Fight cancer, but how? Chemotherapy kills cancer cells but also healthy cells. The use of our immune cells (T-cells) could allow a more targeted attack of cancer cells but are limited.
Genetic engineering makes it possible to transform our T-cells into an army of super-killer cells (CAR-T) which reinjected can destroy a tumor.
Clinical trials have shown that, but this is just the beginning of a new era where reprogrammed cells can become super sophisticated drugs. A medical revolution begins! André Choulika, Ph.D., is one of the founders of Cellectis and served as Chief Executive Officer since the company's inception in 1999. He is Chairman of the Board of Directors since 2011 and President of Calyxt since August 2010. From 1997 to 1999, Dr. Choulika worked as a post-doctoral fellow in the Division of Molecular Medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital, where he was one of the inventors of nuclease-based genome editing technologies and a pioneer in the analysis and use of meganucleases to modify complex genomes. After receiving his Ph.D. in molecular virology from the University of Paris VI (Pierre et Marie Curie), he completed a research fellowship in the Harvard Medical School Department of Genetics. His management training is from the HEC (Challenge +). This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. As someone diagnosed with advanced cancer I'm fascinated by the immune system and saddened that my body has broken down and for cancer to have metastasized to my liver. 😟 I've learned of other introduced virus methods to force the body to recognise the cancer cells as the threat...

It's Jeffrey, I'm using Immunotherapy to fight melanoma across my top lip. I'm working to increase my T-Cells through healthy eating and intermittent fasting. Great diagrams, it helps in my visualizations during meditations. I'm putting up videos to track my progress

A lot of great results are being seen in patients who can stay fasted for longer 24-48 hrs. Also raw vegetables and some fruits as part of a raw whole food diet.

Because they are still the only way to treat some cancers. His speech gives the impression that car-t cell therapy is the current solution for everything. It is not. It has some flaws, it doesnt work for most cancers, ir has really dangerous side effects etc. Its not a miracle. It has a long way to go.

@@pedrocastro1568 The side effects are 100% manageable, and they've developed lots of strategies to combat the 2 major side effects. Neurotoxicity and cytokine storm. They've developed cells that have an on off switch built in, so when the side effects become to much, they can turn them off, let the body recover, then turn them back on. It is a miracle. AND it has a long way to go. It's cured me of cancer. 5 years ago. I was patient #1 on a car-t trial here in Washington State. And I know a number of others cured of their cancers. There's whole forums dedicated to patients of it. Pedro, your info isn't very accurate.

@@balinoruo car-t cells with suicide genes are on early trials, far from the clinical reality. Allogenic cars too, etc. You have to respect science. Thats not an Apple product. It takes time. And why would you use car-t on a patient with DLBCL when a simple R-CHOP can cure most patients? Are you going to ditch that for the unknown? Be responsible

At the moment, only a few. Basically some forms of leukemia and some lymphomas. Its still very early to say that this will solve everything. Car-T cell has really poor outcomes for most cancers
@balinoruo
@balinoruo 4 жыл бұрын
@@pedrocastro1568 No it's not. It's being applied to lots of different things now. Including solid tumors. And even auto immune issues and virus' will be targetable. ;) Car-t cells does NOT have poor outcomes for cancers. I'm 5 years cured of it after 8 failed previous treatments. Including an auto transplant. Car-t is a miracle. It's basically a platform technology. When you want to attack something else with it, you just need a new unique target in the body on that thing. Whatever it is. The problem is that solid tumors are a much tougher cookie to crack. Strategies are being developed. Like TRUCKS. Cars that deliver medication directly to a cancer cell. Look it up.

@@balinoruo This comment is old but I thought I would point out that while CAR T cell therapy is being researched for all kinds of things it is not approved for use to treat a wide variety of cancers. I just don't want someone to see this comment and falsely think "Why didn't my doctor tell me about this almost guaranteed cure for cancer" only to have to deal with the let down later. It unfortunately is not. There are some distinct drawbacks and no, it is not anywhere near 100% effective...although it seems to be getting better and better results thanks to the hard work and dedication of those in the medical and scientific fields. I hope anyone that see's this is doing well and if you or your loved one is being challenged by this disease I hope that you can overcome it.
