This is exactly why I like to use only my vintage reels that are 50 years old and work perfectly in saltwater. They take a great deal of tender loving care but rarely have they given me problem. They are not refined by any means but they always work particularly after I totally restore them. Great video as always!. - Chris

I have a Fuego 2500XH that has been great on specks and reds up to 36" or so. I used a little grease on the inside to help seal it up, like I did with my BG 2500. On the larger reds you can feel a little flex, but it's not that significant IMO. The BG is certainly stiffer, my Stradic Ci4+ 3000FA is a little stiffer, but very similar feel. I'd have a hard time distinguishing the Ci4+ and the Fuego in the dark. You can buy 2 Fuego's and spool them with braid for less than the Ci4+ alone. Currently have a Spinfisher VI 2500 on the way, kinda thinking it will be a contender. Especially since I do a lot of wade fishing.

Excellent video!!! Very helpful, informative, and educational. I’m not so afraid of trying to perform maintenance on my spinning reels now. I’ve been fishing bass tournaments for a few years and was looking at upgrading my spinning reels. I don’t have tons of money, so I can’t go too expensive. So I decided to check out reviews between Shimano and Diawa because popular opinion is that they are the best. I looked at comparisons of Nasci/ Fuego and Sedona/ Exceler. I currently have a couple Okuma reels, one of them is about 15 years old and the other about 10. I have not treated them very well and they both still work great. After getting to the end of this video and hearing the comments about the Epixor I’m reconsidering my purchase. I have no reason to be loyal to any one brand over another, but if I can save some money and still end up with good quality reels then I’ll stick with Okuma. I’m not fishing salt water and catching tarpon, I’m going after 3 to 4 lb smallies on Lake Saint Clair. If that Epixor lasts half as long for twice the price of my $30 Stratus from Dick’s Sporting Goods it’s worth it! Thanks again for such a helpful video👍🏼

I know I'm late to the party and that you most likely found out of it by now, but for anyone looking at this down the line: 1) changing the shims ain't brain surgery, I'm no fine mechanics guy, and even I managed to fix my Fuego's shims, so you can too! Just be REALLY careful and take your time when working on the small rubber washer!!! It isn't quite as flimsy as it looks, but it is probably close to... 2) you know if you need to add or subtract a shim by how the line lay. If it is far back you need to remove (the spool going further back, allowing more line going in the front), and opposite; if the line is bulking up in the front, you add a shim to get the spool further up the shaft to get more line in the back. The latter was the case on my 2000 Fuego, and from what I've seen, it is the most common case on the Fuego. And yes: it absolutely solves the problem. My reel will probably work like a charm from now on, it just really jaded my opinion of it that I needed to do it at all.

Hey TA... Those hex handles just want to get a little closer to circular instead--they get circle envy--call it circumcision then? Moving on! The tight Okuma: I'm thinking, a slightly bent shaft; or does the rotor swing freely without the main-gear in tow; is there a washer under the shaft of the main gear shimming in to close for the pinion; is the pinion set squarely through with the rotor cup; oscillation gear axis out of round? I'm sure you're beyond this but you can try running a reel dry and "feeling" for where the friction is coming from. Try this: take out the main gear/handle stuff and rotate the rotor by itself. Slow? Yes? Then take out the shaft. Still slow? It's the bearings. But if you put the shaft in and it's fast, even as you pull up n down, it's the pressure of the gear when screwed down. Last thing I do, is look closely for wear that looks fresh n bright. That's "wear" where it's coming from. Chances are, there's a washer shimming pressure onto the main/pinion gear engroovement (I made that up just for you.) . I love all this stuff, so, clearly, I had to go on way too long. :) Good working TA. I like what you're doing. It actaully makes sense. Imagine!

I use fuego lt 5000cxg for shore jigging and plastic lures, some time i also throw poppers up to 40grms. Until 1day while jigging i hooked a queen fish about 2lbs when i reel it in the gear stacked. It feels like the gear on the shaft and the gear on the oversized gear was dislodged. I use this reel for about 6 mos, 4hrs every week end. When i finally get it work there is already clicking aound every time the spool goes down. It is so frustrating that it only last a few months. What are your thoughts on spooling line at tackle shops vs on your own? Here in Florida it’s common to spool big reels at tackle shops. They claim they can fit more line on the reel with better line lay.
@TackleAdvisors6 жыл бұрын
For offshore stuff especially hollow core...machine spooling is the only way to compress the braid flat. Hollow core has an advantage that under heavy pressure wound around a drum *spool. It flattens and you can fit more. It will spring open again when not under pressure. Those spooling systems cost 7500$ + when winding on most reels I home spool....i put a bolt in a drill chuck...have a big spring that compresses the spool. and I'll lay a weight on the and to push it down into the floor...it adds a couple pounds of pressure. which is required for even line lay with any braid.......low tension spooling the line doesn't lay evenly and you can get dig ins.

