This was a fun video! Thank you so much for trying foods that are vegetarian/vegan. I know neither of you is vegetarian, so your going out of your way to include us is very much appreciated. You're both so kind and thoughtful! I got all excited when you said that your gelato was vegan! I can't wait to go there and try it! Also want to go to Waiola Shave Ice and Holey Grail Donuts. Everything looked so yummy! 😊🤗🍨🍩❤

LOL Satoshi's expressions for the crack seed was hilarious. I know he doesn't like li hing mui and he was brave to give it a real try. I really do think it's cause some li hing mui has licorice and maybe that one didn't have it. All the food looks so yummy! Maybe one day I'll get back to Hawaii. Mahalo!

Crack seed is like taking a meet plum seed that has been picked and they crack the seed before pickling allow the juices to pickledimside the seed where another fruit lives. This is what the older generation wanted even if it was bitter. People to this day would use the pickled dried fruits and medicine. And kids were told it was candy so it helped their sore throat. Then it became a snack. There was Friday fish and squid selling at seed stores make it the "pupu ' favorites . Some trivia for you to grow on.

Whenever I stay in any of the Hawaiian islands, I'd just go to the local market, preferably smaller ones, and they'll just have the most amazing foods like poke and boxed lunches. They're usually so much cheaper than restaurants and a lot of locals would buy the foods as well so you know it's going to be delicious!

I used to eat the Li Hing Moi all the time when I was a kid. Watching you guys eat those made me pucker. Haha! I used to just put the whole thing in my mouth. It's salty sour when you start and then goes to sweet. Then I would suck on the seed after.

sharshu bao sound delicious!!!!! Chinese roast pork is one of my favourite Chinese dishes (though here it can be a bit too fatty for my taste) and I would love to try the vegetarian one. I just got an idea to make a kinpira gobo man if I have time :) And miso honey donuts sound very interesting. Perhaps you can make a miso honey spread for a Japanese inspired toast.

I'm so jealous! It's been about 9 years since I've been to Hawaii. I lived there for about a year long time ago. In fact, my apartment was by Wailai and 10th Avenue. It was definitely not very trendy back then (1996-97), but I loved the neighborhood. I'm so glad you guys went to Waiola shave ice...its my favorite. I always get lilikoi and li hing. I also had to laugh when you guys ate the li hing mui. My mouth immediately started to water when you took a bite! I always went to the crack seed shop in Kaimuki and would get the salty dry shredded ginger. Now I'm craving it...I might have to order some online.😊

Respectfully disagree with Waiola as the best shave ice place, my favorite back in the 80s and early 90s was Aoki's on the North Shore, but by the late-90s/early-00's, it was B&S/Shimazu.

Too bad you didn't try the baked manapua from Sing Cheong. I think their baked version is better than Royal Kitchen because the bun isn't super sweet. Sounds like Pipeline is using fresh oil now to fry their malasada. Now if I can convince my wife to to there again since she was grossed out by their malasada. BTW, the owner of Pipeline used to work for Leonards. I still can't get over how much shave ice costs now. Hard to believe I used to pay 5 cents for a single flavor and 10 cents for the rainbow flavor when I was a kid.

I really hate you! You make me so sad and so homesick!😵😞😭 Manapua reminds me of elementary school. Along with ice cream trucks, there were always manapua wagons(trucks) near the borders of the schools. Manapua wagons always had lots of so ono manapua, ricecakes, almond cookies, musubi and so many kinds of Chinese crack seeds!😋 (li hing mui and lemon peel are my favs!!!) I'm so home sick now 😢😭 See what you did! Shame on you! Love you both and your channel. I'm going to curl up in a ball and cry for a few hours. Maybe 15 mins.... Plain fresh malasadas are my fav, other flavors distract from the real taste. Shaved ice with anko is wow! I miss the old Ala Moana food court. At the end, Patties Kitchen was the destination! Love next door's Chinese moon cakes and more😋😋😋😋😋 ✌😘👌💞💞💞💞💞 Still so sad and hungry...

Not trying to be a stick in the mud, but honey and honey products are NOT vegan. Vegetarian yes, but not vegan. I’m neither vegetarian nor vegan, but I just wanted to get this in there before someone more argumentative tries to make the same point.
