He didn't say they were, you don't think our government is above banning a red blooded, born n raised American citizen from air travel, or just snatching them up for saying they don't agree with uncle Sam. Look at Edward Snowden, hell look at the current case with Daniel Hale. Tons of government agencies slide the media inside info, it's not a big deal, IF.... that info helps the government in anyway, paints a pretty picture over an ugly wall of truth. Daniel Hale though, was accused of giving an investigative journalist truthful information in the public interest about secretive US drone warfare program. Revealing gross human rights violations, and that drones were more deadly and less accurate than the US presented publicly. In a particular 5month stretch, ninety percent of people killed were not the intended target-including an American father and his teenage son. Most of this was signed off on and escalated by Obama, but Trump of course kept it going for a while. He was charged using the Espionage Act from 100yrs ago, and only in the last 5-10yrs has there been an uptick in its use, it states that you are a full blown spy and were caught spying on/against American interest. The courts also proclaimed that any testimony by those accused under this act, and any physical evidence supporting the accused will not be allowed during the trial. So Hale took a plea deal, he'll probably get 10, but the feds wanted life. This is also a huge shot at journalists and the media, intimidating them to not use trusted government sources out of fear of arrest. Control of the media is the first thing an authoritarian dictatorship does.

You got what the song was about anyway, which touched on how the working class have always been sent to fight wars for the goals of the rich and their political lackeys.

"Can these guys still fly on a plane?" I would not be surprised to find out that they couldn't for a period of time back in late 2001. One of their music videos got banned from MTV that September because it depicted planes crashing into tall buildings. Granted, the song was written and recorded well before that and the video had been out for a while before 9/11 as well. But there was a lot of rampant fear during that time and concerns that they were somehow involved among all the other conspiracy theories that were flying around. I actually just figured out an easy way to remember when I got to see them. I just remembered that it was my first day on antidepressants which makes it around January of 2001. Was in the 2nd row right up against the stage when they played in State College. Then moved back into the mosh pit for Slipknot when they came on. Was a great night.

this is probably my favorite SOAD song. one thing about the breakdown of the song and the "still you feed us lies from the tablecloth" lyric. my interpretation is that it's a reference to how we consume media as a distraction, most often from the tablecloth, or the dinner table where we watch television (or nowadays look at our smartphones) rather than pay attention to the wars happening around the world. and even when we do pay attention to what's happening, it's lies being fed to us from the government about "oil" or whatever other lie that is being fed to us from the tablecloth. the groovy breakdown symbolizes our desire to turn our minds away from the chaos and have a "real good time". basically, SOAD are geniuses and all of their music is political and I adore them for it.

4:06 "This is a level of consciousness that's generally not seen..." This is why I listened to a lot of SOAD and Anti-Flag starting around age 12. Bought the albums on CD and the included booklets had incredible details, esp. on Anti-Flag albums. Can't forget about Rage Against the Machine either. Actually, so many artists... The more I think about it, the longer the list grows.

Since you live in Spain react to some good spainish tunes so we can hear something different and cool. Love your work.

Yeah serg is allowed to fly, it's a bit hard getting anywhere from New Zealand where he lives most of the time.

Getting to live in NZ was a huge problem for him because of this though.

I once worked in a 4 star Italian restaurant, this little old italian lady came as a guest chef from Italy. She put System of a Down on our kitchen radio and blew our minds.

It's so wild seeing this through your eyes. I fell in love with soad in highschool, but as I got older I lost my taste for nu, and kinda lost interest in metal in general, and soad were always kinda pop in the minds of the metal scene so, it just kind of lost it's allure. But being pop, they definitely had a sound that was immediately captivating, especially when you first started listening. I dunno, it's kinda cool seeing this band in old light :)

Too many people go to college already. Degrees are largely worthless. Plenty of opportunities to make a great salary without a college degree.

Not accurate. Careers are and have been moving towards tech for the last couple decades. There is nothing wrong with having a trade job but saying too many people are going to college and that more people should saturate a job market that has been dying due to automation for the last 40 years is pretty ignorant. Even more so when considering population concentrations and access to said jobs

Serj is one of the big musicians. entirely underrated by mainstream, but pretty much every Soad song is an absolute banger. Their "coming Home"-Concert in Armenia was amazing. maybe react to that video too. Had a pretty epic lightning-strike mid concert.
