, the linear version with the clears and the box bronze tactile version. 35 bucks a piece at Microcenter on a random afternoon visit. The box bronze switches make that version of the keyboard very nice to use. It has a great typing feel to it. I could type on it all day. The linear version with the clears was way too sensitive. Had lots of double keystroke registers right out of the box and didn't get better with time. I would have only bought the tactile if I had to pay more, but since it's plug swappable, having the clear on hand provides a nice solid base to put switches you want in. A good slab of a 101 key keyboard that seems solidly built. The volume roller is something I really like, too. For some reason I've come to love the big honking EVGA logo. It's such a solid piece of ornamentation. I think EVGA really did try their best with this. Great with the bronze's, shite with the clears but the skeleton is there and it is solid.

It's probably because I have not been exposed to more advanced keyboards, but I really do like this one. Believe it or not, it surprisingly came with my prebuilt gaming PC along with a EVGA mouse (I didn't expect that my order from newegg would come with a new keyboard and mouse). While it could be that I felt I got it somewhat for free, I do like the sleek look, the options for having colorfully lit keys, my fingers somehow feel more naturally in place when typing, and the way they sound when typing. It may not be everyone's favorite keyboard, but I am glad I have as I do with my EVGA mouse (that also lights up colorfully and introduced me to a mouse with side buttons for gaming).

In case anyone isn't aware of evga. The warranty and customer service is second to none. This has a 3 year warranty. Also it's selling for 50 right now. For 50 bucks you just go buy your pbt keycaps and call it a day. This is a total no brainer. That's including my preference for cherry. Hot swappable, 50 great build were good. This is a great buy. The pullers to suck she's right, but most everyone who waters this channel I'm betting is fairly hard core, and has a lot of pullers already. It's a long keyboard, yes, but it's also thing. not like these horrible thick ones that are terrible for ergo. the thing it misses for me is usb pass though. I don't know why i love that so much but i really do. I put my yubikey in there and use it for auth. Keyboard pass though is a really nice feature. I also would have liked a removeable cable. What's the difference between Linear and Clicky switch? I'm looking for quiete keyboard. Any recommendation?
@ShaferHart3 жыл бұрын
clickys produce an audible click that some people like. Linears do not produce that click BUT they're still not quiet in the true sense of the word. Your average mechanical switch produces an audible sound by virtue of their mechanics (low profile ones produce less of this sound and I'll consider them quiet even if tactile, like Keychron's low profile tactile switches).. you will have to look into silent switches if you want a "quiet" mechanical keyboard. I'm in the process of doing that right now... I'm in that rabbit hole. If you're not religious about having a mechanical keyboard you can try the HyperX Alloy Core RGB: it's full size, has independent multimedia keys, rgb, don't need software to customize, etc. and although it's a membrane keyboard the feedback it gives it's very good, not mushy at all and I'd say it has nothing to envy to the feedback a brown switch gives (though it's not the same ofc). I'm not exactly sure what HyperX did to accomplish this since equivalent membrane keyboards from Razer feel awfully mushy. I didn't settle for that one because the multimedia keys are puzzlingly not backlighted and my workspace it's usually very dimly lit so this was a problem. The layout of the multimedia keys it's also confusing. As you can see I'm placing a premium on having independent multimedia keys so your mileage might vary.

HOWEVER, there are videos out the that show your how to silence a Keyboard to near no noise at all, but requires opening up the cases on top of replacing all the switches. She had done a really good video on how to do this and I will be for sure doing it with my first mechanical keyboard

I have been on a quest to find the right keyboard for writing, and have been through a few. It's not the fault of the keyboard, that my fingers are clumsy and don't always do what I tell them, even if I'm watching. I was looking at the stupid expensive Mountain Everest, until I changed across the EVGA Z15. It's $80 off in some places, so hey, $60 instead of $600, that's a win, and it does everything I wanted in the Everest, especially hot swappable switches. As for the big logo, I might get a sticker, draw a skunk on it, and cover up it up, because I like skunks, not using it to comment on the quality of the keyboard itself.

They never clicked into place. I tried other switches which I had ready, the Kailh Hako Royal Clears. Those fit fine. Also tried Cherry MX Blue, which also fit fine. Anyway, in the future, on these hot-swap types of keyboards, it might be good for others to know if there are problems fitting different types of switches. Overall, this is a solid keyboard and well worth what I paid for it ($60 on a Newegg special). Clicky is nice, though not quite as resistant as I prefer. I grabbed one of these for $49.99 on Amazon for a friend's build and replaced the keycaps with some pudding keycaps. It is much more visually appealing. Despite the absurdly sized logo, it is difficult to beat at that price with all the other features it has.

same, I bought PBT pink puding keycaps for 11.99 with discount and the Evga z15 clicky for 49.99. this will be replacing my Razer Huntsman TE TKL Linear optical . crazy price for such a beast of a keyboard

