It is actually for the factory pads and atmospheres provided with Synplant2 (and with the supplemental patch package), COMBINED with the availability of most if not all SP2 parameters to Bitwig's modulators that I upgraded. As these sounds provide a lot of basis for development of other pads, textures and ambiances. I did not upgrade for the Genopatch feature. And so it's nice to see your take on this aspect of Synplant2. Fun thing for people comparing the looks of SP2 to a washing machine : assign a Bitwig LFO (slow-medium speed) to the SP2 rotation parameter. If the branches are somewhat long they'll start spinning one way then the other, quickly but softly, completing the 'washing machine' allusion. More : while they are thus spinning, quickly tug on some branches for unexpected sonic variations. Happy wash cycle !

Funnily enough I was just in the middle of a jam session with Synplant 2 doing som3 ambient. It works really well with Adam Szoba's Solaris or Valhalla Shimmer as well. Very lush it is. Can hardly wait for more instruments in this line.

Did you intentionally spell “some” as “som3”? If so, why didn’t you spell “more” as “mor3”? What determines which Es are replaced with 3s? Is it all random?

@ImaplanetJupiteeeerr Ah, that was my old way of doing it. Now, I take the line input from a Moog into the grid, and while I do use a random operator, it is used to trigger a gate on a sampl3 and hold. The subsequent value is fed into a transfer curve so I can compensate for any non-lijearities (obviously). Then another sample and hold that keeps it on the heat. From there it goes back out of the grid and into a custom CLAP plugin that sends the value to a Raspberry Pi driving a relay that switches an old 50V telephone power transformer connected with some electrodes made ou5 of tinfoil attached to my feet. I mean, the idea is the same, but this way, I get a much warmer analog r3sult, at least in my own mind.

After my earlier skeptical comments, I did try the trial and what can I say, I like how quirky it is. The genopatch doesn't really do a very impressive job on the samples I tried it on, but I still like the unpredictable nature of Synplant and that it's its own thing, unlike anything else. I see you've already bought it and got the nice skin :-) The one thing that keeps me from buying atm is that it never goes on sale, so it doesn't matter when I pick it up.

It shouldn't be any surprise that other synth makers will develop their own 'genopatch' feature. Thing is, many of those currently provide a whole lot of synthesis power, way more than a 2-oscillator FM synth offers. And then, there's CLAP. Bitwig having its own (or licensed) 'genopatch' that interfaces with feature-compatible CLAP-capable synths ?

it took the dev[one person team] 10 years to develop the geno patch by training a system. Waves, Izotope, etc will all use BS shortcut garbage to create something they deem as similar, but it wont be.
@nominou6

@@RemmyMusic1If there's one field in which is was proven that with time things are getting cheaper with more features and development is constantly progressing, it's technology. What took 10 years for a person to do can take perhaps 1 year today with a team of 3, for instance 10 years ago machine learning and 'A.I.' wasn't that much of a talk public-wise. Not so anymore, neither are commercial prospects of application. What Genopatch does is no rocket science after all. I do not know about Izotope and Waves, I really do not know as I have no plugins by them so I haven't looked into them. It depends a lot on attitude. Look at Vojtech (Melda) Meluzin : some 112 plugins, many complex, others innovative, done by one guy in the course of some 10 years. It depends and, technology and technologu development are evolving quite fast.

Is there on market anything with similar capabilities /random sound creation.. I have Loom 2 but sounds created randomly are mostly too weird.. Frequency clashes.. Just not there.. Any cheaper alternative than Synplant 2?
@PolarityMusic
@PolarityMusic 8 ай бұрын
loom has way to many parameters and is also additive, so the result is always wildly random. synplant has only a few parameters and its also tweaked for that purpose, so its always something audible . tbh, i dont know anything similar.

Wouldn't it be possible to assign per note Bitwig random modulators to many important parameters of a synth, press a note and see what sound pops up ?
@SongOfItself
@SongOfItself 8 ай бұрын
I haven't warmed up to any strictly additive synth, but one thing I use for "random sound creation" is making wavetables by hand in Vital. Like a gentle, forgiving intro to additive synthesis, and I can see exactly what I'm doing.

Synplant has my favorite randomizer of any synth I've ever used. In fact, that's pretty much exclusively how I used version 1.

This synth is like Traktion's Biotek. But this one is neat and easier to use.
@nominou6
@nominou6 8 ай бұрын
It's easier to use since they added knobs to the DNA thingy interface. Biotek 1 and 2 are not that difficult to use but it needs some time spent on getting familiar with it, which is not immediately needed with a number of other powerful synths. The Biotek modulation matrix is not that well-designed IMHO.

@@aguenter so the most recent update allows you to take any sample and it recreates that sound using AI. Say for instance you have a cool sample you got with a synth patch that you like. You can grab that sample, drop it into synplant, and it creates it (using it’s own 2 FM oscillators). So now you can have that synth sound and adjust all the parameters as if you created it. It’s absolutely mind blowing what you can do.
