A Matt johnson synthwave album would be groundbreaking. Bringing more groove to the genre :)

Definitely, I find synthwave genre boring and a very pale imitation of the 80s flavor
@autumnbrushtail Жыл бұрын

It's the player and programmer who makes any synth sing, and that's why ALL Matt's synths sound great! Great OB-6 programming.

Finally pulled the trigger and bought one. I am in heaven. This synth is everything that I’d hoped for! Completely agree with everything you said about this synth Matt. I’ve had many synths over the years, and this is right up there with the best of them! Ever since Covid these have been very hard to get in Australia. I noticed that one of the stores here finally got one so quickly grabbed it. As far as I could see it was the only available one in the country. Result! Late 70’s/Early 80’s (Kraftwerk, Bowie, Japan, Numan, Eno, etc. etc!!) is when I started down the music rabbit hole. So for me this synth is just the business!! Oh and I haven’t updated to access vintage mode yet either….

Matt, you are the man! I'm 40 years old (English guy, live in Tokyo). Got so into Jamiroquai's music again in the last few years. And by watching your channel (obsessively), I came to realize how much of your unique sound has gone into so many Jamiroquai tracks in the last 20 years. To be able to watch you explain sound design, synthesis, chord theory and songwriting on KZbin is an absolute gift. Jamiroquai is my absolute favourite band in the world since their first album came out. Love your videos. You make everything seem like it's possible for even mere mortals like me to accomplish, plus you're humble AF! I can only hope to one day become half as good as you are at playing keyboard. And the OB-6 is next on my list (just got the Polybrute, which is AMAZING). Keep these videos coming brother! Big love, Luke.

@cfs3 жыл бұрын
Yes! I made a whole down-tempo, electro-industrial song a couple weeks ago (except for drums). No "vintage" sounding patches created/used (all patches were made by me). There's no requirement that the OB-6 sound like it's from the 80s - that's the choice of the artist.
@Rgdonaire_073 жыл бұрын
@@cfs I guess… I’m in that moment after owning it for 2 years where I’ve grown a bit tired of the ob6 and might replace it with a p6. Even though you can get modern sounds on the ob6, I’ve always felt it sounds too 80s for my liking. But then, I might suck at making it work for me. I’ll have the p6 and ob6 side by side the coming days, hopefully I will keep one 😁
@ubiquitousreverser3 жыл бұрын
@@Rgdonaire_07 Every analog synth just has it’s character, you can get out there I’m sure but whether an Ob or prophet, Moog, those synths are more in that sense characteristic but it is a synth so it goes far in sonic ground but yeah it’s going to have ‘that’ ob or whatever sound to it, while something else is not as tied down, like these are kind a tuned instrument rather than a clinical synth.

The OB and the P6 are very close friends. Midichaining them and creating duo patches is like synth heaven. This way you can let them benefit from each others talent. Either as one huge sounding Synthwall in a match-patch scenario or as a coolcat duet with totaly different sounds. Both worth the money and they are really working great together. Back in the day, the Jupiter 8 was, for me at least, the ultimate synth. Nothing could touch it. Nowadays, with the advent of VST's, it never gets a look in and it's Oberheim & Prophet all the way. There's something about the sound of them that you just can't find anywhere else. It's a bit like listening to your old favourites on vinyl and cd. You can appreciate the purity and even the beauty in the latest technology, but when you need the emotion, it's back to analogue and invariably either a Prophet or an Oberheim. It's the strawberries on a vanilla ice cream. The treacle on a sponge pudding. The butter on your morning crumpet. Sheer, heart-warming, perfection!
