Deepin OS - Chinese Knockoff Windows?

I feel like the UI of Deepin has remained fairly consistent over the years, even preceding Windows 11. With that in mind, I think it's more appropriate to say that 11 is a clone of Deepin. Then again they do still differ quite a bit, so calling either of them a "clone" might be a stretch to begin with.

I installed DEEPIN os in 2015 Macbook Air and it's working nice. way better than Zorin OS, Pop-OS, and Linux Mint, even better than Ubuntu.

I think ZorinOS is more of a Windows clone and they admit they want to be well mainly a Windows and MacOS knock off because the whole thing was made using C++ which their Windows subsystem is quite interesting in fact the whole source code reference has modded Ubuntu for those who want a Windows like experience on Linux. You should see the about section on what their legacy is aimed at. The whole community it ATTEMPTING to pull people off Windows and use their distro as a daily driver and CLAIMS to be eco-friendly and has made bald CLAIMS they want to revive older hardware from the grave. In fact I almost even switched to ZorinOS but I know I can POSSIBLY just tweak around with Ubuntu a little bit but it's all optimized for people who don't WANT to mess with any type of Linux coding just like Ubuntu if you use the free version you SHOULD be fine for the most part there is also their calendar setup to consider which is more professional than Windows imo the main scheme is BASED on Windows XP it is a mixture of Cinnamon, XFCE, and Gnome based programming making it a stable Linux based Operating System in fact it looks even BETTER than Windows 11 if you want a beginner friendly distro I would highly recommend testing it on older hardware first if you do want to use it I might put it on an old Dell laptop to play around with it a little or a MiniPC so I can do some emulation on it.

I installed it and it just works and looks so much, so much nicer unlike other distros. No need other tinkering too.

the biggest difference is that with MS Windows you are locked to MS Cloud based AI (ChatGPT) but with Deepin you can use your own locally hosted AI. (Read between the lines)

No Deepin is one I would stay away from. It could contain spyware. The UKUI Desktop is another one to avoid. Just don't use it. There are plenty of other desktop environments.

The look and customization options, easy to control brightness feature, the Windows 10/11 UI look. Its all just fabulous. But being from that Country and the Ai, its not for me, nor would I recommend it.

I do play around with Deepin, but not on Deepin OS. I'd use Arch or Ubuntu in a VM with GPU acceleration

Well to be honest if I want to be spied on let it be China. Why? My country has a extradition treaty with the USA, but not with China. I don't think the Chinese government will come and get me over a dispute about a linux distro.

deepin desktop looks great on the surface but in my experience trying it I had nothing but issues. no wifi drivers, glitchy interface, bad consistency, ans worse performance in games.

Deepin 23 doesn't follow Debian conventions regarding packages names for KVM Hypervisor setup. What makes Deepin 23 completly useless for me .

Imagine running an OS from a country that is doing joint military exercises with Russia in the Pacific; I would feel funny about it. Ok, it might look nice and look like Windows, but the bottom line can I trust it. People have to watch which distros they go with, there is always a catch.

Singaporean here - I don't see a problem with it; the PRC and Russian Federation are taking steps to rid themselves of Windows - As such they are going to use alternative platforms like Elbrus (Russia) and ZhaoXin, LoongArch (PRC) with Debian and Red Hat Enterprise Based OSes.

I would use ZorinOS if you want a distro that claims to aim at privacy and has it installed on numerous desktops including apparently the US Department of Defense and the ISS they CLAIM to be using it as well.
