Are you about to see a BAD CHIROPRACTOR? Chiropractic care shouldn't be hearing, "come in when you feel bad again." If your chiropractor/one you're looking into doesn't do any of these things, they probably won't give you the best care that you need. Check out what signs Dr. Janowitz says to look out for.
1. Understanding YOUR body specifically (1:20)
2. 3 ways of viewing posture (1:56)
3. Weight-bearing x-rays of entire spine (2:47)
4. Having Stages of Care (4:21)
5. Post-X Rays (4:52)
6. Maintenance AFTER Correction (5:24)
7. Variety of Techniques (6:13)
8. Physical Therapy (6:55)
9. Home Exercises (7:30)
10. Caring (7:52)

My old chiropractor never did any different techniques with me than the one he did with every person who came in. That always made me feel suspicious lol.

That doesn't exactly mean that that technique wasn't working for you, however what Dr. Janowitz said at 6:22 is important. 😄

As a chiropractor I agree with the majority of the aspects of examination and care discussed here but I do have issues with chiropractors who insist that there is only one way to approach every patient and who say that anyone who doesn't do the same as they do is a 'bad' chiropractor. I'm not necessarily opposed to full spine xrays or pre/post xrays however one needs to keep in mind that xrays are just one part of the exam procedure and may not always be required or even all that helpful. Xrays are taken to rule out serious things that need immediate intervention such as fractures, tumors, infections and various disease processes. In addition they gives a look at how much if any degenerative change (ie osteoarthritis) there may be and also give us a snap shot of the current state of posture and identify structure issues. It should be kept in mind that there generally is not necessarily a direct correlation between Xray findings and patient symptoms or mechanical/physiological dysfunction. Like other examination findings xrays supply a piece to the diagnostic puzzle. There is very little evidence that post xrays have much clinical value as it is virtually impossible to ensure the patient is in the exact same position on the pre and post xray so it is difficult to tell if there is actually a change in the spine or if its simply a positioning artifact. It is also important to note that chiropractic adjustments primarily effect joint function (as opposed to structure) which in turn influences the nervous system which in turn influences your bodies physiology. You may see positive changes in spinal curvatures due changes in muscle tension from the adjustments. There is evidence to suggest that spinal adjustments may slow the progression of arthritic degeneration and may slow or prevent the onset of arthritic degeneration in joints that have yet to show signs of degeneration but there is little or no evidence that adjustments can reverse existing degenerative change or cause a structural change to an abnormal spinal curve unless that abnormality is functional in nature (ie due to neuromuscular issues not structural issues). So what's being 'corrected' is function not structure. That may or may no cause a change in your xray findings. Its important to note that the true indicator of how effective treatment has been is how you feel, how much your functional abilities have improved, and how your overall health and vitality is as opposed to how your post xray looks. I would say if you want to find a 'good' chiropractor don't just look for a grocery list of what they are doing (because its probably slightly different patient to patient) look for chiropractors who's patients are happy with their care and stay in care or return without hesitation and who refer their friends and loved ones to the same chiropractor. Much like most truly rich people don't try to tell you how rich they are and most truly smart people don't try to tell you how smart they are most good chiropractors don't try to tell you how good they are or how bad other chiropractors are.

I'm seeing a naprapath these days, and my problem with him is the same I had with my chiropractor some years ago; they don't listen to me, and when I try to self-diagnose because something is wrong, their logic is "it's not what he suggest it is, so there is nothing wrong". What they really should think is "something is wrong, but it's not what he thinks it is". Or when I hear that something is "normal", when they don't even bother to find out why I'm bringing it up in the first place. For instance my right knee cap is making a snapping sound when I straight out my leg. But that's just the symptom, what's bothering me is that I feel there is something wrong in my knee. Every single joint in my body has probably cracked at some point, and it doesn't bother me at all. But my right knee does. What they hear when I point it out is "my knee sometimes make a sound. Is that normal?". No, that's not why I'm mentioning it. The same with my neck. All in all I'm getting frustrated. That's why I stopped seeing my chiropractor, and I will probably stop seeing my naprapath too eventually. Instead of asking me if I take a walk sometimes, he told me that I had to take a walk every day. But I'm already doing it. And that I had to move my arms, which I'm also already doing. Last time I said I had been through a hellish pain again, and it was like it went in one ear and out through the other. I also wanted him to show the sole of my shoes, so that he could see my walking pattern, but he showed zero interest in it. Finally, no chiropractor has ever taken X-rays of me.

