Somewhat out of topic here but I have been thinking of the theory "what if Atom (the entity that the children of atom worship) is another Eldritch Entity". As it was mentioned in the video here, radiation seems to be part of the Cosmic Entities here. It pretty much reminds of Atom, as the Children of Atom are worshipping radiation they seem to be pretty much immune to radiation, which is unusual for humans. Even lore-wise they seem to do well living under radiation for years, as we can see it with the Children of Atom in Far Harbour. Perhaps they might be aswell protected by a Cosmic entity? In addition, we have in Broken Steel a splinter group of Atom's Church that believes ghoulification is the next step in human evolution and the feral ghouls in the basement, don't seem to attack Mother Curie III (female priest of the splinter group), even though she isn't a ghoul, which I find to be strange. Though it is out-topic, I had to think about it again when radiation was mentioned to be related to the Cosmic Entities and their artifacts, which made me think of Atom and the Children of Atom.
@MST3Killa3 жыл бұрын
You can expand this to The Hubologists as well... Theirs is a special kind of radiation.
@trinitite46173 жыл бұрын
Then again how do you explain Oswald from the nuka world dlc? Hes a glowing ghoul and gains several magic abilities without any direct worship, maybe the Eldrich being be it atom or the other being sees Oswald as worthy?
@MST3Killa3 жыл бұрын
@@trinitite4617 I don't think 'worship' is necessary, just the radiation. Remember, Oswald is in one of the most irradiated areas apart from the Glowing Sea and his rooftop in particular has a ton of radioactive barrels. Radiation is itself a catalyst for change, it mutates matter slowly over time. To be highly irradiated means faster and more turbulent change (typically death or ghoulification). While I think a deity or even a Pantheon of sorts does exist in Fallout from what we see in the Children of Atom and Cabot House (and others in other games), I view their interaction with the world as a result of radiation, not strictly worship. Really, the worship comes after the radiation. I don't know how this relationship works... I don't know if Bethesda has actually formulated a plan as much as they've just pieced it together. But I would look at something like the Witch in Far Harbor and the visions we get there as a kind of indication that there exists different realms of reality and that radiation (somehow) bridges those realms. It allows the influences of something like the Eldrich Gods to pass into our reality, for example. My question would be how far back does this understanding really go? For example, were there Eldrich cultists in the ranks of Vault Tec or Robco? Is this what attracted Zetan aliens to us and are they involved with it? ....Tons of neat stuff to consider.
@keythealien2 жыл бұрын
They could be the same entity? Gods in mythos don't generally share bastions of expertise, having two or three radiation gods would be strange, like having three fire gods in the same pantheon. I suppose it could be a resulting factor, the radiation, rather than a sentient force, like these deities just happen to cause it when they communicate with the world or it's what actually allows them to do so. But given the series is about the effects of radiation and nuclear fallout on society, it'd make more sense if there was just a radioactive god... or it'd fit better in the story, I guess. "Sense" doesn't really mean anything in fiction. For example, this theoretical gamma god exists in the FO universe, gently nudges human civilizations towards great nuclear feats and bringing them into the common home, unlike what happened in ours since we don't have an Ug-Qualtoth, and maybe once it's strong enough with radiation a thin lead wall between every man, woman and child in the world at any given moment it even triggers the 2-hour atomic happy hour to further spread it's influence. That could explain the seeming permanence of the radiation in Fallout, too. But I don't think Uggy and Atom would be separate gods. The CoA seemed to find this deity naturally once they got enough of their synapses melted by the radiation, whereas the ones in the Point Lookout/Dunwich story were explicitly chosen and forced by the god itself. The chosen ones also all ghoulified. While we don't know if Constance did, I'd assume she was since Jaime and his father were. Maybe all ghouls were chosen but without the artifacts, Uggy can't communicate with them, and without it guiding them they go feral and decay. The Children get off scott-free because they are worshipping it, which we know is all it wants, so they get immunity, but they aren't chosen and so aren't ghoulified. But who knows. It's not like Bethesda is going to remember their Lovecraft side story in 12 years when Fallout 5 comes out. I'm pretty sure they forgot it already anyway since it's nowhere to be seen in 76, I don't think.

I know there's a weird lack of ghouls in the children of atom but considering many of their members seem to have an immunity to radiation and there being references of them occasionally worshiping glowing ghouls I've always thought that "Atom" might be either another name for Ug-Qualtoth or maybe another similar being in lore.
@DovahFett2 жыл бұрын
The Children of Atom cult you encounter in Broken Steel has a lot of ghouls among its ranks. They had a machine that projected concentrated radiation, so they turned very fast. But in general, unless you are exposed to an ungodly amount of radiation it takes a few years if not decades to become a ghoul, and the Children of Atom is a very new movement so many of its members simply haven't been exposed long enough to become ghouls.

