Synthstrom Deluge - Recording a Performance into Arranger Mode

I revisited an old track from Jamuary and finished it by recording live bass and live guitar. I recorded a performance of it into the arranger mode of the Deluge and realized an issue and a workaround I thought I'd share.
Then played the performance at the end.

Correction to record arranger you do not hold learn- just (record) and (song mode) buttons. The track sounds great!!!

You can change a blank white clip (or altered instance) to an original instance that lives in song mode by holding the clip head and turning the main encoder next the the screen. You can also take a altered white clip instance and 'push it to song mode' by holding the white clip head and pressing the song mode button. When you grab a colour from another row, it actually is activating the section colour (for any row) so that when you enter a clip it will use the clip from that section (if one exists)

Before the OLED update, I was totally uninterested in this machine because I hate those old 80's style Roland displays. But now it looks awfully tempting.

Totally get that Matthew! The menu diving was difficult and it was easy to lose track of where you were. But it’s amazing what this tiny screen can show now! I always know exactly where I am. The only thing it doesn’t show now is a visual envelope view like on the electron products. But that’s not a deal breaker in the least. If you have other questions lmk. Could always use the video ideas. 👍

Awesome work! I can't really justify a Deluge as an impulse purchase I want to be quite sure I can work with it (and perform with it) before committing to spending the money. It's not really a device that you can just go and try out at a music store either, so your insights are really valuable.

Thanks so much!! As a completely unbiased user of many synths and groove boxes and analog gear I can honestly say that after over a year of use, the Deluge is the one piece of gear I will never sell and will take to every gig I ever do. It's a powerhouse for writing, arranging, triggering and live performance. I know it's not the cheapest piece of gear in the world but it's not that bad when compared to an OP-1 or Octatrack. Especially with the OLED display now, the learning curve is faster than the Octatrack and it's just as powerful, if not more. I adore it and can use it in any capacity necessary. Just my 2 cents. ;) Also, I'm sure you have already looked but there are a ton of vids showing what it can do. I watched hours of tutorials before buying myself, ha.

I loved the deluge and bought one but couldn’t get on with it as well as I thought I might. The videos of other people creating made it look great. I waited close to a year to get my OLED upgrade and it came back yesterday. Already I am thrilled. This video is ace (though I am not at arranger mode yet). Thanks. Cheers. Lee

And yes, so many times I start something and leave it only to rediscover it later with fresh perspective. Even if I just take an element of it and not the whole thing, it's a win!

What is your workflow with recording into arranger? I mean I can't remember what clip plays what and if I want to cut out in the middle after the recording, I can't :/

I see that you have an Arturia Keystep next to your Deluge. Do you happen to know how you have to connect both so that I can play the Deluge on the Keystep? I tried that the other day but could not get a sound out.

Yep. Connect the Keystep midi out to the Deluge midi in. Select the midi channel on the Keystep with ‘Shift’ and the channel you want. Then on the Deluge hold ‘Input’ and one of the blinking audition pads while you hit one of the Keystep keys. Voila!
