Ignore discussion of range in this video. After my reviews of the X8G, I opened up its transmitter, and found that its antenna and shield cable were improperly soldered (shorted together). I was getting poor ranges in my X8G reviews because of this. Other's should NOT have this problem (unless yours was soldered by the same person that did mine ;-)

+Quadcopter 101 Awesome Videos, you are really skilled at piloting these things! Cool to see how smooth they are capable of flying with practice. Just curious about the range (sorry if you have already answered this). After you corrected your issue, what does your range on the copter/camera look like now? Does the quad have a longer range than the camera? Sorry I JUST ordered this and also a cheaper Syma X5C to train with and don't have any experience with these machines yet. VERY excited to be getting into this activity!!

I will be honest, this drone is GREAT! I have had it for almost 7 months now and the only problem I have had with it is the cable to the camera will break easily, couldn't take a 10 ft drop from a tree crash. Just recently (like 20 mins ago) I took it up about 3-4 stories high then all of a sudden, the power cut. It fell strait down on an asphalt road. I landed directly on one of the landing skids and completely destroyed it. Also all of my prop guards broke within two weeks. I tested all of the motors after the crash and everything was functional. I am also very fortunate that in the two occurrences that it took off without control it was low to the ground and flipped over.

Re these birds and motors/jello etc. IE the X8 series I mean. One of mine wrecked two motors just all by itself, no crash damage I mean. Replaced them with stock OE parts. This example was an X8W. Got fed up with its grindings and thrashings etc so when I found by chance a reference to Night Lions motors got a set from your side of the pond (I’m in Scotland) and - what a difference. Lubricated the gearbox components with gt85 chain spray for bikes. Smooth as butter. Sounds and feels like a different machine. Didn’t replace the gear wheels, just the motors. So just ordered up a second set from the same US supplier. Unsure if the performance has changed greatly although my feeling is that it’s improved a bit. Slightly more expensive than stock parts but these would be a bargain at twice the price. Enjoying your approach to these low priced toys. I’m lucky enough to have a P4 but there’s something about these clumsy grindboxes that I like very much and they get used far more than the complicated Phantom. Which latter every time it’s flying I’m nervous of an expensive mishap! I also like the wee brother, the X5s mostly flown indoors when there’s to much wind/rain etc etc. Which - being Scotland - is LOTS! So I’m envious of your weather and wide open spaces!

Thanks for the review. The good news is, the video from this "Syma" camera is better than the video from most Syma cameras. However, I think the video isn't any better than what I can get with an 808 Keychain camera (which weighs less than 1/3 as this camera - and no where near as nice as the video from my RunCam-HD). Also very disappointing is the range. If it were only a matter of shielding, you could wrap it in aluminum foil, but I think that any "hash" (RF noise) might be coming back to the flight controller board via that USB connection. There ARE ways they could have avoided that with a properly engineered FC board, but, oh well. Gosh, I can't imagine the carnage if you got that thing into VRS and it came straight down on those big landing feet (shudder!). I wish that these RTF multi-rotor companies would put a little more time into engineering and debugging their products, rather than spitting them out about every other week. Again, Thanks, and Cheers.

Heres a little tip for you, if you want a good and very cheap stable HD camera drone, get the Syma X8C and a HD 'Bullet' motorcycle action camera. The drone is about £60 ($86) and the camera is £30 ($43) so it sums up to £90 ($129). All you have to do is attach the camera to the drone using the mount, and you instantly get super-smooth (no jello/shake) 1080p video without any modification! It even flies in high winds without any jello and shake (the setup wheigs around 130 grams)! You can get footage as good as a Phantom! (you can also attach the camera to a gimble if you want to, but try to keep the weight of the gimble and camera below 180 grams for a good flight time.)
@colinshard86659 жыл бұрын
great video, good quality, but still a little bit of jello effect. When you say "the camera is noisy" do you refer to the cable from the "go-pro" to the quad? surely there is a way to shield that from interfering with the receiver?

Quadcopter, thanks for your reply. The prop spins freely and I've only flown it over grass, not a lot of dusty dirt so suspect it does not have grits in the gears. Nice video. 1.Have you make a video stabilization on the Quad copter video? Because i can see the video resolution a little tweaked 2.What is the Quad copter video resolution? 3. What is your view? Thank you

+george kontopoulos No I did not use video stabilization. That is called "jello" effect from the quadcopter's vibrations. Video resolution is 1080p. No it does not follow the transmitter. That is available in $600+ quadcopters. X101 is actually good. Just be careful in that if you exceed its range, it will fly for 20 more seconds before descending on its own. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d4Spgp-lmNeba6M kzbin.info/www/bejne/lZ3KoaeOhbCGhq8