The practice of Chiropractic x-rays has been a very touchy issue over the years I can tell you as a retired chiropractor. If there are numerous reasons as well. However one criteria which should be across-the-board for all clinicians that are seeing people in pain it is always to rule out pathologies conditions that are causing destructive processes the body like arthritis, cance,r fractures, Spinal or structural anomalies or abnormalities ,dislocations, And infections. No matter what your health care discipline is a very detailed intake interview history and evaluations key just key to determine what type of x-rays or of x-rays were even needed. Some clinicians don't have X-ray machines in their office but they have a relationship with a radiology clinic that will accept patients they need to have x-rayed. If they require x-rays they will give you a request and prescription to go over there and get those films delivered to their office to go over them with you. It's also never possible if a patient has already seen another doctor that took x-rays within the last 6 months for the same problem then those could possibly be use to decided if more different series are needed. For example suppose you just had 2X rays of the neck and you had neck pain for 5 years especially after a fall of car accident and there's no fractures or arthritis. Maybe the curve is decreased some but otherwise looks relatively normal. But you claim you have most of your pain when you've bend your head forward to look down or look backwards enough at the ceiling. You could have slippage because of loose ligaments that would only show except on motion studies. So you'd have instability or laxed or torn ligaments possibly but not causing a dislocation but a causing a weakness during movement. Again I've been retired a chiropractor for years. But those principles don't really change. I hope that helps

I haven’t had an X-Ray from my chiropractor in ~10 years, I started when I was about 8 or 9... I’m 18 now The main chiropractor used the same technique every time I saw him do an adjustment. (Neck pop, back pop and a foot height check if you say your leg hurts) They just recently got a new chiropractor that’s very good, though I think the owner of the practice is bogging her down. and since we don’t have a set chiropractor (you get an appointment and sit in a room til any one of 3 on duty chiropractors comes and adjusts you) it’s always a gamble if we’ll get a good adjustment that day also, the X ray they did was just a profile shot of my head and neck, but they do this odd roller thing that tells them something about the back and muscles. The worst part is that my mom has sciatic nerve pain, and if we get a crummy adjustment, she’ll just walk out of there without saying anything, even if she’s still in pain or hasn’t gotten any answers as to why.
@Cluffinator
@Cluffinator 4 жыл бұрын
I'd strongly recommend seeing a physical therapist or an osteopath. The roller thing you're talking about is an instrument used exclusively by chiropractors that has been proven to be utterly useless since it's supposed to measure temperature differences but also reacts to changes in pressure put on it by the user. Please refer to this video to find out if what your chiropractors have been doing for you is helpful or hurtful. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iHzbi6B6h9CEpKs

This I can vouch for. I went from run of the mill practice to actual care. The first practice I went to they did the same for everyone and didn't take x-rays. The other one I went to took his time to analyze my issue and asked me for x-rays to see what's going on. Apples and oranges. The one im with more told me majority just manipulate not adjust. Which doesn't solve the problem and anyone can crack your bones but adjusting is different.

I'm in a chiro quest right now. I have dizzy spells and a random event of vertigo , might be related to atlas. But i've seen 3 so far and they don't seem to know how to adjust that area.Although the basic adjustment made the dizzy sensation less. I still feel it daily. I will be seeing a upper cervical chiro and see how that goes.

