Longer videos are definitely better. They’re all great anyway but I think the longer videos are better.

Amazing fact: according to Wikipedia, those COER gondolas belong to the Crab Orchard & Egyptian Railroad of Marion, IL. Thats’s got to be the craziest railroad name in the US!

15 minutes is a nice length for a tape as one usually won't be interrupted and can see it in one move. Today's switching is truly a form of Johnny Cash doing one piece at a time except here its putting away a AEX car. For the gons the lessor must have a new task for them. These are longer than the COER gons which have gone to Alter and if one were to look under the sticker you'd see a different reporting mark and number. Unknown if they were restencilled while stored on ELS

I like "ALL" rail videos, long or short. "If" I absolutely had to pick one over the other, I'll always pick "long". 10:15 Map of rail car locations. - No such thing, however, every rail crew member has a subdivision guide that has a map showing all tracks (numbered, in/out of service, number of customer service "spots" and siding lengths). At the beginning of the trip, the conductor gets a list of what the beginning train is composed of (number of cars/number of loads/empties/HazMat/location of the HazMat cars. Then he has a listing by location of pickups and dropoffs. It's just a matter of following the switch-list and not making a major mistake by leaving the wrong car or a car in the wrong "spot". It's a lot of work, but, these days the computer does most of the pre-trip planning for the conductor. I don't know if ELS wrote their own software or like the old WC bought the rights to use the system UP wrote. Somewhere there is a computer system that "knows" the location and status of every piece of rollingstock on the ELS.

More Nathan P5 horn goodness from the 402, I see. What a lovely horn, the kind you'd normally associate with speed stripes and a horse head on the nose of a locomotive!

Long or short videos is always the question. I know you will never please all of the people, or all of the time. Personally I usually try to keep my videos shorter and label them part 1 and part 2, but for some reason nobody seems to watch my videos. I have a whopping 80 subscribers but usually only get 10 to 15 views, so my opinion probably doesn’t carry much substance. Anyway, I enjoy train videos, and if too long I stop them and return to finish later.

Add to my previous comment. Like the long switching vids. It goes along with my train layout which is a switching layout. / JA, my offer still stands on your way south, stop at Gosse's Northwestern House Restaurant in Sheboygan, and lunch is on me with a little extra for your trip. I'm guessing you're leaving next Saturday. We're about 3 hours south of you, just in time for lunch. They open at 11:00am.

They might carry time tables, wich are maps of the system, but doesn't show cars, just track and location. otherwise they have a digital or paper list of the cars and the location they are at, and were they need to go.

What is the UP you mentioned? I like long video's. The diesel's in blue and the blue box cars are old Conrail owned? On one of the diesel's I think it's the old Conrail logo. For us non US rail road fan's could you explain the abbreviations thank's. Were are now in the 20 deg C 70 F, very hot and humid here in the UK. Thanks for the video
