They’re definitely not as loud. The biggest difference is that the trains don’t blow their horns like they do in America. It cuts down significantly on noise pollution. They don’t have to blow their horns in Japan because people don’t try to go around the gates like they do here in New York. I’ve never seen anyone do it myself but there was seven fatal crashes on the Long Island Railroad mainline in ten years before they eliminated all eight grade crossings. The last one was in February 2019. The three people in the car that was hit by not one but TWO trains going in opposite directions were all killed. The car was crushed to the point where they couldn’t identify the make or model. The platform at Westbury station was damaged to the point where they had to cut off the part that was damaged shortening the platform length from a full twelve cars to ten cars. It was an awful tragedy.

Amtrak has it's positives in the USA with the Northeast Corridor and all...but until we can in other parts of the country with High Speed Rail can stop people from going around crossing gates and be more mindful how DEADLY Trains and Automobiles can be accident wise, Japan and other countries will always be 5 steps ahead! They respect Trains. But when I look at the Electrics, I can see some of the similarities with SEPTA's (Philadelphia, PA) and such with design and such! I've got to go there one of these days! You might be interested in one of the Japanese live streams, search for this channel うめたくん as its a fairly busy crossing. The sidebar should lead you to more Japanese train live streams.

Cute, they are not heavy trains or haulers. Sleek, navigable and a little more than trams.

in Japan, they already use LED lights, while in Indonesia, we still use light bulb for the lights

Very nice video Dotaku San! Gives us a broad idea on how diverse is the rail system in your country. Just a question - all lines are state owned? Thank you and peace. Carlos - Brazil

I know this is 8 years later, but I see nobody has replied yet. JR, the largest network in Japan, is directly funded by the government. There are several tramway and private electric railways in Japan. I hope this answers your questions thoroughly. - TheCrafter1952
