I’ve got a 91 FXR Super Glide and it’s pretty much stock except for screamin Eagle slip ons and I put heavy duty springs in front forks and tall shocks in rear. Super fun old bike. Really enjoy watching your FXR build. It’s giving me ideas.

This is an excellent rundown of this process. It’s pretty much the same for all right-side-up forks on motorcycles. I appreciate the information and parts list for modifying and optimizing the ride performance on these 39mm forks.

With the racetech kit, you only get the gold valves and springs. They are designed to work with the rest of your stock parts to keep the cost low. However you have to modify the stock damper rods to work correctly. FXRDivison sells a set already drilled for around $90 I believe. I wanted to show what needed to be done if you were to buy this kit for your stock front end.

Did you just buy one fork leg slider for the right side and use it with the original fork leg tube in order to get to get dual disk brakes? I have one disk brake fxr and would like to get some simple solution for dual disk setup.

I bought a set of legs, you can get away with just one leg, but most people are usually selling them as a set. Since. Was doing all new internals, I was able to take the stock legs and leave them fully assembled to either sell or use on another project down the road

Great vid. I just bought a 1983 FXRS thinking I'd just be able to buy a bigger brake kit. No, no, no. No such thing...I have to start from scratch with a whole new front end... Advice please? Thanks

Harley still sells the 39mm front end stuff new if you are willing to go that route. Or if you are willing to shop around, you can find complete 39mm front ends that have everything ready to bolt up. Depending on the brakes you want to go with, most is easy to find. If new, ask for front end parts from a 2004 Dyna Defender. Those are factory dual brakes, but are not the cartridge style like the fxdx. So there’s more upgrade options for suspension down the road. Hope that helps

@Me.MyMachinist.and.l Thank you kindly for your reply! I just discovered that my 1983 FXRS does have 39mm forks, The last owner just left the 10"rotors on!!! So my research tells me I just need a 2000 up wheel - then I can go 4 piston 11.5" rotors. Am I correct? Thanks

I haven’t lowered the front yet, however when you buy the racetech kit, it comes with the ability to lower the front up to 2” with their kit. They have additional springs that rest under the damper rod

Any place yall recommend sourcing dual brake forks for an 09 FXD? I’ve been looking all over

You can still order a right leg from Harley brand new, the entire right fork fully assembled part number is 45400052, if you want to use your tube and internals, the lower right leg is 45500230. You can buy a set of bagger brembo brake calipers from a 2008 and newer, and set of rotors from eBay. Hope that helps