Hey +quadcopter 101. I bought a syma x5c-1 after watching your reviews as my first quad. thanks for the info! I love it. its a bunch of fun to fly around inside my house. I now want to move up to something to fly an action cam with. I dont want to spend more than $200usd (less is better even) and ive got my eye on these few quads: Kaideng K70c, syma x8 series, mjx x101, sky vampire or is there something ive missed. Im leaning toward the K70c but I think I should really get something with altitude hold. I dont really want to go for another in between kinda deal ie: i dont want to buy a step up from the x5c only to want another step up model in a few months. After this next quad I will be looking at buying a Phantom or Inspire. What are your thoughts on what I should buy next?
@susanrobertson93379 жыл бұрын
Quadcopter, I do so much appreciate your help and quick responses. I see that the Syma X8G is pretty big size wise. My concern is that it might be sluggish and plod along. (like my UDI U817A). Is that the case with the X8G? Does it lumber along? My Syma X5SC-1 is pretty zippy, which I prefer. I would be using the X8G for videoing as well as just flying so would like to know if it's pretty responsive. (It's hard to tell in the video).

Try some DIY shielding with some aluminium foil or thin copper for the camera,maybe that could be sufficient to get back the 200+meter range.Also,unscrew the original camera frame and see if the Cheerson CX-20 camera housing actually works with the X8G camera and mount.It looks like the CX-20 camera housing uses less plastic compared to the X8G camera frame,so it should reduce overall weight for the quad to lift.

Hey, still watching some of your great videos. Just wondered if you knew about the Syma radios being able to be switched to low power on the signal? I have issues with my X8G of the last couple of weeks and finally crashed it big time yesterday. I upgraded my antenna on the radio but the issue was the same. I discovered a mention in a forum I never saw before about when the signal display is flashing, this means the radio is in low power transmit mode. Holding up the right trim button and powering on, clears this back to high power, which on mine it did the signal meter no longer flashes. Unfortunately i cant test it just now as the Quad is damaged, i am waiting for a new body. But a heads up to all those owners, this is not well known i dont believe.
@Quadcopter1018 жыл бұрын
Never heard of it before. Holding the right trim button while powering on the transmitter changes flight control modes between mode 1 and mode 2. If you notice that the throttle is now on a different stick, hold that same button again while powering on the transmitter to change back.

Hey there! I'm going on a vacation to Austria next summer and I thought it would be cool to get some sweet video's in the mountains there. I'm a beginner on the drone thingy and I'm looking for a 100-200 euro/dollar kind of drone with good camera quality. I am considering actually to buy this one. Is this a good idea? Also if the camera is getting power from the drone I guess it only has somewhat around 5 minutes of flight time instead of the 7-9 minutes? I really love your video's they have helped me a lot, keep on going! EDIT: Can you tell the diffrence between X8 W and X8C? I'm wondering if it's an option to buy one of those instead of the X8G and replace the cam with a nice hd camera. I have no idea what the max weight of the cam is on these models. Sorry for the long question ;)

+jesser110 Here's a new release that does very well with GoPros and GoPro clones. For taking stills and the odd video with a 2 axis gimbal attached, should I go MJX X101 or Syma X8? I'm essentially looking for the most stable, most reliable and the easiest to modify

also would u recommend this quad or x8c for a good quad that has good video and good flight performance
@injection69307 жыл бұрын
hey kind sir, could you tell me which drone would be better for a first time buyer/flyer? i'm thinking either this Syma X8G or the MJX bug 3. i do have a go pro but being a first time flyer i'm a little worried i will crash it and or lose it. i am willing to fly it a bit before i take my chances. but this syma i would not have to worry as much about it. but i do want to kinda choose the one that flies better. thank you for the vids and if you can help me.
@Quadcopter1017 жыл бұрын
Neither is really appropriate for a first time flier. New fliers crash, crash hard, and crash often as they learn the hard way of what not to do. These two are just too big to withstand those crashes from their momentum. I always recommend the smaller/lighter Syma X5C for new fliers, due to its excellent stability, durability, and ease of flying. And it even has a camera too. Use it to learn the basics of flight with. Let this cheap quadcopter take the inevitable crashes and bangs of a beginner flier. And if you break it, every part on it is cheap, widely available, and easily replaceable. Later as your flying skills improve and you're not crashing as much, then consider something better/more expensive to lift your GoPro kzbin.info/www/bejne/r2qWp613YrCFoq8

Happy New Year Quadcopter101, I have a question How do you change the output in your Syma X8 G camera(the little square one look like a GoPro) to be use in a FPV system? I ask you this cause I watch your Vdeos and I seen you use your Syma Little camera and I'm doing some thing wrong cause can record vdeos but don't work with the FPV system I bought. Thank You.

do you think the cable is long enough on the camera to attach a 2d gimbal.Maybe if you removed the original foot plate? and use the syma camera.?

