Why does this song make me homesick? I'm mexican and I've never set foot in Ireland.

I feel the same way. Ireland has always been home to me, but I've never even been to Europe!

Sadly I do not have the Irish, but I have heard this song in English before now. This is a beautiful sound. Maread sings like clear bell, and the gentle backing enhances the voice. Beautiful folks. For us uneducated in Irish language, thanks for the burst of English.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mairead and the others 2 years ago. There are appearing again at the North Texas Irish Festival in Dallas starting tomorrow. I am so excited. Many other great groups there. If you are close come see us this weekend.

For everyone who has asked for the lyrics and a translation of this lovely song by Mairéad, Dónal and the other talented members of the band, here you go: TÁ MO CHLEAMHNAS AIR A DHÉANAMH (My match has been made) Traditional Irish Gaelic, with lyrical (i.e., not literal) translation into English (NB / Some of the words used in this song are dialectical, and therefore do not correspond to the form used in ‘standard’ Irish) Tá mo chleamhnas air a dhéanamh i ndiugh agus i ndé 'S ní mó ná go dtaitneaghann an bhean udaí liom fhéin Ach fuígfidh mé ‘mo dhiaidh í, 's rachaidh mé leat fhéin Síos fána coillte craobhaigh A match was a-making here last night And it isn't with the girl that I love the best I'll leave her behind and I'll go along with you Down by the banks of the ocean 'Mo chodladh go h-eadarshruth, b'aite liom fhéin Leabaidh luachair a bheith faoi mo thaobh Buideal brandaidh a bheith faoi mo cheann 'S mo chailín deas óg 'bheith ar láimh liom Sleeping to milking time is my delight A bed of green rushes underneath my side A bottle of brandy underneath my head And a charming young maid in my arms Shiubhail mise thoir agus shiubhail mise thiar Shiubhail mise Chorcaigh 'gus sráideanna Bhail' Áth’ Cliath Macasamhail mo chailín ní fhaca mise riamh 'Sí 'n bhean í a d'fhág mo chroidh cráite Oh I walked east and I walked west I walked Cork and Dublin's streets An equal to my love I didn't meet She's the wee lass that's left my heart broken There is a further, fourth verse of the song, which Mairéad does not sing here, but which I’ll include for the sake of completeness: D’éirigh mé ar maidin, dhá uair roimh ‘n lá 'Gus fuair mé litir ó mo mhíle ghrádh Chuala mé an smaoilín 's an lón-dubh a rádh Gur éalaigh mo ghrádh thar sáile I got up in the morning, two hours before day And I got a letter from my true love I heard the linnet and the blackbird say That my love had crossed the ocean.

That's Molly Ungar on the bass. I'm surprised that Jay and Molly Ungar haven't been invited back to the sessions over the years. Indeed, when the show first started I thought Aly and Jay were going to the regular hosts.

All Irish music is really melancholy in some ways. I guess what I mean to say is that when Irish music is sad, it's sad!

wow...love this song, was going to share it on Facebook but I get an error message when I hit the Facebook share logo saying, "flash objects must have the 'source' and 'picture' attributes" ...so it won't share. I can put it on my web site/forum by the usual method but Facebook's a bust. anybody understand the error message and know a fix or work around?