What I am confused by is....what is the difference between Relief Care and Corrective Care. What does each one involve? Because I have been told by my chiropractor 'we like to see you regularly at first to get you out of pain'.....but as far as I am aware, from day 1 she's been doing adjustments, - cracking my spine from the back and sides. So what is relief care? - giving painkillers out? massage?

But mostly due to "Oh my last chiropractor only cost (insert crazy price here) and didn't need all these "bells a whistles" to help me" insinuating the x-rays were just a cash grab. An to where now with the online quaky crack happy chiropractors adjusting people they have NO business in touching, like someone with a recent spinal surgery or freaking *infants* whos bones haven't even all fused yet! Further chasing people away cuz some youtube quack paralyzed someone using some insane device.

Dear friend, I am a Doctor of Chiropractic in Mexico City. Your10 points are good, congratulations for that. But the things you say about X rays, physiotherapy and the different chiropractic techniques you apply shows a very old point of view about Chiropractic profession. Chiropractic profession historically ABUSED of x rays. We need x rays, but NOT complete spine X rays and NOT x rays at the end of the treatment. I can demonstrate you that you don´t need to take such amount of x rays. Chiropractors that take excessive x rays DO NOT KNOW about clinic; do not know anout diagnosis; do not know about palpation skills; do not know about surface anatomy. Even static palpation skills methodology is more reliable than x rays. I never used Gonstead, Thompson, Diversified, Flexion Distraction, Grostic, Toggle recoil, techniques, I only use ONLY ONE TECHNIQUE, a new chiropractic's technique, based on algorithms. You are practicing a very old paradigm.These Chiropractic techniques you use are obsolete! Kind regards from Mexico City!

He said for my condition I didn't need it and that there are very minor adjustments that need to happen to get my back fully aligned. I do like him however I'm wondering if I should try another chiropractor who has a weight bearing x-ray machine.

Any medical professional with basic knowledge of biomechanics knows an x-ray isn’t indicted until you’ve exhausted all other conservative treatments first. You’re likely being charged a high fee, to be exposed to unnecessary radiation, that provides no new information in 95% of cases. Chiropractic as a whole is pseudoscience and they’re experts in little more than emptying your wallet.

I have had severe daily chronic pain for 16 years. I get severe daily headaches that can develop into 2-3 day migraines. I am also diagnosed on the autism spectrum with ADHD, MDD, and (c)PTSD. The problem with me is I never know when I'm being taken advantage of because I can't pick up on those things. I see a chiropractor. The visits consist of 10 minutes of a tens unit, two minutes with the massage gun, and three to five minutes of adjustments (including two minutes of myofascial release- what I need and stress over, myofascial release). I've been begging him for months to send me workouts so I can strengthen my body. He always says yes but he never sends anything. However he is always so kind to me so I'm confused. Having severe depression and no family or friends, the kindness was good for my mental health. It lifted my spirits so much that I got blinded to the fact that I'm likely just being rushed and not helped. I don't know what to think. It's so difficult for me. Not only do I not know if I'm getting taken advantage of due to my autism, but also because of the way I look, I feel like no one takes me seriously. I'm young and "look" normal. I see all of these reviews about my chiropractor from well known people who live in the city, how he really spends his time with them and really makes them well. I'm not anyone special/ important or of high status. My pain is the same now as when I first started months ago. I get massages there as well and during massages ($85) she is always checking her phone. Yesterday when I left I swear I heard one of the ladies say something rude behind my back (I have exceptional hearing). I did clearly hear the girls laugh and one say, "Omg you are so hilarious" as I walked out. I was the only one in there. I know exactly who said what. They are a very tight knit "family" there so I know the doctor would have their backs. Its a small but a very "high tech" looking place and the staff are all women. It was said to be the best chiropractor office here. I had hope. I'm just so oblivious when it comes to knowing if I'm being treated right or not because of my stupid disabilities and being so used to being taken advantage of that I'm not used to anything else. I'm so embarrassed about what I thought I heard and it shocked me because I thought they were all so compassionate which I'm not used to. I'm sick of being treated like this everywhere I go. It's common. People are very harsh and take pride in it. I live in El Paso, TX and every chiropractor just uses a tens unit and no one here does actual treatments like other cities I've lived in unless you're someone important. Being eccentric and different isn't a good thing. I struggle with verbal communication and thick social barriers.🤦‍♀️ I'm so tired of going place to place and dealing with the same issues. I'm suicidal and I have a four year old autistic son and I am in so much pain I can't even play with him or function. I was in a serious motorcycle accident a year ago and should have died. I high sided and impacted the desert ground at 90mph, rolled 250 ft and my body was caught by a cactus bush. I broke my scapula, sustained a concussion, damaged my nerves and hand, bulging discs, etc. It took five months for my scapula to heal. I have no friends or family to top it off. That accident is what got me out of my routine of working out. The accident exacerbated my pain and now I have chronic back pain too. I've literally begged them to help me. I lost a very close friend this past July to suicide and he had a very similar condition to mine. It devastated me and I lost the ability to speak for a week. I can't stop wondering if that same fate will overtake me. I don't think anyone thinks I'm worth helping. I'm very angry, I'm depressed, I'm suicidal. I'm in extreme pain. I've been through a lot of severe trauma throughout my life. I am tired.