The idea that an eldritch being protects certain people from instant death from radiation and even nuclear blasts brings out an interesting question when it comes to Moira Brown (the shop owner in Megaton from Fallout 3, who was writing the Wasteland Survival Guide). She would have been at ground zero if you set off the nuke while at Tenpenny Tower. How could she have possibly survived the blast while standing relatively right next to it? Maybe she was secretly a worshipper of Ug-Qualtoth and had helped plan the explosion (thus why she was still so chipper despite the Vault Dweller straight up telling her he set it off), or maybe she had come across and was looking after some kind of artefact that protected her, but was lost in the explosion…

I think the best part of how well Bethesda played off this storyline is how the writers managed to capture the terror of the unknown and our own natural curiosity to poke our heads into that terror just to find out what it is

I hope in the next Fallout game they utilize a plotline/story arc that is heavily Eldritch/Dunwich Horror themed and it would be amazing if it was emphasized that these Old Ones were responsible or at least played a significant hand in the Great War, perhaps even instigating it if not directly caused it

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but with all the talk of connections between Ug-Qualtoth and other deities, I feel that Fallout 76's Mothman Cultists, the Lucky Hole Mine creature, and the statue heads found buried underneath of Tanagra Town to all possibly be connected to this. There are giant statue heads found underground in both Lucky Hole Mine and Tanagra Town and its no coincidence that the Cult of the Mothman was founded out of Lucky Hole Mine, even before the war. Like Atom, it's possible that "Mothman" could be representative of another deity.

The more on-the-nose Lovecraftian themes that were included in Fallout 3, and onward, are spoopy fun and I hope that Bethesda continues these side-plots in a future, single-player Fallout game.

there's a mod for Fallout 4 called children of ug-qualtoth that adds a decent amount of stuff, but mostly amazing lore and ambiance. you find the entire area under the abandoned church in the glowing sea, and it is a very fun location to play through.

Crazy ass theory. It's obvious that the Fallout games all have some Eldritch connection. So what if Vault-Tec started this war not just to give birth to/summon their Great Old One? Either from the souls lost, or the chaos to ensue after the bombs dropped. Idk, it's kinda rough but it was literally a light bulb. A dim one but a lightbulb nonetheless.

Another interesting bit likely related to ug-qualtoth or maybe some other outer god is the ancient city the immortal archaeologist dude with the scarab crown found in the Arabian desert. It’s an obvious reference to The Nameless City so I assume they’re connected.

I always thought the “sleeping giant” that you described is just an ancient statue. The top of an old temple. The style of which is seen on the buildings around town. Seems to hint that the influence of the ancients was more widespread than first glance would show.

I appreciate you covering this, I like reading the comments for theories and there was one that really ties well into one that might be plausible. I never really understood Ug-Qualtoth as well until I started watching your videos but the Eldritch deity aspect is something that is very intriguing. If it’s a god of radiation, what influence did it have on Vault-Tec? I mean we all know how bad radiation poisoning has on people irl, other than it being it alternate universe, how do humans in Fallout have such resistance to radiation without literally falling apart? I always thought the Vault-Tec executives were power-drunk-insane from the prospect of creating a new world for themselves, but to really doom it to death? I think this deity of radiation, might see mankind as a potential permanent power source, to give Ug-Qualtoth souls and the collective power of worship in exchange for humanity to have resistance to radiation and other gifts like immortality. It’s possible, if the Children of Atom are not already ghouls, how are they still normal humans? The Apostles of the Eternal Light in Broken steel encouraged people turning into ghouls, who also don’t attack them when they do? Atom could be another face of Ug-Qualtoth, slowly gathering followers in different ways for multi-scaled sources of power to be stronger. If there are more cults in different places on the planet, then the fate of humanity may be looking pretty bleak on a Lovecraftian or even 40k level which kinda suits the narrative. Comically bleak lol

Abdullah AL Hazred is one of the most controversial case in the Arabic culture, he was a black magic magician who allegedly wrote a book on black magic and he claimed he wrote it by the tongue of the Satan. The book has vanished and the man himself vanished as well, no one knows what happened to him.
@Synonymous1013 жыл бұрын
I'm going to read into this, sounds interesting!

There is no real alhazred, lovecraft invented him as author of the necronomicon, he used that name bc he roleplayed as an arab after reading 1001 nights as child. This is all just the fantasy of hpl.

I really hope fallout 5 leans into horror elements a little more. Stuff like the Salem witchcraft museum, Dunwich Borers, the creepy mannequins, that one group stuck in the suits and gas masks, centaurs. All so interesting but such small parts of the game.

I've alway loved this story, because it seems like it could so easily be connected to Elder Scrolls. The theory that they exist in the same universe has always interested me. Could the giants be long lost dwarven technology? The book just screams daedric too. Are the Eldritch gods really just Daedra Lords who's real names have been lost to time? Could Gouls be evidence of Molag bal?
@terrynixon27583 жыл бұрын
@@felixader That's one of the biggest theories yes and technically makes more sense given pre WW2 it's supposed to be like our universe so elder Scrolls coming after does make more sense, but either way is possible I mean even in real life there's stuff we don't and maybe won't ever know about past civilizations
