Been doing IT project management for well over 25 years and I totally understand the whole planning and budgeting process, and how it snowballs into a big project cost. You gave an excellent description of how it works, and that regardless of the specifics we need a ballpark estimate to even get the attention of all the people who might support the film. Back of napkin estimates, generated with 20% effort, and easily yield 80% accurate ballpark figures. Add a comfortable fudge factor and you're off to the races! Well done sir!

I plot out my stories and gaming adventures much the same way as you jot down '2D' boxes with arrows on your note pad except I use '2D' ovals instead....one thing though, do you sometimes get so many arrows it ends up looking like something Shelob created? Very interesting video and I am enjoying this journey very much.

Ignatius you may find that it will be an uphill battle trying to pitch a movie based on an IP that not many people have heard of. Your story is about rangers operating behind enemy lines in a fantasy setting. A prospective investor would more likely associate that with Faramir's band of rangers stationed in a hidden base in Ithilien from LotR, or the Nights Watch rangers scouting beyond the wall in the Song of Ice and Fire stories, or Robin Hood and his merry men in Sherwood Forest. You may find you are trying to hammer a square peg into a round hole here

You might want to look at the old web series like fallout and (can't think of the name of the DnD style with Felicia Day). They were really good and low budget. 10 years ago?? One more tip: if you need a lot of extras for towns or taverns or whatever - LARPers. They even have their own costumes!! My wife said she would haggle for the best motel/hotel prices. She likes that sort of thing. :))

Back into a Saturday morning. I may work during the week at the same place, but I get the Saturdays as well. At least I love my work. You just made my line of work seam easy. I don't go through what you have to go through. My usual bitching comes from the traffic manager giving me a script and saying. "This goes on the air in 15 minutes". A :60 second commercial that includes music and sound FX. Ok I say and the headphones get put on and the mixing board gets set and the recording program I use opened up. Ok lets rock this. I don't make what a movie actor gets, but at least I get paid. I have some voice acting in the past. Once again. I hope this all works out for you. If needed I will lend assistance.

Ok. That was terrifying. And earlier, when I said I was making a Battletech movie in my basement; no, I was wrong. Completely wrong. My mate and I, with a camera, green screen and some lighting are in NO WAY making a movie. Well, I've gone and purchased Silver Bayonet and the Rangers RPG books. So you are a good salesperson. And you can tell a good story. If you are looking for filler content, any time in the military would do. I loved my four year stint. All the best.

I think everyone, or at least a lot of us have wondered how a movie is actually made. Like, from the ''I have an idea" stage to putting people in the theater seats. Honestly, some of the stuff you mentioned here never crossed my mind. Really seems like a lot of work, but, for what's it worth, I think everyone here believes in you. So, to borrow your words and slightly change them, go make that movie!

Well, as you mentioned, I would love to see this movie, being a fan of fantasy but if it doesn't happen, we made plenty of "backyard" movies as kids and they cost A LOT LESS to make... so just know, you have plenty of KZbin fans who would be willing to help shoot this film... however the production quality would be sus of course 😂... but just keep that in your back pocket!

@robot7759 I might make a video to discuss this from my perspective, I 100% believe there will be “watchable” AI-generated content sooner than we think, but, well, I have thoughts too verbose to get into here. AI and CG are undoubtedly going to be part of the workflow for this project, but replacing actors and locations are not actionable for some very specific reasons. But it’s not an outright crazy suggestion lol. 🍻🏴☠️
