Whoa !!!! Takes me back to my childhood, 4-5yrs old & up visiting my aunt Martha Holmes who lived opposite the post......remember the horrified looks on the women standing at their doors looking all at me as i ran onto the green into the middle of the riot just as the lads were retreating from a charge of soldiers in full riot gear & batons, leaving me on my own with about 10 soldiers coming at me, next thing i know is total darkness, little did i know that my aunt Martha had also took to her feet seconds after i had and on seeing the danger wrapped herself around me pleading with the soldiers not to touch me as i was just a child.....saying that thou, when she got me to the house, it was straight up the stairs were i was smacked around the backside with a drumstick of the musical kind and barred from her house for a while....i now know the scare i give her that day & the courage she had...God bless her & all the woman of the creggan....will never forget their looks that day...x