I bought the Okuma Epixor LS early this past summer. It was super geary right out of the box, so I sent it back to the store. They went on to lose it somehow, so they gave me a replacement Epixor XT (20 size) as an apology. And again, totally useless. Geary and super tight. Send it back for a replacement tet again and got another replacement that was fine. Still a bit tight, but very usable. Been using that one since the end of June and it has hold up quite well to some smaller pike and larger perch. It’s actually become a bit smoother over time. The reel (and bail) seems super solid. I also have had(one was stolen) a couple of Okuma Inspiras.(similar design to the epixors) They also have this slight tightness. The first couple I tried in the store were very geary and unpleasant before I found a usable one. The materials and designs are great, but Okuma seems to lack in the qc department, at least on the newer spinning reels. I live in south eastern Norway so I fish mostly freshwater. 10 to 1 fresh to saltwater fishing trips.

The only thing that worries me about the $100.00 and down Daiwa LT reels is the lack of line roller bearing. I wonder if that would contribute to line twist problems? Hello, Is the Daiwa Fuego 1000 and 2500 the same size reels? Looking for an ultralight set up. If so, I would get the 2500 b/c it would hold more line.

Hi Scooby , is the daiwa ballistic LT 6000 really only have 26.4” line per handle turn? is it really lower than 2000 size??? is that an error they put online?
@TackleAdvisors6 жыл бұрын
Hey man. It's slower than the reels I use for the surf but the 26" is incorrect. I think if I remember correctly I measured it at 32 or 33"

I got kind of confused towards the end what your top choice $99 salt-water reel is; BG, Akuma Pixer XT, or something else...?

@@TackleAdvisors I am very excited to see your next review about the New Nasci. I would like to ask You about the New and Old versions of Nascis's. I live outside of the US and because of currency differences etc the new and old version has around 50$ difference. Should I give this price to the new one or the old version is still a very good choice ? I do shore fishing for seabass. Thanks for help :)

Hey there, is the stem flex present in the higher end models, like in the caldia, tatula or ballistic lt, or only in the lower price point models?
@TackleAdvisors6 жыл бұрын
None of the zaion framed reels that i've used exhibit any noticeable flex like found in the fuego on down. ZERO.
@StriperPursuit5 жыл бұрын
So I have a legalis and fuego both 2500 sized that I put a lot of striper torture through and they both ended up having the same problem after a lot of fights in high current. They ended up making a loud gear grinding sound that you could also feel while reeling and while they still functioned and were fairly smooth-ish they were annoying to use. I've opened both of them up and everything still looks fine but they still have the same feel afterwards. Do you think the gears could've messed up in a different way cause I can't figure it out? I'm upgrading to the ballistic hoping it won't do that.

Does the Daiwa Tatula LT have a bearing on the line roller or just a sleeve?
@amilanan6 жыл бұрын
It has one bearing and one collar. I have the 3000 size with the shallow spool and I love it for my fw-bass-walleye setup.

I have a Fuego 2500xh LT, I find it a little too loud for my liking. its brand new so I don't know if its just mine or if its like that cause of the mag seal.
@TackleAdvisors6 жыл бұрын
Mag seal is silent. Just a liquid gasket. If it's really noisy it's likely a bad reel out of the box. Which happens. I just had a defective concept z3 and prototype TX and 2 other defects this year. But if it's just noise in your house and has never had a load out on it it may not even be noticeable and quiet down some with use.

@@TackleAdvisors yeah I plan on trying to put some use to it before seeing if I should return it for a new one.

Nice review can you put loctite on the handle screw ,that would stop it from popping off on a rough boat ride or rough use etc ?
@mikefromdicks37056 жыл бұрын
I bought an okuma on sale way back in the day, think it was the avenger series. 5 years of fishing for catfishing in santee all the way to catching stingrays in the surf in Charleston. Elias’ main gear looks just as bad as mine. In what 5 months, that’s insane!

nice to see a review under so much abuse. but a question i have as a casual angler is how long does the magseal last under very little use/storage? does it dry up? If it was easy/cheap to replace the oil things would be different but daiwa doesn't seem very forthcoming which makes me very hesitant to by anything with magseal.
@TackleAdvisors4 жыл бұрын
I read some issues 5plus years ago... I haven't heard any issues of it drying out in awhile

Have two Nasci's (4 + 5000 size) and they are super super smooth. Agree with you on the hex key handle, and I am not crazy about the bail arm which feels a little flimsy and other than that I do like the Nasci. The slow oscillation on the epixor does look awesome. Would love to see what difference it would make in casting distance between itself, the LT and Nasci?? Anyway, thank you yet again for another super video. All the best.
