So happy to have come across this. I remember going to see the Syd Lawrence Band in Guildhall, Winchester with my Mother, when I was probably 12 years old, and enjoying it so much. So much so, that I went up and asked for their autographs!

I probably gave you a programme and even sold you a recording on tape in those days I travelled with Syd Lawrence in his car that would have been a Rolls Royce Gill

Thank you for bringing the Syd Lawrence orchestra from the deepest corner of my memory! I remember seeing them on Les Dawson’s show in the seventies quite regularly.

oh wow! I only just found this now, my dad Norman Brown was tenor sax player in the Syd Lawrence Orchestra for many years, you can see him soloing on Pennsylvania 65000. I miss him terribly and our talks about music, he is now in a care home suffering from Alzheimer’s and vascular dementia.

Very sorry to hear that Sam. I played in bands with your dad and he did some recordings i think with the Andy Prior orchestra I was in at the time. Fantastic sax player & quite a legend amongst fellow musos! My trumpet teacher Dave Browning was also in Syd's band. Best wishes to you and Norman!

You're very lucky to have found a video of your dad playing. I'm extremely jealous. My dad played professionally in the 20's and 30's in a midwest (Chicago, Ill.) band; I remember he and my mom telling stories about band life, but unfortunately there wasn't any video back then.

I went to their first ever rehearsal as a mix of BBC northern dance orchestra and Granada band members, then followed them each week as they increased their book.

If I didn’t know better I would swear the drummer on the Royal Variety Clip is my old a dear friend, Geoff Myers?

Looks like the Sez Lez recordings were done in one day, and then spliced into some of the endings of the show over the series ?
@gilljames63702 жыл бұрын
Yes there was a days rehearsal and then a live recording in the evening with the guest appearance of some very high class performers. I was in the audiece every week when I was a driver for a member of the SLO