I just bought this keyboard. I like many things about it. What I can't stand with my massively sensitive hearing is the PING while I'm typing. I've tested everything on the keyboard and I figured out the ping comes from the metal top casing. Without even pressing a key if I tap my fingernail on the top steel plate......... I get a lovely PING! Do you think going inside the keyboard and putting in some padding would help? I've already put on O rings and they help but do not eliminate the PINGGGGG. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Also, what do you think about the XPG Adata board? It's similar to this one with a metal top...which I love to SEE...and not hear. ;-)

Flop. Bought this keyboard because of your video. The Z15. I shut my rig off every night. But when I start it the next day, the keyboard sometimes comes on or not. I have to pull the USB cord out of the computer to get it to work. I called EVGA, they told me to ship the keyboard to them as my expense. I choose to send it back to Amazon for a replacement. Same issue again. Could it be my rig or the keyboard. I am going to say the keyboard. Another con is I have yet to find a video on how to use the macro function. The videos EVGA have on their site just mention they have it but no explanation. Would not buy this keyboard and will be taking it offline in the next couple of days. PS. Your video is very nicely done, good production value. But why my keyboard does not work properly is beyond me.

anyone else having issues with the board locking up during gameplay? i have problems where it will believe that some of my keys are constantly pressed until i unplug the keyboard. i have also had an issue where the board is not recognized after a restart or when my PC goes to sleep. same process to fix it though. unplug and replug it back in. just kinda frustrating for this on a new keyboard.

Hi, amazing video!! im getting my first mechanical keyboard and i dont know if i should buy this (kailh speed bronce) or the hyperx alloy origins 65 (aqua) both are at the same price in my country. Manily ill use it for gaming but also "common use" (making use of the num pad and multimedia keys) so what is the advice of a pro? Thank you in advance.

Should I get the Z15 or the Z20? Edit: I got the Z15! Amazing keyboard, and definitely worth it. I had originally bought the Z20 but cancelled my order after realizing that it didn't have hotswappable switches. The branding for me isn't a big issue at all since I think it looks kinda cool, and it isnt very noticable while its on my desk with all my stuff around it. I definitely recommend it, and its only 54 dollars CAD on amazon rn! Thanks so much for your review!

@nickquang19963 жыл бұрын
If you have amazon where you are, just need to look for "keycaps" they are fairly popular. Some popular options include hyperx pudding, pbt, hk gaming, tai hao, etc. If you're new I recommend just getting whatever most aesthetically pleasing, don't bother with the technicals.

@@nickquang1996 thank you. I ended up picking up a pretty decent set I guess more what I was asking was what type because I wasnt sure about the cherry style and stuff like that, still not so sure but they fit lol. Thanks.

EVGA not the first one and won't be the last one either. I don't think they picked the right strategy, EVGA is doing what MSI Aorus, Asus ROG (I am only talking about peripherals) did. They should learn from Kingston hyperX, BenZ Zowie instead.

I find it very loud whenever I use it. And I've been trying to find a good mech keyboard that isn't. I have a membrane keyboard that my friends liked, but I don't like how mushy it is whenever I press into a switch. It's a very good keyboard, ngl. I love the design and the usability of it, but the noise it makes (especially at 3am) is incredibly loud even with the linear switches. It isn't very alarming with my good headset on though lol
@protocetid3 жыл бұрын
silent switches exist and you can swap the ones that came with the board
@CxOrillion3 жыл бұрын
You can find this keyboard regularly for $40-50. The Kailh Bronze switches are great. I don't particularly like the silvers. I am currently swapping the silvers to box whites. I didn't notice any problem using the switch puller, but then I only took out 60 switches. Myself and my two coworkers have now bought 5 copies of this board between us. At the common discount price point of $40-$50, this keyboard is a stupid-good deal.
@churro61602 жыл бұрын
I did a lot of you tube watching specifically on silent mechanical keyboards and the reality it that from the factory 99% of mechanical keyboards regardless of which switch are going to make noise (yes even "silent switches"). HOWEVER, the are a handful of videos out there that show you how to silence mechanical keyboards, literally little to no noise. She made at least one video on how to do that with a general custom keyboard, but it does require to open the case and stuff. I love Switch and Click's videos!

Haver a question to anyone with this KB... I am finding the keycaps to be square with large 'tops' and am hitting multiple keys at once. Any suggestions? PBT MX perhaps as they're a little shorter? XDA? DSA? I believe this KB comes with ABS OEM style and find them a bit 'off'. I have a Romer G KB at the other house and those are "okay" but better than these keys. How about low profile keycaps? (I have had this for about a week.. linear speed silvers are QUITE touchy! hahaha hence I need something with more space between the tops of the caps.. and likely going with speed coppers or purple pro's as I do prefer an indent without the clicky sound of a blue/green etc...
@bullyakker2 жыл бұрын
Oh, and i'm planning on grinding the EVGA logo base (underneath the logo) off and either dropping the logo on top of the KB or grind that flat and use some left over pour paint to make it 'nicer to look at"

I had this keyboard for one year, I expected a lot coming from EVGA (my favorite gpus maker) but it's honestly bad. The stabilizatoars got really bad just after one year and I'm not that big of a timer or gamer so that the stabilizatoars would deteriorate that fast.
