This is really great. People are scared of torsens due to them not working when one wheel has zero traction, but with skilled braking, you have shown that people can really make them work well.
@ronaldrrootiii604011 ай бұрын
Better yet if you have aggressive traction control like a Land Rover and it grabs only the spinning wheel immediately then it's even better because it will torque bias that gripping on the spinning wheel instead of pushing the brakes on all the wheels and then you're fighting brake Force plus gripping

Swap in a rear axle housing from a third gen Tacoma with elocker. Strong and not as many issues as air lockers and then sell your current third, typically can't get as much for a whole housing since they are a pain to ship to people. Be worth more to separate if you do go third gen Tacoma route.

Thats the same set up I've been thinking about for my old Ram 1500 (1998). The torsen is available for the Dana 44 in the front but not for the Chrysler 9.25. I think the actual torsens lock up a bit better than the trutrac. I was debating doing a selectable locker in the front but I'm nervous about all the maintenance and this will not be a rock crawler, more of an aggressive overland.

Planning on putting a truetrac on 3rd gen TRD off road since I don’t see myself ever using the e locker. Not to mention being able to do actual burnouts is always a plus especially with the manual 6 speed.
@ronaldrrootiii604011 ай бұрын
If you have traction control it really really works well with it. I have it on my own Land Rover and I think the Toyota a track is pretty similar to the Old Land Rover type. Maybe less aggressive but still if it grips just the spinning wheel it helps even more cuz then you don't have to tap the brakes and apply it brake Force to all the wheels which is kind of counterproductive

If you tap the brake or pull the parking brake on open diffs, it will also act as a pseudo locker. The locker obsession is a function of the loss of skill in the ‘sport’. Most off-roaders don’t need lockers - they need to learn how to use their brakes in a pinch. Also, you’re sitting on a little legend with this truck. It’s the last Tacoma that’s similar to earlier trucks that were off-road centered, rather than mall and street centered. The 109” wheelbase is the only wheelbase in the Tacoma line that matches Jeep LJs and XJs. It’s a huge sleeper.

Have you had any issues with grinding noise/vibrations when letting off the gas pedal? I believe it has to do with the drive shaft. My reg cab just started doing this in 4th/ 5th gear mostly.
@predictionpain26328 ай бұрын
Yes, I added grease at all the fittings, it helped but didn’t fix it. I recently put a dual transfer case in so I needed a shorter rear drive shaft. I put in a double cardon shaft, it fixed the vibration. I also shimmed the rear axel will a 5 degree shim. I would first research drive shaft angles to see how much of a shim you need, if that doesn’t fix it then a double cardon shaft probably will.

In two wheel drive the Torsen is completely undetectable. The true trac in the rear will chirp if you gun it around a corner. In four wheel drive the steering stiffness up because of the Torsen, I like how it feels though. No complaints on the street at all.

Things were a lot easier with one dog. Adding another dog will take a toll on your wallet, patience and house. Also, It may stress out the dog you already have. That being said if you have the time, energy and resources, it may be a great fit. Socialize the puppy a lot, and take it to obedience school, also get an e collar to train it.
