A few weeks back my buddy Dave and I were casting Low Elo Legends when we encountered this match. Castles, Rams, Sneak attacks, it had everything and I knew you needed to see it.

I love how you guys try to analyze what the plan is based on what resource he's going to. As a low ELO player, let me tell you...sometimes there is no plan. We go to resources for no reason and no plan behind it.

You hit the nail on the head. More often than not I'm just building a gold mining camp in late dark age or early Feudal age because I know I'll eventually need gold for various units/upgrades. Meanwhile T90/Dave will be over-analyzing this asking "Oh, he might be getting on gold early to fast castle for a knight rush" Nah bruh...I don't know what I'm doing. I know I just eventually need gold.

"these guys really have the mentality to keep fighting" There are two kinds of Low ELO player. The kind that surrenders as soon as they see an enemy army and the kind that doesn't surrender when they have no villagers, no TCs, a stable, a market, and are floating 56000 wood.

Makes me mad, I understand sticking it out as I have gotten wins from the clutches of defeat. But, that was because I had an economy and was holding. But, when a player has 1 tc, few villagers vs a fully imped mayan army, just quit. Honestly really annoying.

@@waleuska I'm more of a never give up type of person. Why? Because 1 time out of 50 the enemy will disconnect. That's +2% winrate. I don't advocate cheesing though, if you're down to 1 archer and you're green don't hide behind a tree or some stupid crap like that. That being said, so many games would be so much shorter if people just patrolled instead of simply moving.

Knowing that players like this are out there makes the game seem so much more approachable. I could relearn how to fast castle and some basic build orders and hover at like 1200, or I could just hop back into the game and play for fun and compete against my low elo brothers and sister at 800.

Team games and ffa are a happy in between mode. Starting inefficiencies are a little less impactful and forgiving in team games/ffa compared to 1v1

From what t90 and others have said there's been a bit of a improvement through the upper low-elo range and a fast castle and other basic builds will probably keep a player between 1000-1100 depending on other skills. I think 1200 would probably be the point a naked-fc starts getting punished now.

I feel so bad for blue. He constantly runs rings around his opponent, has way more eco for a long time and never gets attacked, yet he manages to throw simply by forgetting to make vils. The struggle is real.

It was a combination of him not focusing on his economy, probably wasting resources at the market to buy stone for castles, and him refusing to make much siege.

He probably made 20 rams to take out a single castle but sent them all in 1 and maybe 2 at a time. He would send in a single ram by itself and forget about it as if it would raze the entire town. He delayed his imp time by at least 15 minutes just because the cost of the rams when he should have gone imp and got a treb

On the small chance that this will be read by T90: It might be an interesting idea to coach one of the previous low elo legends who really ranks at the lower end (~200 ELO) in a live game against a better player (~1k), for instance by first walking the player through the dark age build and then walking them through strategies that come to mind. I'd love to see if it's possible to beat a much better player purely with a good strategy even if it is not well-executed. I liked how T90 started off LEL by focusing on things upon which the players could improve, and that way that aspect might come into play a bit more.

He would have to train them outside of a game. There is so much idle time from the person listening to you coach. They would quickly get behind, get rushed, and it would be frustrating for them in the end most likely.

Just play enough games until your ELO gets to where it should be. Then you roughly win half your games which is fine. I actually dont mind losing at Aoe2, coming from Wc3 where id get cheesed. Somehow its less angering in this game

@@iridium1911 "coming from Wc3" Getting peon rushed never gets old right? WC3/SC2 have really big rushing issues that make them basically unplayable at the casual level. Someone will look up a rush build order and then either kill you in 5 mins or resign.

Two things I learned from this match: If you only have 30 APM, don't use it on fancy micro. And if you remember to look at your economy at least once a minute, you will win on this ELO.

maybe it's just me but I felt like red had control over this game pretty much the entire time. he held for an hour with almost no significant losses, and then made one push that decimated blue's eco. blue then went yolo and red held it until the game ended

idk I knew about decay and I never _ever_ played online or looked up tutorials when I was a kid playing AoE1. It was just something I noticed happening when I saw the food count on the animal go down when no villagers were harvesting. I think it didn't occur to my young brain that there was any way to mitigate it. Decay was just a mechanic that I _knew_ happened but didn't know _how to handle._
