I always wanted to to do a rear disc conversion on my Tacoma when I had it. Unfortunately at the time there wasn't a lot of support for it and what was their was very cost prohibitive. It's still pretty pricey but I'm glad to see that there are more options out there.

it would have been more efficient to upgrade your front brakes instead of the rear. most of the braking comes from the front brakes. the oem drum brakes have way more surface space for friction than the new disc brakes, which in an emergency stops you want more surface space. disc brakes in the rear would be better for cooling, but no one is racing around enough in a tacoma to even over heat the drum brakes. regardless of all this, the rear disc brakes look way cooler and have a more modern look.

One of rhe advantage of have rear brake discs is you forget about adjusting it and always have braking power at once you hit the pedals, also front brake pads last at it should be.

I wonder if you can rent/borrow a brake line bender from a parts store? That would take the worry out of accidentally crimping the axle hard line

braking bias should mostly be in the front, not 50/50. car weight shifts forward when braking hence why front brakes should be doing the work. when car weight shifts forward with 5050 split, the tail end starts coming out to the sides and you will not brake in a straight line.

The real reason Toyota continued to use rear drum breaks is to prevent sand/rocks/random debris from getting stuck in the pads when you went off road. I came to see how to do the conversion because I don't off road, but you said some things that are inaccurate and just show the lack of understanding.

this statement is so not true my 21 tacoma is on its 3rd set of drums just because everytime i cross small rivers or take it thru deep mud all the debris gets stuck in there and prematurely wears the shoes, components and the drum itself. wished toyota ditched these cheap brakes like how nissan did with the dated frontier.
