OK, I've just done some maths. If I'd got up at 7 and had a quick breakfast, set my hair the night before and did my make up after breakfast I would have finished the dress by 11:30am. This would give me half an hour to brush out my hair, get dressed and get to wherever lunch was. I was only half an hour late coz I procrastinated for half an hour watching KZbin videos after breakfast 🤣

Using the lace as the bias is absolute GENIUS! Wow...love it. Since discovering the challenge, Im suddenly seeing so many other costubers Ive never met, so very happy to add you to subscribe list. I missed the challenge, but ive been an historical costumer for over 20 years now, and I was SO happy that you mentioned in passing, pain and sleep clock. SO - OMG, I wanted to high five you.!! Ppl are just so rare to costube the effects of chronic pain. There are quite a number but few talk about it much. Ive lived with chronic pain since childhood, (im now a BIT older!!) but since my children left home (while i had children I HAD to be up in the morning, but my husband frequently took them to school), but now Im living my days the way my body WANTS to...I too cannot EVER make any medical appt, or have friends over before 12. I generally wake at 10?-ish...sometimes later, it takes a couple hours to get moving...rest late arvo, and asleep about 1 to 2 am. And thats with melatonin. But i have about only 4 to 5 functional hours in my day..but only if I rest loads.

Thank you so much 💖 I totally get that, with the fibro I'm basically like a cat, napping most of the day lol. @@craftingwithcasca Thats fabulous. In this day and age we need as much honesty we can give ppl, because its the only way to remove stigma and normalise our life, as ours is JUST as valid as any others, but we are treated my many as if our life isnt quite as important. Retro CLude said in one video, she forces herself to take a break each hour or so, even if she feels she doesnt need it, as it extends her useful hours in the day by one or two - which adds up over the course of the week. That was the most sensible advice Ive heard in a long while. But as one with a long life of debility, my best advice is to accept how your body works, try and work out why(only tho if it helps you sleep at night LOL) and work within those confines. Remember, many have disabilities that are not physical and the world makes adaptations for them (ADHD, ASD etc) so expect to be treated the same way. The way you see yourself will help others accept your physical boundaries! Welll done you,. Only wish i had the confidence at your age as this generation does now.

I'm working on the challenge, too. Had an issue with the back bodice piece (#1) but it's all sorted now. Now I just have to adjust the size. That'll be fun seeing I'm going to have to add 25.5 inches to this pattern in order to fit me. Eeck!! 😲😲 Fun times! As for the neck gaping I'm thinking, instead of doing neck darts maybe taking up the shoulder seams a bit. Often when people have gaping it's because their shoulder slope is lower than what a pattern shows. (Learned that from some videos on the Threads Sewing channel.) Just lower the shoulder seam at about a quarter of an inch at the shoulder/neck point (where the shoulder meets the neck) and then taper it out to zero on the edge of the armscye. And maybe do test fit first before stitching it down to be sure that a quarter of an inch will do the trick.

Really good video and comments throughout. Really cute fabric and great solutions to running out of bias tape and hemming! One thing you can do to hide bra straps - if a garment has shoulder seams - is to add a tab of bias tape, with a snap, to each shoulder seam. The snap allows you to get bra straps hidden and keep them hidden. Would a series of tiny tucks or gathers solve the neck gape problem?
@craftingwithcasca2 жыл бұрын
Thank you ❤️ That bra strap trick sounds really useful.

Cute! Super interesting seeing the vintage version done up. It seems like the repro had gaping in the neckline too. It does look like it may be meant to be somewhat off the shoulder. Maybe some ruching in the shoulders would narrow the neckline?

Yeah, it is cut quite wide so I wondered if it was done internationally, like to make the shoulders look wider and make the waist look smaller. My shoulders are just too narrow for that though.

I haven't tried mine yet (just had my 4 year olds bday party last week then surgery yesterday, planning to throw it in with the Halloween costume sewing), but yours is such an inspiration! it looks great! I love it in your thumbnail with the black shirt under, I dont do sleeveless and wasnt sure how a cardigan would look with this but I think im going to do an under shirt instead. did having the shirt under help at all with the dress pulling down to the front when wearing? I've heard it's it's common problem. for the front either some neck darts or I've seen dresses that have kind of like a reverse box pleat on the center front to pull in the neckline and it just adds a cute little detail that I think would look great and kind of mirror the look of the skirt, if that makes sense. also, loved the lace instead of binding on the top, im going to remember that trick for the future. loved your video, subscribed because you seem like a good virtual sewing buddy to have ❤

Thank you so much and good luck with yours! That box pleat idea sounds really good and is definitely going on the list of things to try. To be honest I didn't notice much difference in the fit with the undershirt. Probably due to consentraiting on the neckline issues (and trying to do that twirl multiple times and getting caught up in the curtains 😂).
@peepla72 жыл бұрын
Maybe straighten out the shoulder seams. You have straight shoulders, the pattern is made on the assumption that the shoulders are slanted so maybe if you straightened out the shoulder seam it will hang on you better. Pin it with a straight edge try it on and see if it hangs better ...if it does, then permanently stitch it with the straighter seam.
