Literally applied this tip to my deadlift and today and set a huge rep PR that I wasn't even gonna go for at first. I get a big breath, lock in my lats, start the pull by pushing the floor away and as soon as I break the floor I used this cue to "fuck the bar" an push my hips through! Made such a huge difference, my deadlifts felt so good and I knew I was using the right muscles. Hit 425lbs for 4 reps from a dead stop and previous best was only 2 at that weight. Thanks Coach Joe! 💪

I never understood the legpress cue or pushing the floor away cue. I tried it many times, but for me the deadlift feels nothing like it and could not even begin to feel like I was doing it. Anyone else?
@ekku19792 жыл бұрын
@@marknum545 One of the biggest feelings you have to get with that leg press analogy is something I've heard Dave call "the wedge". Only way I can describe it is the perfect angle between the bar, your torso and your legs when you go to apply leg drive. When you find it, you can just concentrate on pushing with your legs while holding your back tight and finishing the lift by bringing your hips through

This tracks with what Dave said during that quick leg workout with juji last time at elitefts.

Tons of respect for you Joe. You’re a pro; knowing when to go to others for help defines strength. Great lessons on all levels being taught here. And to Sam’s comment …my bar will never be the same. Thanks Sam 👍

Build that booty baby! Deadlift technique is probably something that you can talk to Martins about in the near future. From what I recall, martins takes a much different approach to building strength than most. Where most folks, like Sam here, is recommending many singles. Martins builds strength very slowly over a 6 month period, starting with high rep low weight tempo movements, then adding weight but still going for high reps, then slowly reducing the reps until competition day where he will do his only 1 rep max.

Damn I learned a lot with this! Gonna start building that tension at the bottom ✅

No shit “F*caked the bar” during my Deadlifts today and they get so much cleaner, a lot more power… I’ve been deadlifting for years and have never heard this command. I’ve always practiced the “push the earth away” and “proud chest” but this is pure training gold! THANK YOU!

I can't wait to try this out. I'm always nervous on deadlift day because of lower back pain. I get crazy cramps in my erectors and feel like I have lay down or something to get them to calm down between sets. And sometimes have to quit early cus it gets so bad, but I'm really hoping this can help me out and get my deadlift going again

Glutes and hamstrings tend to be ignored in a lot of physical activities, for the past couple of months I’ve been focusing most of my DL and Squats to utilize those muscles more. And boy has it helped with back pain a lot! And a lot of core work as well.

I totally agree with him. Pull all the slack out of the bar, hearing the click as the barbell contacts the plates, and even bending the bar a tad. Imagine pulling the arms into the lats TIGHT. THEN blast your feet through the floor. You may want to do some really heavy rack pulls to instill that proper upper back and lat muscle memory.

Does coming back to strongman mean endurance goals on the back burner? Or concurrent?
@agnidas58162 жыл бұрын
Ques don't help - even worse they are making you ignore the crux of it all : mobility. Do mobility work for your hamstrings, groin and ankles - then you will lift things up from the ground like a baby. It feels amazing when you get into that groove easily. There is zero tension. Your one rep max feels like nothing but you try to add a bit of weight to it and the bar doesn't even move. That is how a deadlift should feel. You can see Thor doing some of that when he was training for his 501kg lift. One of the easiest and essential ones he does is sitting on ground and just spreading your legs like for the splits. You can do one even better than Thor and resist that opening up motion a bit with your hands and do a Warton style stretch which is empirically superior.

Legs too close, toes need to go outward a bit, and your hitting it quick instead of perfect. Like he said think about the slack he said but don’t pull the slack lean back to get rid of the slack then drive the ass and get those straps off bro. He’s right f that bar lol and don’t push up pull it backwards while u drive your waist. When your toes are there no bueno. I’m 190 and I can pull 700. You’re so much stronger though. If you spread you’re feet 2 inches and put your toes an inch outward so the whole leg gets activated with ass then sit back in the starting hold to release the slack