NOPE! none of that! 3. X-ray...was the VERY first thing they had us do was sign n paid $95 for the x-rays...right when we WALKED in for the appointment. When we provided them x-rays from the last Chiropractor. They didn't even bother to look or compare their x-rays with the one we already have. 4. After seeing the problem in the x-rays..they never bother to has her the history of how she got that problem and just jump to the come 3 times a week for 12 week plan. 5. yes they did take x-rays but it's not confirmed if it's post x-rays 6. not there yet but they did say they were going to give us some take home instructions once the process starts. 7. only 5 technique was used on her...first was the decompressing machine where she is strap over the waist laying down being pulled down to her feet. Second he use some kind of nerve double pointer stick to press over her back spine. They had her laying down on her back n sides as he adjust n press on her leg and arm. 8. NOPE! none of that! 9. They say they will give us some instructions for home but the process hasn't start yet. 10. no...we dont feel any connections with them...my mother didn't like their machine and the process. It felt more like they were trying to sell us a plan and instead help us go thru a plan.

Girl cancel that the most expensive trip I ever had was like 200 and something and that was cuz of the X-rays and other stuff. I pay 29 for each visit.

Wow mine didn’t do half that stuff. Then when I mentioned xrays he said they are not necessary unless there was some trauma there from a car accident or something drastic along those lines. He didn’t analyze my posture in detail. I even asked him if he can just look at someone (how they sit, stand walk) and know they should see a chiropractor. He said not really. I feel like he was more avoiding than anything. In and out. Who knows, maybe I’m being too analytical. What he did on the table wasn’t a lot either. Yes he took some edge off for about 5 min, but my muscle relaxers did the work.

This was very helpful. I have been in pain for 25 years I don’t know what it feels like to not be in pain my back and neck has hurt for so long it’s just a regular part of my every day living. But now I’m getting ready to start seeing a chiropractor and this helps me to know what to look for thank you so much

Living with chronic pain, sucks in these days. It's been 3 years for me, I can't imagine 25 years, my heart go's out to you. I've been through spinal injections, P.T., back surgery, and nothing has helped. I just got approved from my workers compensation (👎) for a chiropractor, but I don't get to choose, and if I refuse, I'm told that the workers compensation will stop trying to find a cure. I was on wed M.D. and read that 10% of suicides are from people in the U.S. that suffered from chronic pain. To all that suffer, and are refused medication because of the opioid crisis, my family and I, our heart go's out to you. Please let me know if the chiropractor worked for you, and any tips. Good luck, God bless, and be safe. Power to the working class💪

I hope you weren’t fleeced too much before you realised chiropractic is a scam. Save your money and invest in physical therapy.