If you live in the USA, GearBest's US warehouse has some pretty good deals going on quadcopters for Halloween. One is the Syma X8C with free shipping for $89! Also try coupon code *anycodes* (coupon expires 12/31/2015). You should also receive the products somewhat quickly when ordering from their US warehouse. +Quadcopter 101 Hi, im thinking about getting a x8g soon but am a little concerned with the weight of it and the motors. That's a lot of stress on the brushed motors to carry that much weight. How long have you had this and have you needed to change or fix any of the motors? Also can you recommend any other quadcopter that offers this video quality and is around the same price range?
@Quadcopter1019 жыл бұрын
Nathan Eck Actually, both of my X8's are pretty dependable. But if a motor does fail, replacements are very cheap, and very easy to replace (plug-in replacement, no soldering).

+Quadcopter 101 Wait so what is the range of this quadcopter? And is it really HD quality? THANK YOU, just choosing what to get on christmas)))

+Denis Ageev The range is really somewhere between 200 to 300 meters. And yes it is really 1080p 30 fps HD, and it's pretty good as you can see in this video. Watch it in full screen.

@Quadcopter1019 жыл бұрын
Alejandro Marroquin Yes this camera works with all X8's. It's not available separately yet for upgrading. But I would expect such in the near future.

Quadcopter 101 Thanks for your answer , in your opinion witch one is better the Mobios or the x8G camera ? by the way the camera its already available for 54 USD here www.symatoystore.com/X8G-23-5MP-wide-angle-camera
@Quadcopter1019 жыл бұрын
Alejandro Marroquin I figured that they would be offering it separately. But IMO the Runcahm HD and Mobius are both prefereable. They have their own battery (you can use them anywhere) and actually weigh less than the X8G camera (with its mount). shop.runcam.com/runcam-hd/ kzbin.info/www/bejne/epy6lIZ7bqt6iLc kzbin.info/www/bejne/n2SVlK2noN6Wh68 kzbin.info/www/bejne/rWPWop2ha7-gkKs

Quadcopter 101 Thanks for your answer , i figured that the run cam is basically a copy of the Mobius but the question is witch one is better for you ?
@Quadcopter1019 жыл бұрын
Alejandro Marroquin I use the Runcam for all my aerial video, as I seem to prefer its picture over the Mobius. But I use my Mobius for all my hatcam video, as its microphone is better than the Runcam's.

+Foxy the Pirate It's a very gentle and stable flier. But it is a bit big and heavy for a beginner to learn to fly with. Beginner's crash, and crash quite often. This might break something on itself or on the ground. Recommend the following instead as your first quadcopter, as it's just as gentle a flier, but it's much lighter and safer. Once you find yourself not crashing as much anymore, then possibly reconsider the X8G. kzbin.info/www/bejne/r2qWp613YrCFoq8

Sorry I'm full of questions but do you think it would be better to wait 2 weeks for a X8G to come from a seller in China and cost only $127 or buy from Amazon and wait a few days for $146? My main concern is returning an item if it is damaged during shipping, defiantly through a China seller.
@Quadcopter1019 жыл бұрын
+Welder Nate Use Paypal as protection, and it shouldn't be an issue.
@fish4fun3549 жыл бұрын
+Quadcopter 101 Not talking about the payment. Talking about getting a damaged item. More of a hassle contacting the seller and getting a replacement if this issue were to happen.
@Quadcopter1019 жыл бұрын
Welder Nate I'm not talking about payment. I'm talking about Paypal buyer protection. If you run into a wall with your vendor, open a Paypal dispute www.paypalobjects.com/webstatic/en_AT/ua/pdf/buyerprotection.pdf
@fish4fun3549 жыл бұрын
+Quadcopter 101 Alright I'll look into that. Seller already sold the four X8g but I messaged them and he said he could sell another for the same price. $49.99 for X8G and $29.99 shipping. From China of course.
720p and 1080p are 0.9 megapixels and 2.0 megapixels. So unless this thing does still shots at 5.0MP and 8.0MP, where'd those numbers come from?

Tony Cote The Syma X8G camera is actually not too bad as seen in the video.

Quadcopter 101 but I would need the x8c controller to regain that range correct?
@Quadcopter1018 жыл бұрын
No. I had simply received a single bad controller with my X8G. The person responsible for soldering the transmitter antenna wire on my X8G transmitter must have been out to lunch that day :-) But bad range is not true for all X8G's. They should have the same range as the X8C, as they're near identical except for their color and included cameras.

+Forum18 It's camera is good as seen in this video. But its camera does not have a built-in battery or control buttons, and you can't use it other than with this quadcopter. Another option is to purchase the cheaper X8C version, remove its camera, and replace with a cheap action camera. You won't be able to control the camera from the ground, but you could set it to record before takeoff, and stop the recording after you land kzbin.info/www/bejne/g5zTZYyjmcifaZo
