Jill and Claire are great characters and I hate how Capcom had been keeping them sidelined the last few years. Now with this 15 year time jump, we have even more time unaccounted for with them.
@Gruntvc3 жыл бұрын
Shame they wasted Jill, Claire, and Barry Burton & his family in the two Revelations spin off games. Jill has been MIA since RE5 and Claire last starred in Code Veronica. And then we've got the island of forgotten RE characters like: Carlos, Nicholai, the guy from RE0, Hunk, most of the cast from both Revelations games, and the canon survivor from the Outbreak games. But nah, we get Ethan Winters straight from Silent Hill or Outlast to take over. And now his super super powered daughter is being set up to take over the franchise. So many wasted characters and potential.

Ikr? Unfortunately the last few years,Capcom have been shoving Chris and Leon down our throats because they think those two are the only ones that make money. I actually used to like Leon but now I’m sick of him. Never been a Chris fan cause you can’t get more generic then Chris. He was ok at best. And yeah now we got the whole Winters family saga going on,while all the characters we’ve spent years being invested in have been left to rot in limbo. It really is insulting how Jill and Claire are reduced to spinoff games cause Capcom doesn’t think they are strong enough for a main sequel.
@Gruntvc3 жыл бұрын
@MT B, Leon peaked with RE4 and Chris peaked with RE5. It's just been downhill from there. Leon keeps simping for Ada, but gets nowhere again lol. As for Chris, his arc ended with RE5. RE6 all of a sudden made him have one of Hunk's character traits and RE7 & Village have continued this. Both Chris and Jill could've already had a happy ending in RE5, but noooo. I think what Capcom did to Jill in RE3 Remake was bad enough already. They ruined one of their best female characters with that gutted mess of a game. As for Claire, they wasted her in Revelations 2, like Barry, and in RE2 Remake they were pushing hard to ship her with Leon lmao. Never felt that way in the original RE2 for them. Claire's only real love interest was Steve from Code Veronica and he died in that game too. I'm surprised they didn't revive him like Wesker. Oh, and let's not forget: Josh and Sheva from RE5, MIA. Plus Jake Wesker and Sherry Birkin from RE6, also MIA. Or, were they retconned out by RE7 too? I dunno anymore lol. But yeah, Jill and Claire deserved better. Mia Winters is a terrible replacement. Zoe was the better female character in RE7, but man that western writer or Capcom wanted to simp hard for Mia lol. She's the real villain of RE7 too.
@mtb54313 жыл бұрын
They really could’ve done something great with Jill after RE5. Especially if they wanted to do a PTSD story. Just instead of being like Chris’ have it be actually well thought out and good. Capcom was more interested in putting Chris and Leon together in the same game though because fan service. Since Mikami left after RE4, this series is just all about pandering. There was really no one to truly root for in RE8 and I thought all the lords paled compared to the Baker family. All the hype surrounding Lady D pretty much ruined her for me and I did not find her scary at all. Mikami never intended RE to be one connected storyline and it really shows. That's how he can survive being impaled by momma milkers and drilled by Hobo Dante's crazy junkyard cyborgs. The first aid juice only works like it does because it directly feeds the mold in his body. At the end of the game, after losing his heart, we could learn the mold is beginning to feed on his body to keep him upright. As for what kills them, them being imitations of the living means they have a centralized nervous system as well. Shut that down and you die like anything. Even down to the "trees" in village being the megamycete who's death destroyed the trees connected to it. Spencer knowing about her isn't a bad retcon. The thing you need to keep in mind is out of the hundreds of people infected with the megamycete, the majority lose sanity and become lycan and even those who don't can still become at risk of becoming some ugly monster like moreau. Or become a slave to some weakness like lady D due to a blood disease. The only people transformed with no side effects are Donna, miranda,Miranda, and heisnberg out of the hundreds over 100 years. If you stretch it to negative mutations that lt you keep your sanity we get 8 total. Those are not good numbers and it's why he said he will focus on viruses. The mold is a living organisms, mutations can't be controlled (hence why a person can become so many different things off a single strain). A virus however can be controlled heavily. (Hence why everything infected by the t virus turns into the same thing for there species. ) Spencer wouldn't risk immortality over a terrible mutation. He wants a good one.he wanted the likes of wesker without the side effects. And you forgot that rose is a reincarnation of eveline who suffered from rapid aging without her serum that only the connection has. If eve aged 60plus years in 2 to 3 years, a late teen wouldn't be extreme in just 1. As for the half birthday issue at game start, there's alot of evidence that Donna was warping Ethans perception of space and time and that he was in the village the whole time with Miranda. Chris wasn't trying to drive to the village he was trying to drive away. And notes in the village imply the baby has been there for a few weeks at least, which couldn't have happened with the half birthday being a few days ago. Not to mention the first house you enter has dead variants of Donna's flowers while also housing Mia medications.

Totally, I haven't played any other RE game, but it was totally obvious that if that Spencer guy returned to the village, he would simply become a test subject for mother Miranda or one of the four lords and die horribly. Though I do think Ethan's daughter, who was supposed to live a normal life (that's literally Ethan's goal throughout the game), suddenly becoming a teenage bioweapon definitely felt like some mary sue type bs and is awkward writing.

