@creativecolours20222 жыл бұрын
That is what always impressed me.. How strong she was and she still is. If she didn't decide to retire I bet that she would be able to keep on performing easily up to her 70s.
@bustedkeaton2 жыл бұрын
Huh? There's clearly ribbons on her shoes in the very first shot. How do you think she could put her weight on a toebox if the shoe wasn't strapped to her foot?
@malenagonzalez1974 Жыл бұрын
I only wore elastics all my carrer like she does in the first shot. I think the need for ribbons is personal for everyone. I know plenty of dancers who wear only ribbons or only elastics :)

I watched her emerge in the 1980's like fireworks across my personal sky. It was Nureyev's Cinderella that I watched a "million times". I still have her old pictures from Interview Magazine. And the arresting documentary: Sylvie Guillem, An Artist at Work purchased with great expectation from the now defunct Ballet Shop in New York. How I love the ballet....
@susannagroppello7517 ай бұрын
Same... I was a dancer back then, and after seeing Cinderella for the first time, I seriously considered quitting... And had that famous picture of her in a loose long black dress in développé six heures on my wall for years... What a dancer, what a woman...

This much aerobic exercise would cause anyone to be thin. Have you never seen the olympic marathon runners? If she were anorexic her muscles would deteriorate, and she is clearly very strong. This body type is created through vigorous daily exercise, lots of lean protein, fruits, and vegetables. Perhaps something not many are familiar with.

I’ve never seen anyone comment about this, but Guillem’s insteps are so curved that when she’s en pointe, it looks like she’s on part of her her toenails, not on the ends of her toes. And I’ve seen filmed closeups of her toes, and they don’t show even the slightest blister or callous or deformity of the nails, just extreme dexterity!

@judithbooth485510 жыл бұрын
I read through all 134 comments -- WOW -- amazing -- She is great -- and was blessed with incredible genes. I read or heard that she did not have her first serious injury til she was 36 -- in many ways she is like Bolle who also seems not to get injured very often --- good, smart training, careful eating (she is no more anorexic than he is, and his bones also show) and again good genes -- and wasn't NUREYEV incredibly perceptive to have chosen both of them???
@estrellamarrone8 жыл бұрын
+judith booth Sorry Judith, I love you, but I really think that these two things are not fairly comparable. Guillem worked with Nureyev from 14 yo until 32. He was her mentor. He created her. At the end of his life he said to her that he wanted to marry her, and that she was her "life continuum" on the earth. He said, I am dying, but my art lives in you Sylvie. Their relationship was very very very very deep, important. Bolle with Nureyev? He entered in the Sala of La Scala, they talked for 4 minutes, he asked Bolle to do something at the barre and stop. He choosed him because the rule was "a boy of the 6 curse", and for Tadzio the only boy of the curse with shiny blue eyes was him (that year there was Mick Zeni and Giuseppe Conte! Not very good for Tadzio!). Stop. 4 minutes. Guillem hates Bolle and so the entire "Rudy Generation", because he is perfectly the example of what Rudy hated, exhibitionisms, media and searching for Vogue's cover, always talking about himself and no hard work and deep study (books, cinema, culture in general, all thing which enrich dance). Two different things! (Sorry for english mistakes).
@creativecolours20222 жыл бұрын
In her most recent interview she admitted that she fed herself with potato chips and coca colas. So it wasn't her diet that contributed in her super strong physic. She was born this way. Extremely strong and athletic with long limps, agility and flexibility that she improved it with her ballet training.
@susannagroppello751 Жыл бұрын
@@estrellamarrone No hard work?! I'm a former dancer, so I do know much hardest work it takes to achieve Bolle's level...do you...?
@estrellamarrone Жыл бұрын
@@susannagroppello751 I know that. With "hard work" I mean an intelligent way of doing things. Bolle is becoming a ridicoulous athlete, a ridicoulus entertainer, no culture, no intelligent study of what he does, just social, tv, etc etc. and how many things are needed to be said if we consider his shows on italian television, his use of media... Very far from some big personalities, which are real STARS, especially if we consider their intellectual and cultural value, people like Misha, Rudy, and Sylvie too (also if she has been less comunicative on these terms) and many others. Have you ever heard Baryshnikov talking? Another level. "Hard work" to me is this, not just a stupid gym chicken
@susannagroppello751 Жыл бұрын
@@estrellamarrone I do not approve Bolle's use of social media either, and I do not share part of his artistic choice, but I live in Italy and I can tell he has brought ballet closer to everyone, which I do consider a good thing. And as far as his personality is concerned, he might appear narcissistic, but he is an easygoing person, very estimated by his partners and colleagues. So I think the words you use on him are very rude and offensive, just because you don't share his choices. As far as "Misha" and "Rudy" are concerned (whom you must know very well, as I can see), yes, I heard Baryshnikov talking and I do know the cultural work and value of both of them quite well... and even if I do not share part of Nureyev's artistic choices, I would never apply such negative terms on him... And as far as their personalities are concerned...have you ever heard talking who had worked with them...? They might have been loved, they might have been hated, but it would take a lot of courage, and maybe a bit of arrogance, to call anybody of these outstanding dancers "ridiculous"... Oh...and as far as "Sylvie" is concerned...just another level, nothing for us humans. I share and admire each and every of her choices, also the one not to communicate too much...

I have danced without ribbons for class and such before. It can save a lot of pressure on your achilles tendons, but is not as safe because the ribbons provide your ankles a lot of stability. I've only done it a few times, when I can't sacrifice being on pointe but can't wear ribbons because of AT pain. that was how it was for me at least. Not sure what her reasoning was.

@AliciaDancers Ballet schools like POB pick dancers with very slender body types and work them so hard when their young and carefully control their diets. These girls are bred to be skinny, that is just how it is. It doesn't mean that she is anorexic or has an unhealthy body image. People are ignorant. Really skinny does not equal eating disorder.
