TAC Vanes part 1

I’m running the 2.75 TAC right 3degree helical. The vanes were hard to get to stick but once they were set they were good to go. I found they stuck better with a wrap than bare shaft. Supper quiet. Hard vane that reforms when heat is applied.

Been running them for a season and they have done great. Haven’t had any issues with them sticking to carbon but aluminum not so well. I have done some experiments with noise and these as well as the heat vane we’re by far the quietest. Overall the Tac is my favorite hunting and 3D vane. Indoor I run the aae hybrid 26 and that has done quite well.

I jumped in the pool and bought the 2.75" Drivers last winter. I've got them on my 3D (X Cutters) and hunting (5mm Axis) arrows, all in left helical. Found it just like you have, I use the primer pen, use my Bitz and I really put the pressure on them for 10 sec when attaching them. I do use a wrap on my 3D shafts though, several of us have been doing that to make it easier to repair when you get hit by another competitor. Nothing but positive so far.

Love the tac vanes for longer range! In all honesty they do impact higher than other vanes. I understand that they are lighter than other vanes but I’m a firm believer that the stiffness of the vane maintains the energy better than a softer vane. Even at shorter (hunting) ranges with broadheads I believe it corrects any imperfection faster than a softer vane.

I’m running the TAC driver 2.0 in 4 fletch with slight left offset on VAP 300’s. Primer pen then TAC glue and all sticking well. Running a 4” florescent pink Onestringer wrap and white TAC driver vanes.

I’ve been shooting the TAC vanes for a couple years now. The Driver 2.75s usually & occasionally 2.25s. I have zero complaints with them & think they are super stout 👍🏻

If I ever have an issue with one fletching, I don’t strip them all off. I put the arrow in the bitz and index it until my clamp goes onto an existing vane perfectly, then turn it and re fletch. Saves a good deal of time and money!

Just ordered these and im hoping without a wrap on my VAP SS these will be okay and hoping a 3 fletch left helical 2.25” driver is enough to stabalize the smaller tooth of the arrow heads, or ill go with the 3 blade grim reaper hades head. Wanted a solid head, switching back to fixed this year. If you have not….try Bob Smith Industries glue. The pink “Maxi-Cure” label. This glue is insaneee and its the same type TAC brand recommend but an overall insane adhesion and a little thicker too

I shot VAP SS last season with 4x 2.25” left helical. They flew great! I’m sure 3 would do well also with a fixed head. You will just have to test them! Best of luck!

@@Orr_s I’ve gone back to a .204 shaft due to all of the component options. Running a RIP TKO 300 w/ Swhacker #269 125 gr, same vane set up, and a Nockturnal. Still considering testing out a Halo nock as well.

@@FourFletchArchery still 4 fletch with the tac 2.25”? Im waiting on the Halo nocks to try out but the biggest gripe with a 4mm/ .166 is the lighted nocks tend to be pretty weak and cause some tuning/flight issues. And especially with wanting to go back to fixed heads thats important and could cause issues. I have 60 grains worth of ethics archery components and sleeve on my Vap SS now and they are very strong upfront so far

I don't understand why TAC and Flex Fletch which are very similar can't just widen the based to add more vane to bite down on the arrow and help it adhere. Both vanes are great but why not attack the root problem of adhering. Even in 3d you see pro's using a wrap to get them to stay.

I use a wrap for visibility, and I don't think they help with adhesion at all. I use flex fletch, TAC, and a few other vanes.

I use flex fletch silent knight sk2 x4 fletch. with a zing primer pen. No wrap. On easton axis 5mm Have had no issues. I see your point but Personally i’d rather see them stay the same to keep the weight down.

Have you hear the claims by some of the pro shooters that use these that say they make you pick up speed due to the fact that the vanes do not bend when shot?

I have heard this. I suspected marketing ploy but I have not shot the TAC vanes enough yet to have any kind of real world opinion or testing on the matter. Might be something to consider for my follow up! Thanks for the comment! 👊🏽

Tac vanes are some of the worst vanes I've ever used. Tried 3 different batches and had similar issues with all of them. They look cool though, so there's that...

@@FourFletchArchery In addition to the common adhesion problems(yes I used their primer), I had several vanes just break. Yeah, that's not a typo...they literally broke off at the base on impact with the target. Not by being hit with other arrows as I don't shoot groups with those arrows, just the "shock" from hitting the target I guess. Also had several seemingly randomly deform from just sitting in my arrows rack. Also had a few that were noticeably undersized. The only positive thing about them for me is aesthetics. Imo they're way over-hyped and overpriced for what they are. Good luck, I hope you don't have the same issues I did.

@@quintonb9870 that's crazy to hear. I've shot mine through a horse stall mat, multiple targets without vanes falling off. Hell, I've had my arrow explode and the only part I could find was the portion of the arrow with my vanes still on.

If you’re having issues with vane adhesion, I can assure you it’s user error. Follow the instructions, they stick better than any vane I’ve ever used.
