Fantastic mod. The new bumper looks fantastic. I am very impressed with your ability to so calmly narrate through this installation. I might have an anxiety attack cutting the factory bumper cover! Thanks for making this video your 4Runner is really looking great.

Thanks Joey! I was a bit worried and honestly the instructions could have been better. Best thing to do is leave extra plastic and if you have to go back and trim more

Heads up: The 13 fasteners securing the radiator cover are push pins. To release use the tip of you index finger and push down on the inner portion of faster. This is the pin and you will feel it release with slight finger tip pressure. Then lift out the fastener. To install, on a hard surface push fastener down so that the pin pops up. For install place fasteners in each location, push pin down till you feel the pin lock (typically when top of pin is flush with fastener).

Hey there, I just bought the body armor for my 2016 4runner just wondering how it’s holding up. Awesome job, one of the few videos out there for this install.

Great so far, no rust or any other issues. I’ve winched with it and it’s held up good. Use this video as a reference but use the manufacturers instructions as your guide. I ended up removing a bit more plastic to get a better fitment

@ 3:33 Push down on those clips and they will release. @ 7:10 I have park sensors also. I did a front swap last year and now my wife has wrecked it again. So here I am looking at bumper upgrade videos haha.

Great video, super helpful. I just did the same install yesterday with a Trailfx lightbar. I was nervous about cutting the bumper, but used a combination of an oscillating tool and dremel and am super happy about the results. I’m not exaggerating when I say I watched your video 20 times. One quick question. Did you or do you experience any rubbing of your tire(s) on front wheel well in reverse turning sharply? I’m convinced everything was put back together properly. Thanks
@T4Rgarage Жыл бұрын
I did notice a bit of rubbing after I installed larger tires. I found out where it was rubbing and used a heat gun to mold the plastic in that spot. Later I installed even larger tires and trimmed a small piece of plastic to stop the rubbing. Do you have stock wheels and tires?
@jasonhaack Жыл бұрын
After my last service 6 weeks ago I had 265/70R17 Toyo Open Country AT 3's mounted on Toyota TRD pro wheels installed. Never experienced any rubbing before but suspect that the fender wells somehow ended up a touch closer than before. I'll have to see where they are rubbing and use a heat gun. I appreciate the advice and quick response. @@T4Rgarage

2 quick questions... 1) If I left more material on the top portion of the stock bumper after cutting it, would I be able to hide it BEHIND the Body Armor bumper instead of having the plastic edge of the stock bumper hang over the metal bumper? 2) How's the bumper holding up to the weather, any rusting? Thanks for the vid!
@T4Rgarage2 жыл бұрын
I tried this and it doesn’t really work. The top part of the bumper cover has to hang over the metal. There isn’t really anything you can tuck it under unfortunately. Tucking it under will cause the sides to pull in as well causing a poor fit. So far the bumper is holding up really well, no rust whatsoever.

This bumper only weighs 72 lbs. and it's made of steel. While it looks nice, that's not really very stout, especially for a winch. Yes, the mounting plate for the winch is 1/4" but the rest of the bumper is only 3/16" which also supports extraction points. A rule of thumb is that your bumper should weigh more than your winch.
@fabiopinzon77432 жыл бұрын
With the added weight at the front, are you planning on changing the front springs as well?

Possibly or I might add the 1/4” top plate spacer if it drops too much

@@mauizzyadventures25 Follow the written instructions over my video. I had to go back and remove more plastic. Also, using a dremel with a plastic cutting wheel will make life much easier. Just take your time and remember, you can always remove more but if you remove too much you are hooped. Good luck!

With the big tires and new bumper, does the car feel sluggish with all that weight?
@T4Rgarage2 жыл бұрын
Haven’t noticed any major change. The bumper (80lbs) replaces the factory crash bar which weighs about 40lbs so not a huge increase in weight (until I add a winch)

I got 2021 TRD ORP , planning to install body armor hiline. Does it affect the driving balance. Like the front is heavier so it tends to sway to left or right more when you move your steering wheel? Thanks
@T4Rgarage Жыл бұрын
Not that I’ve noticed. You remove the stock crash bar which is pretty heavy to begin with so it’s not a crazy weight increase. Just make sure you get a winch with synthetic rope and heavier front coils or adjustable coil-overs if you lift

Is there a place on the bumper to install a license plate? Without covering the light bar or winch
@T4Rgarage Жыл бұрын
There is not. I actually just relocated my plate to the center of the grille kind of behind and above the bull bar. I got the grille adapter mount off Amazon, it’s working good so far and doesn’t look bad
@T4Rgarage Жыл бұрын
There is a license plate mount but it would have the plate hang over the winch. You would just need to remove the plate of you wanted to use the winch which wouldn’t be too hard, two screws
