more with the Simonson's these two did more to make Marvel as great as it was in the 80's than anyone outside of Claremont, and their contributions should never be minimized. huge fan of both.

Walt Simonson turning Thor into a bullfrog is one of the standout moments in the history of my comic reading. From Thor, Fantastic Four, X-Factor, Superman and New Mutants Walt and Louise Simonson has made a impact on my life in this genre

An absolute classic Walt story for sure that Thor Frog story. Though none the less, I’ll be a pro mutant guy any and everyday. Be it Apocalypse or whoever!? No matter. I view En Sabuh Nur or Magneto is close to myself.

"the most disappointing on screen was Apocalypse" preach Louise!

She would understand that more than almost anyone else. We were all disappointed by that version of movie Apocalypse on some level, even if they enjoyed the film.

She even complained about his height. That was my first complaint. They could've CG'd his height. His costume was terrible as well.
@DaidriveCJ5 жыл бұрын
@@KTF0 I concur, Apocalypse was just too average to "normal" looking in height and physique for it to be fully recognized as the threat that most fans knew him to be.

Stuff like this makes me crave for a Marvel Comics Documentary, I'd love to hear from all the legends of the different decades!! As successful as the movies, it still saddens me that a lot of these true artist and visionaries go unrecognized or forgotten...If Beta Ray Bill ever pops up in the MCU Walt Simonson should be in the movie w/ CGI to make him look like he did in the 80s....Marvel needs to start doing stuff like that and stop giving Stan Lee all the credit and recognition...Chris Claremont deserves to be in X-men as a cameo than Stan Lee
@stonetic25155 жыл бұрын
Chris Claremont didn't invent Wolverine, but it's obvious that the character's massive success is fully due to him. Claremont turned him from a one issue throwaway villain to Marvel's single most popular character for a few decades. The same story is true with Rob Liefeld and Cable.

Loved Power Pack especially when they swapped powers with each other and anything Walt drew, I gladly bought. I never knew the details mentioned about the Mutant Massacre. That was one of the most exciting and enjoying storylines i ever read growing up. That image of Angel stuck to the wall with those harpoons in his wings are burned into my memories 4 ever. Only to see him later in a X Factor issue inside a helicopter that explodes, but then reborn. Classic stuff!!! They just dont make 'em like they use to!!👍👍👍

Thanks so much for this interview! These two are my comic book heroes. I started seriously collecting comics just as X-Factor got going. I can't tell you what a bummer it was when they left the book, and it would never reach those heights again (with the possible exception of Whilce Portacio's brief run on it). Check out the two-issue story line -- X-Factor #13-14 -- when Scott Summers goes back to Alaska to find out what happened to Madeline Pryor and encounters a resurrected Master Mold. Really good stuff.

Quick story if anyone cares to read it: my brother and I flew up to New York to attend NYCC. Half of the artists and creators refused to sign books, one specific guy would refuse to sign books or even talk to you, then lie about when he would come back to sign stuff. It was an absolute awful experience. And then, we met the Simonsons. They were the most genuine people.
@sskywarpe5 жыл бұрын
I asked Walt why he spoiled the reveal of Death's face on the cover of XFactor 24. And he laughed and said he'd never thought of it that way. He then drew Death's mask on my book and signed it. Then showed it off to Chris Claremont, laughing that he had to do an alt cover 30 years after the fact. Louise took a picture of him with his creation for their memories, laughing the whole time.

NYCC was saved. All thanks to a few "happy to be there" creators. So thank you to Chris Claremont, Larry Hama, and most importantly Walt and Louise Simonson.
@cha55 жыл бұрын
Jordan Fallow I never really had that experience myself up at the NYCC over the years, when I went to several panels with giants such as Sheldon Moldoff and Al Jaffe and Murphy Anderson And after the panel they were always happy to sign a Golden Age comic if you asked politely, Of course this was before you started having to pay $30-$50-$100 (in the case of Stan Lee) for an autographed comic.