Damn dude, your whole take on the molded Ethan "plotholes" is invalidated by RE7 itself. By RE8 he is fully molded, yes, but that's after 3 years since the thing infected and revived him. By RE7, his infection starts as normal. Notes in the lab regarding succesfull hosts are a perfect mirror to Ethan's infection: first, very strong regeneration capabilities. Second, you start seeing visions of Eveline. Third, total loss of ego and full mind control by Ev. Ethan never reached this third part, he killed the entire hivemind by disposing of Eveline, so there was nothing to control him by then. From there his infection lingered but clearly in a different way.

RE8 might be my third favorite game in the series so far regardless of its apparent flaws. The pacing, as ridiculous as it may seem, made the overall experience much more intriguing for me personally because i could never really foresee the sheer insanity that was to come next. Each section felt like a breath of fresh air and the overall playthrough kept a decent balance between action, horror and peaceful exploration where you could just take in the atmosphere without being interrupted, nothing really overstayed its welcome for me. Having the layout of the village feel like a maze whenever you skimmed through it was excellent, otherwise you'd just be running from point A to B mindlessly which would eventually grow tiresome. The game's undecisive nature can just as easily be perceived as a huge positive rather than a negative, it all boils down to the person playing it and what their hopes and expectations are. It's a solid 8.5/10 for me, but could just as easily be a 4 for someone else. Don't take my word for it or anyone else's, find out for yourself. It could either turn out excellent or mediocre, who knows? I expected it to be a huge disappointment but ended up being pleasantly surprised.

I agree with most of your points. I think the issue is that the story is so basic and there are barely any cutscenes. It works so hard to preserve its twist, which is not really much of a twist, it refuses to actually do anything before then. 19:30 I think the implication is that Spencer recognized that the Mutamycete doesn't provide an actual form of immortality. The mold essentially saves a person in the state they were in when they succumb to it, and they degenerate further and further each time they're mortally wounded until they are a degenerate monster. If they resist the change the process is even more disastrous, making the subject a sick parody of their former selves. This is why Jack and Margarite Baker became the grotesque wretches we meet in 7, while Lucas held on to most of his marbles despite already being a sadistic murderer. Miranda had essentially spent the last century frozen in postpartum depression and grief, unable to move on emotionally but continued to reiterate over and over on the same failed experiments until she was discovered by The Connections. Spencer recognized this flaw and saw it as something to improve upon; to become a Tyrant in his own right. Spencer had aspirations of becoming what the Ndipaya leaders became thanks to the Progenitor virus; a long-lived superhuman with a possible shot at real immortality. Capcom are 100% aware of the bullshit they're pulling with this series and it's because they want money from people that don't like horror games because they are scary. It's why the even stripped Re8 of not only its horror aspects but also the survival part of survival horror. It's 100% more scary when you are living ammo clip to ammo clip, not sure where your next headshot is going to come from. I actually loved re 7 and thought it was much better than re8. Re8 is more of an action game and the story feels super rushed, re7 took it back to its roots with making the game a survival horror, something the older re games were originally based on. Jack was more intimidating than lady dimitrescu, the mold was scarier than the zombies and werewolves, re7 story was better though out, had better pacing, etc.
@LeeEverett13 жыл бұрын
I've played every game since the first one and RE8 is easily one of my favorite game's in the series. It was loads of fun with interesting characters and a pretty simple story that wasn't too complex IMO. They also did a great job at capturing the atmosphere for what they were going for. I also liked that Capcom finally had the balls to kill off a main protagonist which is something they haven't done until now, and Ethan went out like a boss. In my honest opinion I truly believe people just don't like change. Every game it almost seems like you have those so called fans that say "this isn't Resident Evil" because it's something different from zombies in a mansion or zombies in Raccoon City. These toxic fans compare every game to the first 3 games due to nostalgia and think anything different from them isn't what they grew up with. You can't keep rehashing the same idea over and over, you have to evolve and do different things and I respect Capcom for doing do. They're one of the last publishers left that actually listens to their hardcore fanbase.

@David Mutchler Dunno about sheva ( I chalk it up to her staying in africa division), but wasn't rebecca like out of the frontlines and just a researcher now? She is making use of her expertise in biology ( vendetta ) to research how to deal with T virus ( and I assume the other later offshoots ). Leon at this point, should either be in his ptsd stage ( vendetta ), or in secret service protecting POTUS ( post RE4 ). Barry retired and I just chalk jill up to rehab from wesker's meddling in RE5. Heisenberg knows about chris boulder punching, so timing probably isn't that far off. Claire's only motivation was just checking on chris in RE2, and her being in movies and revelation so far are her joining NGO that combat the virus issue or just traveling like a normal civilian. I would find it hard to involve her in any installments unless she becomes main character with strong reason being there. I don't see how she will be involved with ethan, so she is out of place in terms of story. All that leaves us with only chris, who helped out ethan in 7, and still being active in fighting any bioweapons of any source. Kinda boring in a way since he is in so many RE, but it is what it is. Pity about ada being canceled though, might have tied in with other stuff like who ada is working for after 6.

