I don't get why you are paranoid about where you place your tachometer. You said you don't want it to look too obnoxious or too rice but at the same time you are driving with a race net and full race style livery.. The exterior style of the Civic definitely suggests that you want a race car look so I'm sure nobody would be critical of a gauge placed somewhere else on the dashboard.. Personally I'd have placed it to your right in the middle of the dash as your shifting hand is on that side and it just seems logical.. I don't understand blocking existing gauges..... I know it's an expensive one but the best way to make a car go fast without adding BHP is to upgrade the tyres. No matter what form of motor racing you watch the tyres are always the main factor.

I bought a cheap chinese LED shift light which I plan to install into on of the warning lights in the gauge cluster. But I have a CRX cluster in mine, so it already has a tach.

Hey, if u want something a little bit more durable and professional you might want to buy a Bosch Sport II tachometer. These dont stutter (as far is i know) and arent that expensive about 33 dollar. (o and they also look classy/stock)

On this chassis a D16A9 swap is more difficult than a B16 or B18 swap. For the B-Series you at least can buy some swapmounts.

The older "prototype" version of the DOHC D16 (ZC / ZC1 / D16A1 aka. Browntop) will bolt streight in. It's not the A9, but makes nearly the same power.
