For you "geniuses" out there who keep commenting about the headset I show in the video: A- I was using that as an example for any kind of headset B- That headset is double-sided, but you can still wear it to where it only covers one ear only. IF YOU COMMENT ABOUT THE HEADSET IN THE VIDEO TELLING ME AS IF I DONT KNOW NOT TO RIDE DOWN THE ROAD WITH BOTH EARS COVERED, YOUR COMMENT WILL BE DELETED! Thanks!

Joke’s on Sysco, then. I’m required by DOT to wear my hearing aids while driving a truck, and they’re Bluetooth connected to my phone. The camera would just show me talking to myself.

My last employer ( a fuel distribution company) had a zero tolerance policy for cell phones BUT would call the driver. We were also tracked and every movement monitored as well. By that I mean braking , acceleration, speed, hours of service and location. This means THEY knew when we were driving or stopped. So we could NOT use the phone when driving or when loading fuel or unloading fuel. Yet they'd still call. Several years ago now I asked, if I can't use it when diving , loading or unloading When can I use it ? Also if big brother is monitoring my every move why do they call when I'm driving? Still waiting for that answer. The best part was when they decided to take away the company cell phones but would call on our personal phones. I would not pick up once I read who was calling. I told them if they were to pay at least part of my cell cost I would answer. They refused and so did I. Sure glad I'm retired now.... 40 plus years of compounding B/S was enough.

Airgas has an even stricter policy. No headset, no phone use, no eating or drinking even from a water bottle INLESS you are stopped and the vehicle is safely parked. This includes their pickup trucks and regional offices have people who watch the dash cams all the time. This is why they have a tin of turnovers and perpetually ads for drivers.

I work for medline and we are not allowed to use a cell phone at all while driving. No ear piece, no other device is allowed. If you get a phone call, u must stop the truck and put it on neutral and pull the parking brake. A driver got fired a month ago, because he called in amd joked with the supervisor about riding down the road on the phone. It just happened that it happened on that day when the network was down and they couldn't verify he was sitting still.

My sister used to do payroll for Sysco said it was one of the worst jobs she’s ever had, most dysfunctional company to work for said they’re so stuck in the past it’s ridiculous. Said most drivers were working 6 days, had people in management positions who couldn’t manage themselves let alone a company. Said one of the biggest problems was upper upper management I think she lasted just a few months before she ran from them. 😂😅

Companies should NOT be allowed to amend DOT law. If they don’t like it, then they should not be allowed an MC number, or allowed to run under any other MC number, not allowed to get insurance and therefore not allowed to be in business. You run your business and let the feds handle ALL the laws, rules, and regulations.

I worked for US Foods last year and only lasted 3 months. It wasn't for me. Their policy on hands free bluetooth devices was that we were only allowed to wear one ear bud and it HAD to be on the left ear. They wouldn't even allow a headset or ear plugs with cords. I had a headset and was more comfortable to wear it on my my right ear, but they wouldn't allow it. For me it makes sense to free up the left ear to be able to hear traffic better if the window is rolled down. That was a head scratcher for me cause I had a working headset but yet couldn't use it. I would have to buy ear plugs. I never did. I decided to only make calls when I got to my stops. Not sure if this policy was a whole company wide policy or just for the location I was at. Stupid policy, shouldn't matter which style handsfree device to use. I will say, I noticed you have a double ear headset which I could see that being an issue cause i feel one ear should be free to listen for traffic or sirens.

Waste management was the same way those dang drive cams I watched that cam like I watched the road. It was a distraction and kept me job scared . Nobody wants to lose their job unexpectedly. The used it as a way to get rid of people just to keep everyone scared. No matter what that thing will get you for something like people taking your following distance or something petty like that.

In 08 the Chatsworth train collision brought all of this about. The train engineer was texting at the time of the collision and 25 passengers died. I was a company driver then O/O for 20 years then went to work for the railroad and was a locomotive engineer in 08 when the collision occurred. The unions fought for 4 years trying to block FOWARD facing cameras and lost. The unions fought another 2 years to block INWARD facing cameras and lost. We had to turn our phones off and store them away the entire tour of duty. Later they installed signal readers to monitor if the phones were off. I retired 4 years after the inward cams were installed and the only person fired was a guy that put Vaseline on the lens as a joke I guess. We had a lot of people sent home for 6 months without pay for cellphones and a few were fired because they valued their independence more than their livelihood. The bottom line is when you get in an accident you aren’t getting a jury of 18 wheelers. You’re getting a jury that hates 18 wheelers and a jury that’s been late to work and disciplined or fired because they were blocked by the train. In the end it made us more compliant because the ultimate goal is get home and break bread for the people that rely on us .. and if the worse happens and someone is hurt or killed we will need to be able to tell ourselves that “we” did everything in our power to prevent it.

It's simple, ANY use of the phone while driving is a form of distraction wether via headset or hand held. Sysco has definately taken it too far, how else can you communicate while driving?? They give you the BOOT? That is just plain stupid 🙃 I know the food service companies are starving for drivers? I've heard about another food company that fired drivers if they made a U-turn!

i've trained drivers that come to my company from other companies and hear the horror stories about the damn cameras and what they detect a driver doing. an eye scratch would set a camera off so the driver is called into the office to review the video and only then is it determined that it was an eye scratch and not something more incriminating. we have a camera policy that is moderately lenient with a point system for various infractions such as following too close ( one second or less following distance), rolling through stop signs, speeding (>10mph over posted limit), preventable crashes. it isnt ridiculous. after so many consecutive months exceeding a certain number of points might be 4 the driver will be terminated. there are warnings leading up to this though, the driver is made aware well before it gets to that point. the driver facing camera isnt showing anything during a typical triggered event, hard brake or whatever, but can be accessed if necessary such as a crash that appears preventable which most of us find to be very reasonable. a driver i trained very recently shared a story about a friend of his who was a coworker. he hadnt had any camera activations whatsoever for years. management wanted to get him on something so they had him use a cab in which they moved the camera downward and caught him touching his phone, just a very quick innocuous tap maybe for a time check. it destroyed his trust in the company, if they're willing to do that what else are they willing to do just to "get" a driver. he left shortly after.

The bad thing is that those cameras they used to have had the lights. Now the cameras don’t have the lights so you don’t know when the camera goes off. I don’t agree with the policy because it’s overbearing but it’s not stupid. Have you ever been in a hectic traffic situation and adverse weather with a female just yapping away in your ear non-stop? I’ve knocked my Bluetooth off my head because it’s easier than interrupting the long winded monologue to say “yo can you shut up for a minute to let me concentrate?” When a person is in the car with you they will naturally go quiet when they see a crazy traffic situation but having a person on the phone they’ll be yapping away while you are rolled over into the ditch. “Hello, are you there? Are you listening to me?” No bwhich, I flew through the windshield.
