When you tune in the triangle waves, it gets into instant Underworld synth pad territory. Took me only 25 years to figure out their trademark sound is just made of that... Haha - thanks for this entire video series. I really need that Prophet 6! :)

This is truly sage advice. I'm kind of sad you got rid of your Prophet 6, because there won't be any more of these.

I just bought the prophet 6... first polysynth. Saved up a long time for it. Love this channel. Please keep making sound design tutorials for the p6!

Cool tutorial man! I’ve just bought a p6 and I’m in love with it. I bought it thinking it could replace my ob-6 but I think I will keep both. The p6 has a big fat sound, and your programming and tips are great!

Thank you for the great explanation. Good to know, how to "spare" one of the oscillators by just using PWM on the other, to have it available for LF poly mod.

@@Sound_ology I already had the attack and the release it to 0 but I didn't see that in the patch init there is reverb activated on the effect section. Thanks for your reply love from france !

Great, great, great videos, man. Please keep it up. With so many channels reviewing and demoing brand new gear, it's really refreshing to see new videos about more classic synthesizers and sounds. I've been patching with my P6 for a few years and learning new things with your videos-really dig your tastes and philosophies. I'm curious, you speak a lot about things sounding natural or unnatural in a way that makes me assume (I realize this assumption could be incorrect) your goal is often to achieve the best-possible sounds that the P6 (and other classic poly/mono synths) were meant to create, in their traditional sense. How about in a non-traditional sense? Do you ever like to just ignore best practices and make something weird that doesn't fall into any of the classic categories of sounds (i.e. pads, stabs, leads, plucks, etc.)?

All the time!! I love to go totally free-form and just make something completely crazy, like totally unusable sci-fi effects that turn into pads or something.... That's how I figured most of this stuff out, just tons of trial and error and listening to what I like about what I made and what I don't like. I think trying to make the worst possible patch is a great exercise in learning to make good ones also, haha I still do that pretty often too. Ooh or making funny sounds, or the most annoying sound in the world....

Nice P6 videos. Was wondering if you think the Prophet 6 can get that sync lead sound on Van Halen's Why Can't This Be Love? I think an Oberheim was used on the original in 86. I've been trying on mine but I'm not that great at programming. I got the bass intro down with it on the sequencer and slowly opening the Lp filter, just can't get the lead down
@Sound_ology4 жыл бұрын
Love that song! Honestly I'm not sure. I'm temporarily separated from my Prophet so I can't give it a try, and I can't give you a sync setting off the top of my head. But my best guess at the sound would actually be to run a simple patch from your P6 through a fixed wah pedal. I think that'll get you pretty close.
@arion3164 жыл бұрын
@@Sound_ology Right on. I've got a pretty close patch on VST OP X Pro and it sounds great but wanted to try to get there on the P6. Thanks
