The US allows more fillers and food substitutions than Japan. For instance, 16 ingredients are in the US French fries now; most other big countries don't allow anymore than 3 (potatoes, salt, and frying oil). 😢

Price, quality outdated menu and restaurants are outdated in most places, they only started uograding restaurant not long time ago, when in other parts of the world self service kiosks and table service has been for years. Fights, violence, homeless and drug addicts...🙈 What else🤔🤔

I guess the burger in McDonald's Hawaii may be "drier" because it was prepared a lot earlier before it was dispensed. Sometimes fast food do it to avoid any hiccups when there are a sudden increase in foot traffic

the drink size is different and everywhere else has other special items except the U.S.A. And yes, in Hawaii, Waikiki or the North Shore side is more expensive than the other locations. For example, Liliha MCD's Egg Mcmuffin (Just the sandwich) is $4.99 and The same thing in Downtown is $6.39

It should be said that there are variations between McDonalds restaurants even within the same country. If you bought from a big and busy McDonalds in the center of a big city you're more likely to get a well managed store than otherwise.

Yes, McDonald’s in Waikiki is more expensive than our neighborhood McDonald’s. In general, we do not eat fast food. It’s just too expensive. However, we do eat fast food in Japan. It’s cheaper and tastier. We both like the teriyaki burgers and my husband likes the egg cheeseburger. I like the shrimp burger. The drinks are too small for my husband. He has to get another one. Haven’t tried Taco Bell in Japan, but we did try Burger King, KFC and Subway.

You're probably too young to remember the jingle "Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun." Nobody in my generation needs to look at a Big Mac and figure out what the ingredients are. We know it by heart.

When I used to be able to eat wheat I lived in a US McDonald's "test market" city and we got new items every 6 months or so. Fried peach pie, McPizza(really a triangle shape deep fried pepperoni hot pocket--secret's in they frying) and Nacho Sauce Fries are remembered fondly😋 Too bad they vanished and didn't make the national menu. Most US McDonald's seem to just have the same stuff every year. No special burgers. Free drink refills though:)

Good point. These two do post videos showing Japan's McD specialty items which change with the season or sometimes the holiday. They one time showed a new burger that was gone by the time my friend got there a month later. I'm in America and unless you're in a test market here, not a lot of new items in a year. New shake makes headlines lol

That was fun to watch. I don't eat fast food, maybe once or twice a year. Because I'm old I remember when they were good. McD fries were cooked in beef fat and B King really did grill the burgers. You could see smoke coming out of the roof. Taco Bell was great. You got fresh lettuce and good sauces. Now just looking at the ads it's not appealing. I've read one of the reasons the food is different is that when the fast-food companies move into a non-US country, they have to source the food locally.
@user-ub5tk4hv6r
@user-ub5tk4hv6r Күн бұрын
That's exactly right. I remember in the '70s, like today McDonald's and Burger King are often found in close proximity, and we used to get the beef suet fries at Mickey D and the burgers at BK. Also, yes Taco Bell gave me a taste for the crispy, U-shaped corn taco shell, is that even authentic Tex-Mex I think they fry the whole thing there?, a sloppy almost watery beef filling, but lovely good condiments, I particularly liked the chopped tomatoes. I was a little kid in Chicago in the 50's when McDonalds was just starting; I had never had fast food before, but I remember the smell and texture of the 15cent hamburger, I never complained if that was our dinner. I still prefer the little originals; the quarter pounder is OK, but the Big Mac, if the bread is old and the lettuce soggy, as they often are, it is a disgusting sandwich that manages to be bland and very offensive at the same time.
@melissalambert7615
@melissalambert7615 Күн бұрын
@@user-ub5tk4hv6r We did same. Fries and shakes from McD and burgers from BK. Taco Bell also had a good bowl of refried beans. When we finally got a BK in our small town my younger bro went crazy. On his birthday I go to BK. My trick is to get two regular cheeseburgers. Take the bottom bun off each and put them together. Med Dr. Pepper.

I try to fit in McDonalds once whenever I travel outside the US purely for curiosity's sake. I did try it in Tokyo. Got a cheeseburger, fries, and a croquette side they were offering covered in crispy rice. The cheeseburger was a little more uniform (neat) than the US, but I thought it had similar flavor. The fries were very comparable. The little croquettes were interesting, something they'd never sell in the US. I was also surprised they were out of Coca-Cola at the time. They have hot mustard in the US (a mild version of Chinese style mustard) because they also have honey mustard, which is one of my favorite sauces. Cool to see the fried apple pie in Hawaii! They're still baking the apple pies in Southern California, and they're not nearly as good as the old fried ones.

McDonald’s is cheaper in the UK too. Calories are far lower now Big Macs used tobe over a thousand calories, now they are 479 I think. Much less. I like their cheese it’s so cheesey. I have the Mctriple cheeseburger and large fries which is like £9. Big Mac packaging is like that in UK too, very retro. All their French fries are made the same. The patties are the same size depending on what burger it is they come frozen then straight on the flat griddle. McDonald’s wants to be the same whatever country so they try. Patties that you had in Hawaii may have been out cos you ordered late at night so they were dry. Depends when cooked. No I didn’t work there I like to know exactly what I’ve eaten.

It could be that prices in American McDonald's vary from place to place, but I'm not a hundred percent sure... I think the last time I had McDonald's I did more or less the same thing: I ate at McDonald's a few times in Japan then I ate McDonald's when I got back home. I don't remember the fries being different, or the Big Mac tasting different, but the Japanese one wasn't as much of a mess to eat. Of course, most of the McDonald's food I ate in Japan was exclusive to Japan, but I made sure to try a Japanese Big Mac and fries. I really miss the Japanese potato-bacon pie...I really want another one of those, and maybe a teriyaki mac-burger on a rice bun... That reminds me, I need to try Taco Bell myself. I quite like Taco Bell where I live, but I haven't heard much about Japanese Taco Bell. I have tried Japanese KFC, and that chicken sandwich was incredible, but I don't recall there being an equivalent item at the one near me.

I wish mainland US McD’s would bring back fried apple pies. I loved them as a kid, but haven’t had them since they changed to baked ones and they were just disappointing. :-( And then they got even smaller, seeming more like baked apple fingers/strips than pies. I wish they’d try selling the shrimp patty sandwich in the US too…if only as a ltd. “International Flavor” item.

A Big Mac in LA is around $6. I remember around 30-years ago, Carl's Jr. had a burger for $3 or $4, that they called a "Six-dollar Burger." They named it that to make fun of the idea that the more expensive restaurants, made their burgers larger and charged an exorbitant, Six-dollars. Now $6 is the norm for fast-food burgers. Condiments such as packets of ketchup, salt, and pepper are typically on a counter to the side of the restaurant. If you eat on the premises, you can pump out the ketchup into little containers. I think the burger meat in the Big Mac is similarly sized both in the US and Japan. At least that's how it looks in your vlog. Occasionally, they have deals of 20 McNuggets for $5. The sweet-and-sour, in my opinion, is the best tasting sauce.
