From the moment we announced the eight classes in Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ fans have been pitting them against each other, arguing who would have the advantage in a one-on-one fight. The hallways of BioWare echo this debate, with the writers, combat designers and other developers all chiming in on which classes they feel will have the upper hand.

Vanguards, being the quintessential tank of the Soldier class, is able to hold his own against a squishy Sorcerer. Assassins penetrate and circumvent the Commando, who’s not as bulky as the Vanguard. That battle is up to who can come up with a stronger offensive

This depends entirely on who can catch the other unprepared. If the Assassin is preoccupied with something else or cant close the distance for whatever reason, the Gunnery Commando will pretty much drop it with GR, DR and HIB. The opening burst of Gunnery is absolutely lethal against an unprepared enemy wearing light armor. If, however, the Deception Assassin can attack the Gunnery Commando from stealth, open with 3 stacks of Discharge, stun him and deny the use of Grav Round, the Commando is done for. Without the ability to use Grav Round, he is nothing. So yeah, Assa vs Commando duels are very situational, but 1v1 it heavily favors the Assassin.

Most people forget the trooper is the republic's finest, not their standard soldier. With tactics and a blaster (which shoots faster than a lightsaber swings), the Trooper would win.

Except he wouldn’t. Those two things alone are not things any Sith would have any trouble dealing with. There are no “tactics” differentiating from just shooting at a Sith in head on combat that work any better than other strategies do. The Sith would literally force push any explosives back, or use force speed to effortlessly blitz a republic trooper. Physically they are weaker and slower than any force user.

If you take each class and stack them up against one another. Maxed out and best armour with perfect decision making it works like Rock-Paper-Scissors. Certain classes work better against others. In this battle, the heavy damage output and armour of the Trooper give him the edge. But a DPS spec Juggernaut... thanks for coming out trooper, hell of a try.

It's actually nice to see developers that are passionate about both factions' classes as opposed to WOW's whose dev's are horde centric in every product they churn out. I play SC 2 and there's ton's of horde references.

If these guys knew how to play maybe, No one took into account that A. The trooper has commando (dps/heals) Vanguard (tank/mdps) and tha the Inquisitor has Sorc(heal/dps) and Assassin (tank/dps) If you weigh in these different classes and then add on top of it that each classes subclass has three trees to spec into, not mentioning hybrids, you cant just say whos going to win. It all depends on the player. That is all.

Trooper. I've played a good amount of PVP with my vanguard and almost always beat Sith Inquisitors, Sorcerers and Assassins alike.

The Inquisitor can stun us from stealth before we can do anything, hit us hard, then retreat back into stealth, moving around too much for our scanning ability to be of any use. Since most of the heavy hitting Commando abilities require us to stand dead still and stay completely vulnerable from every direction, we don't stand a chance alone. I've even seen them beat three people at a time using a hit and run tactic I haven't seen many people beat a diehard DPS Stealth Assassin in PvP. If they catch you off your guard, you're done.

What it settles down to is Timing. Gear. And Experince in Pvping. If you have the knowledge to time your attacks and blocks right and have the right gear you will walk away the victory more often then not. Even against high-end foes.

I've just started playing as the Sith Inquisitor last month and am at level 31. I'd like to try the trooper at some point, when I get to it. The class you choose doesn't really matter if you want to win (unless you are better at some things more than others) what matters most is the level of your character in comparison to your opponents. For example, I just solo ran the Athiss Flashpoint. This meant I not only single-handedly beat the Beast and Prophet of Vodal Kressh, but I also managed to fight four level 21 champion sith with Andronikos Revel with little effort. You'd be surprised what that 10 levels higher does for you.

I`m an Inquisitor but it is true what you speak. For example: Order 66=> Troopers totally own all jedi-Knights etc. But if you take only one trooper, there`s not a chance of winning, an Inquisitor can send back your grenade and blaster strikes!
