Alex, your proficiency with Linux and the presentation of your knowledge is unmatched in all of my hours of searching. I really appreciate what you're doing here. Would love to be able to contact you with my ongoing journey into the Ubuntu world. I'm loving the switchover from the dismal 8.1 so far, but have been struggling with a couple of nagging issues. Either way, I'm impressed and very thankful that you put your knowledge out there for all to see. Thanks.

Cody D Comments like these make my day. Thank you! If you have any questions, I recommend that you ask them over at the Tek Syndicate Forum: forum.teksyndicate.com/c/software/linux-helpdesk. It is a good medium for discussion and has lots of smart users. If you leave a response here with a link to the Tek Syndicate thread, I'll be sure to check it out and if I know the answer, I'll give it to you. If I don't, hopefully someone else will! Thanks again, mate. I'm glad I could be of help.

5:18 The reason why the apt-get command failed is that you can only have one instance of apt-get running at the same time. It places a lock file, to prevent another instance from running. You need to wait for the other instance of apt-get to finish before you can run this one. Nice video anyways :D

Praise in public criticize in private. My friend, your presentations are lucid, well prepared and definitely worth listening to. Likewise communicating with you would be a privilege, as I couldn't resist the temptation to upgrade to 3.16. All went well, however my Bluetooth headset which is recognized by the system, does not appear in the sound settings. It did work under the previous shell. Oddly enough, my bluetooth for my telephone does work and is recognized under sound settings. Creative Labs not working, Jabra working. Thoughts? I'll check out the forum at Tek Syn.

:) I mean it .. since looks are important to you .. have you tried or looked at elementaryOS 0.3 Freya .. what do you think ?
@bookercodes9 жыл бұрын
Josip Prgomet I think Elementary/Pantheon is beautiful but it is a bit too temperamental in my opinion. I used it on my other computer for a while but it had to go - it often exhibited erratic behaviour and sometimes crashed. I'm still going to keep an eye on its development, though.

What is your take on openSUSE Tumbleweed? It has the fantastic community-driven repos (just like arch does) + yast + a super polish rolling realease distro :) I really hope I see something about it in your videos :)
@bookercodes8 жыл бұрын
To be honest, I haven't given openSUSE a fair chance but I've always been interested since InfinitelyGalactic made his "Switching to openSUSE" series. openSUSE is definitely on my list of distros to try out but at the moment, I'm taking a break from distro hopping as I'm quite content with Arch.

hi, i installed ubuntu 15.10 and did what you showed in video.. update , upgrade etc... I did not install skype , dropbox or did graphic update. When i went to software & update it showed me that the card chosen was open source , tested.. I did not choose propreitery drivers.. Afterwards I went to install gnome shell and restarted computer and then I can't turn it on at all.. This image shows up prntscr.com/aphsir any idea?

Are you able to install GNOME Shell 3.16 in Ubuntu GNOME 14.04 LTS?
@bookercodes9 жыл бұрын
+meowchowder I haven't tried to do personally therefore, I cannot say with any certainty. I _suspect_ that you can, but I recommend that you try to do so in a virtual machine first, as not to mess up your system. Also, bare in mind that the latest (stable) version of GNOME is now 3.18.

Does your Dropbox icon appear at the top? Mine does not :(
@bookercodes8 жыл бұрын
+exfire GNOME doesn't put system icons at the top - it puts them in the notification area or the collapsible tray depending on which version you're using. That being said, if you want system icons to be at the top, I believe there is a GNOME plugin for that.
@crazy-biscuit55298 жыл бұрын
+Code Cast Why would you use a release based option and update the programs to their latest version? Wouldn't you like to use a rolling release instead? I got so annoyed by the extra ppas because they got more and more so I switched to Arch. This did not only address the ppas problem but also made me learn so many new things in a short time frame. (:
