@@matti72033 That makes me sad! In 1990 I was 18 and let my friend clip my hair attemping to render Metallica's logo. I think that's one of the funniest things. I also think death metal is usually rather anti-war. In the tradition of War Pigs. War Ensemble, Hoards Of Chaos, Refuse/Resist, Mandatory Suicide, Now You've Got Something To Die For, etc

The Austin songwriter Daniel Johnston rejected a deal with Elektra because of Metallica. He was mentally ill and believed they were satanic. He believed he was a battler of demons and could not be on the same label. He was a great songwriter but very ill. His songs make people cry and laugh, back to back

That lovely melodic section is supposed to represent the euphoric state that you feel on the drug and then it kicks into the come down. So the song goes from the craving to do it - then the lovely feeling of doing it - followed by hard hitting reality of the hopelessness of addiction once the high is gone. It is so well composed that way and we all know which 2 members of the band made that happen. RIP Cliff and all peace to James - your collaboration was a rare event that was cut short way too soon!

The music tells the story all by itself! Opening is aggressive (the need), the center is melodic (the fix), then it wears off and the need returns..... Music genius!!!

You talked about how "thick" the guitar tone sounds, but it's not all just from the mix. Hetfield is renown for playing songs with almost all down picking, which is pretty incredible. That heavy down picking is one of the main things that gives Metallica that heaviness. Most guitarists can't down pick whole songs like that, let alone whole shows. Hetfield is pretty much the GOAT of rhythm guitarists
@RaderizDorret2 жыл бұрын
I think Hetfield also uses heavier than standard strings to get that extra punch and tone.

@malcolmgervais8457 Жыл бұрын
Hetfield is the rhythm goat for sure, but honestly there arent too many songs in their catalog that are all downpicked, he uses plenty of alternate picking as well. MOP is obviously all downpicked but you have plenty of their songs that are a mix of a few kinds of picking techniques.

From Metallica's website, March 23rd 2016 : Who would’ve ever thought that Master of Puppets, a record made by a band hovering way left of the mainstream in 1986, would be granted the honor of being added to the National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress? It happened today as Master was selected as one of the 25 new sound recordings added to the registry of works that are “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.” Whew, that’s heavy!

I think I'll be watching your reviews regularly. I love the depth you are going to with describing the moods and how it makes you feel. The more you dig into the metal world, the more you will find very thoughtful and powerful lyrics. Even heavier bands such as Slayer write deep songs about "the human condition" as they call it. Musically you will notice a big parallel between metal and orchestral music, with dynamic range and mood being woven to set the scene for the various story parts. You will find plenty of crossover styles in metal, with bands such as Dub War/Skindred for those who love Reggae in the mix, Bloodywood for those who love the taste of India, Ministry and Ramstein for those who need some techno beats in the mix, Epica and Septicflesh for those who desire symphonic sounds of opera or a big orchestra, then we have such wonders as The Diablo Swing Orchestra, who play almost all types of music and often at the same time.

Towards the end of the video, someone commented on stream: "Still don't know how they get hate, they are just a great heavy metal band." If I had to guess, (a) the Napster thing leading, in some ways, to the trouble people have with uploading reactions here on YT, or (b) the change in the band's sound from being the anthem of the outcasts to turning into "dad metal." Perhaps even a combination of the two. I can't speak on the first point, but for the second, I think shifting your sound, evolving your music as you evolve as people, is not only logical, but necessary. Metallica will always be in the Pantheon of Metal, as far as I'm concerned. I'd rather hear songs that come off as missteps, in the search of progression than hear dudes in their 60s playing stuff they did in their 20s.

Enjoying your reactions... glad your pulling up the lyrics... and as a music lover who has always listened across genres I think listening to music from different genres is a good way to appreciate other cultures and perceptions and see we are all experiening and expressing the same things through life... the situations may differ, the place or time, but the human condition is the same... enjoy your journey, lots of awesome music out there for you to discover, explore and share with others as you build your platform... New subscriber! I've been listening to a lot of Metallica over the past week due to Stranger Things, which I guess is why KZbin recommended your videos. I think you are very naturally intuitive when it comes to lyrics and I love to see people recognize just how wrong the stereotypes of Metal are. Metallica is a band I've always liked, but with so much music available I just haven't listened to them in awhile. You can skip their 90's stuff, but they came back with a vengeance with Death Magnetic. The song "All Nightmare Long" may be my favorite song by them. Moving on from Metallica, there are a number of Metal genres to dive into. I'm in particular a fan of Symphonic, Progressive, and Power metal. For Symphonic, you've got to check out Nightwish. (Lots of reactors start with Ghost Love Score.) For Progressive, there is a huge rabbit hole to go down with Dream Theater. Their song Glass Prison is long, and like Master of Puppets also about substance abuse, but it's really awesome and shows a lot of the bands potential and complexity. As for Power Metal, I'll let others make a recommendation. I have too many favorites, so it feels like I'd be trying to pick a favorite child. LOL. Keep up the great work!

Yeah i think the song its the whole process of an addiction, starts telling you all the bad thing but u decide enter to that world in the chorus we can hear the desperation from getting drugs the addiction then in the melodic part i think refers when u take the drug the “calm” u feel but slowly that feeling is changing to a more dark feeling as the music change to n start the regret… n then star the chaos the solo part its completely chaos to end up again like in the beginning showing the that cycle
