That’s a great solution to your problem Chad. Fortunately I’ve rarely run into stock that moved that much. As for the video on the table build Option #3 sounds the best to me. Seeing how you handle specific parts of their build that may be a little “tricky” or different sounds great. I always enjoy watching your solutions to specific parts dod a woodworking project.

I think the best way is to divide the video by what part of the table you are doing. 1st video can be in depth information about table legs, aprons, and stretchers. Any problems you faced and how you fixed it. 2nd video can be table top. In depth on how you made the table top, how to allow for wood movement. What options out there and explain why you went with option. How you fasten the table top to the aprons allow for wood movement. Video 3 can be wood finished. What you go with and why. What techniques problems how you fix it. What grit of sand paper you sand the wood to before you add a finished. Your very smart woodworker full of knowledge that can help out a lot of other woodworkers, including myself. By breaking up the videos will help the woodworker focus on that part of the project they are working on. They will not have to fast forward through other parts of the video, just to get to one part. Happy New Year Chad and hopefully 2021 will be better than 2020.

Keep it simple. I like the formats where you have a problem and you come up with the solution episodes. Later you can make a "deluxe" video when you complete it with closing comments. But thats just my opinion. Keep up with the "honest" videos.

as a teaching tool, i think that a video explaining each step in the process, minus the actual doing of cutting milling etc, would be of value and also help to keep the time to a minimum. this would in my opinion be far more interesting to watch as well.
@MarkMcCluney4 жыл бұрын
Hi Chad, hope you're having a good Christmas break. Whatever you make, I'll watch. The smorgasbord of interesting points sounds like the best video but takes a lot of editing time. A hour long vid may not be as silly as it sounds - the mechanical guy Mustie1 makes hour long, hour and a half all the time. His editing is minimal and he gets a lot of views. Well, it's just a thought. Thanks again mate.

Chad, I am building my niece a dress draw. It has four draws in it, they are 28.375 wide and 20 deep and 7 tall. I tried to build out pine, everyone I build they twisted. So I build out of cabinet grade plywood, that work and dress the edges with hard wood. Go with number three.

You know, as you mentioned the the 3 different filming methods I thought about the client. What would the client like to see if they wanted to watch? Do they know that parts of their project build are being filmed and posted on You Tube? Would they want to see the long or short version? I would be inclined to discuss it with them before going any further.
@jonathanhowe424 жыл бұрын
I don't mind the long form, either, but if that is a bit much (especially given your time constraints), something between a "fast" build (with voice-over) & then a "slow down" with the key points would be good. This seems like the way Jay Bates has done a number of his build videos (though the filming yourself talking about what your self on the other side of the screen is doing isn't required ;) ). Thanks for sharing how you've overcome all these obstacles. Makes me feel better about the corners I've painted myself into :) .

The long version will only appeal to the hardcores and will limit your views and exposure. I suggest doing the project in parts to maximize views and distribute content over a longer period, thus enticing more subscribers and building anticipation.

Hi chad, I know it is going to be a long video but I for one would like to go for option two. I would not care how long it is, but if it is very long why not cut it into sections, that way I get the full build and others who might not care for such a long vide would get their choice as well

Would still watch the longer one if you go with #2 , but #3 may make more sense for the others that view the channel . Or you can make the long video but broke up in parts that would allow for multiple shorter videos. Either way we will still watch and learn .
@RafaelHe2 жыл бұрын
Were your boards quarter or flat sawn? If the former, expansion would be less and your first design, frame and panel, may have worked. Remember that the panel floats within the frame to allow for expansion. This is a tried and true solution, commonly found in classic Chinese tables, no glue or nails required.
@useyourmind44054 жыл бұрын
Option 3 is the best. We've all seen people planing wood enough times. If someone doesn't know how to square boards by this point, they shouldn't be making a table. Techniques and moves that you assume we would know just skip! Chisiling is another example. Don't need to see that. Just need to see the frustrations you have so we can relate!
@danielelse39144 жыл бұрын
If the whole purpose is to make us better woodworkers, what better way than to follow every boring, bloody step? It's how we all work our own projects, and your minor missteps could save us from repeating them. Go for the hour!
