Loving your channel since finding it recently, and catching up on old episodes - including this one - while waiting for the next. I like how your solo keeper works. I've always been a solo player, but for the odd game with a few friends in school years and a league in my last year at school. I wrote my own rule book in those days to adapt the game a little to how I wanted to play it. My games would be 12 mins long and I estimated I got through 1,000 a season! (still with time for some Subbuteo Cricket in the summer). I'd have two 12-team divs that played home and away, plus a 22-team Div 3, which was just the teams who'd done best in the Election Tournament to Div 2. In addition, I'd play a UEFA Cup Winners Cup, FA Cup, League Cup, plus World Cup and Euros when they came round. Even had a one-off small reserve teams league for players who didn't make the 1st XI....I always liked to select team players before each game, so I knew who to attribute the goals - and cautions - to. I think I gave everything away in my 20's and perhaps did so again later to a lesser collection, and bitterly regret tossing my records of results into the recycling. But since breaking into my 50s, I've started up again and now have a few dozen teams and once more play 2 x 12-team divs, with the remainder from England's top 4 tiers playing round robin comps in four groups of six in 3 lower leagues. World Cups and Euros are also competed for once again, in what is the best game ever produced!

I just ran across your channel - I think I'm going to have to get a Subbuteo set and give this a try!

What a great idea. As a 15 year old playing solo in the 60's I naturally had this problem. The best I could come up with was to cut a groove in a block of wood and slot the wire 'keeper's handle in that, but this is miles better, well done. Love the show by the way.

I've been doing this for years! Blu-tac a coin to the bottom of a subbuteo goalkeeper, tilt it at a 45 degree angle and you are good to go.

Great idea for the goal Keeper ; you can also use a cork from a wine bottle : it work very well. Happy Flicking.

You could use the yellow shooting frame. The perforations would make it a worthwhile shooting target.

Just to keep the colour co-ordination going, keep the picture of the goalkeeper as a full shot in the same colour as the team, or failing that cartoon the keeper yourself or block colour it so at least it blends with the team colours. So for Peter Bonetti the top half would be green, part of the bottom half would be blue with two white stripes and the very bottom split into 2 white portions for the socks. If playing away lines and socks would be yellow. I must admit though I still do like acting as goalkeeper and striker. It has a sense of uncertainty, realism and involvement with both sides. Excellent little program though.

That’s fabulous. I used a small sponge but this is much better!

Brilliant stuff. I find Fimo modelling clay really good fun for making keepers. Or even Lego mini figures on a base do the job.

I just found this channel and it's awesome. I just picked up Subbuteo after many years off. I'm looking for some written rules for solo play. Any suggestions? I'm here in the U.S. Much appreciated.

I did see somebody use a method where he used a dice to determine where to place the keeper during solo play, can't for the life of me remember where I saw it tho.

I used to back the keeper figures with card ,I did a British Cup competition ,to create a handicap system was essential if Arsenal v Alloa came up ,so the Wasps keeper didn't get a backing ,but Bob Wilson did ,3-0 Gunners !

I think I used to take the shot at goal, and if it went in I'd go round the back and use the keeper. I'd try to flick the ball towards me (towards the goal) to recreate the shot. If it went in the first time but not the second it was a save. If it went in both times it was a goal. It was a shame though I discounted some amazing goals, but it was good practise for goalkeeping and kept my scores more realistically low.