One thing I didn't like about this game is that, despite trying to mimic RE4 so much, the weapons don't feel.......unique? I'm not even sure if this is the right word, but hear me out: In RE4, most of the weapons (not all of them, mind you) had exclusive upgrades that differentiated them from the others - The starting pistol, the Silver Ghost, had its critical chance increased 5x, Red9 was the strongest one, Blacktail had the highest capacity, Punisher could go through enemies, right? This doesn't happen here, each pistol is *objectively* better than the last, there is no reason for sticking with the LEMI when the 1911 is way stronger and faster, there's no reason to keep using the 1911 when the vz61 is stronger. It even extends to the shotguns, two of them are pump-action and the last one is the slowest semi-auto shotgun I've ever seen in a video game. People to this day debate about which weapons are the "best" in RE4, 16 years after release, but I don't see that happening with this game. You know it's bad when even *I* could make the three shotguns different from each other - 1897 would be the jack of all trades pump-action, and instead of having another pump-action, bring back the double-barrel from RE7 that focuses on power and range but at the cost of capacity (stupid that they took it out from this game, I loved it so much in 7), and the semi-auto would shoot really fast and hold tons of shells, but has the shortest range and is the weakest per shot. There, in less than a minute I made a selection of shotguns more distinct than what this game has, what's their excuse?

I just could not get into the first person perspective or the story/environment of RE7/Village. I think both are very cool games, but maybe they should have been their own horror franchise or something. Obviously RE7 utilizes things like limited inventory space, medicinal herbs, keys/puzzles throughout a map with backtracking, and similar survival horror mechanics including limited ammo/resources. Then The Village sort of took all that and threw a bunch of RE4's more action oriented concepts on top of it (plus the merchant/attache case.) To me, they felt like their own unique games that borrowed mechanics from Resident Evil. I had much more fun with RE2 Remake and RE4 Remake and I think it would be cool if they made a new game with the old school characters that went back to straight up zombies (with the occasional biohazard mutant stuff) instead of this new mold/supernatural/witch-esque type aesthetic that's in RE7/Village.

Things that bother me most: This game was way shorter and linear than promised. Also, this is minor but the Lycans should not be quite so dodgy and fast, especially with the really bad aiming in this game. It takes to long to aim, and guns such as the pump shawty and sniper take to long in between shots to chamber up. As for the story, they promoted the hell out of Lady Dimi, only for her to be in the game for like 40 minutes and the first serious boss fight. Some sections were meh, but Capcom hit the Beneviento household on the spot. That was pretty scary, everything else was meh. Overall on its own, the game is solid and fun for me. Never ask your doctor if you're in good health or your dentist if you brush enough because you never are and never do. They're trying to make you healthier, not happier. Village, like the disappointing RE3 Remake, comes packed with another online only focused game. And that was what Capcom focused on for RE3 Remake, nothing for single player. RE7 did get a bunch of single player focused content that ya can get with the Gold edition. But at launch back in 2017, RE7 had a season pass that told you we were getting more single player dlc. Capcom is trying to annualize RE like Call of Duty. So, they seem to be focused on multiplayer and releasing yearly new RE games now. That's not a good thing.

Very well made video, even though my opinion on the game is polar opposite I get some of your complaints. I really thought this game blended horror and action quite well, and back tracking never bothered me in RE games because it makes the world feel real to me. My major complaints are I wish there were more puzzles, and we spent more time with each boss and their zone. Their areas and encounters were all very fun but I didn’t feel like we learned as much about them as I would’ve liked. I was surprised how fast I got done with the castle for example. But as a whole I loved the game

Resident Evil 8 is a very good game but the mistakes are: 1. Prologue: it is super restricting and the Lycan survival tutorial is broken compared to RE4 survival tutorial. 2. Dimetrescu: the Castle should have been wayyy bigger and more in depth. She was an amazing boss but very short lived.. That is pretty much it. Horrible crappy tutorial prologue, and short castle segment.

Gotta disagree on Chris getting PTSD. He's a human who's been through complete hell that we couldn't even imagine. My grandpa is still torn up about the friends he lost in Vietnam now imagine losing your friends to getting ripped apart by bio weapons and monsters. Not a lot of people I know of that would get through that unscathed.

He changed because of Piers. Piers was the only thing that kept him sane in RE6 and seeing how he died pretty much screwed him over the most

They referenced boulder punching. All is forgiven.

I also don't agree with your pacing opinion simply because when you increase the difficulty, it creates controdictions to some of your points regarding the action and enemies. You also didnt even bring up the gargoyles or the 2nd version of zombies in the later part of the game.

One of Spencer’s notes to Miranda says that he just kind of left her without any explanation “I still regret never saying goodbye”. It’s more than likely he was either too ashamed or possibly even scared of her to return to ask for help.

I thought of buying the game, but then I decided a body pillow was a more worthwhile investment.
