I ain’t American I’m English not that there’s much difference as yanks were birthed from these shores but I got to say that John Wayne was a legendary actor particularly when it came too westerns, If you ain’t a fan of westerns then your not gonna be a fan of John Wayne but there’s nothing better than sitting down on a Sunday eating a Roast Dinner with a few bevy’s watching a John Wayne western 👌🏼 Plus he was a republican which makes it all the better!

@@GoodOlRoll No, its true. Wyatt, when he was an older man was actually good friends with john ford who produced/directed most of the early cowboy/western films. John wayne was just an up an coming actor, and would usually be in the background or have just a few lines. So while sitting on set he watched and studied how he walked, due to a lifetime of riding a horse. He also would listen to him and ford talk and started imitating his speaking cadence. So later on, when wayne became a star, he was essentially just doing an impression of wyatt Earp the whole time. Sounds like bs, i know, but look it up, its legit.

My favorite story about John Wayne is that John Ford ridiculed him on the set of Liberty Valance for failing to enlist in WWII during which Ford filmed a series of widely praised combat documentaries for the OSS and was wounded at the Battle of Midway while Jimmy Stewart served with distinction as a bomber pilot and commanded a bomber group. "How rich did you get while Jimmy was risking his life?" he demanded. Its funny because Wayne was portrayed as a badass in the film while Stewart was a coward and in reality it was the other way around.

@Paddy.C
@Paddy.C 4 жыл бұрын
It's certainly an interesting story for anyone interested in movie history. That berating from Ford rankled Wayne so much that as soon as the US went into Vietnam, he got straight behind the war effort by making 'The Green Berets', to promote patriotism and support for the troops. That brass/copper looking bracelet he wore on his wrist was a gift from a Vietnamese tribe of anti-communist fighters, who wanted to confirm John Wayne as their ally. He was so proud to finally be recognised as 'serving the cause' that he never took it off, and is apparently buried with it. The negative reaction to 'The Green Berets' was so strong that it actually helped create a new genre of war movies such as 'Platoon', 'Full Metal Jacket', and the remake of 'Heart of Darkness', 'Apocalypse Now', which were more about the confusion, horror, and brutality of war, rather than a clichéd, saccharine tale of the good guys beating the bad guys. So, whichever side of the fence you spread your picnic blanket on, there's no denying that John Wayne inspired a great many people.

It was on the set if They Were Expendable that Ford gave Wayne a hard time about not serving. Co-star Robert Montgomery, who came back from serving in the Navy, told Ford to stop it. Ford did. I read somewhere that Wayne wanted to enlist in the OSS. Why that didn’t happen I don’t know.

John Ford, Howard Hughes, John Huston, Howard Hawks are legendary filmmakers and worked with Wayne. If he was terrible, they wouldn't have. Spielberg wanted to cast him for 1941 but he declined. Ant has limited film knowledge if he thinks John Wayne didn't make great movies. He has more great movies than most actors. @@wes11bravo No worries, I’m old too. My earliest movie theatre memories are Indiana Jones and The Temple Of Doom and Return Of The Jedi. The guy watching Brannigan get in the taxi was Private Hook from 'Zulu'. Also, Brian Glover was the one about to lose his teeth, he voiced Gaffer, leader of the Tetley tea folk, and was in 'An American Werewolf in London', and 'Alien 3'.

@J V Yup, you'll get no argument from me on that score, I stopped paying attention when they revealed that Newt and Hicks had died. It's the only one of the franchise that I won't bother watching if it's on TV.

@@Paddy.C don't tell me you condone Alien:Resurrection lol. I will admit I'll watch it but I watch it with contempt. Alien 3 was an awful movie though that almost tried to ruin the first two.

@Paddy.C 3 жыл бұрын
@@skylarkirkland3768 I see Alien Resurrection as a worse version of Aliens (bunch of bad-asses using heavy firepower to fight multiple aliens), whereas Alien 3 was a worse version of Alien (bunch of unarmed people trapped in a location with a single alien, trying to trap and kill it while it stalks and kills them). I don't mind Alien Resurrection so much, because the action sequences, special effects, and general carnage make it pretty watchable despite the plot. Alien 3 doesn't have any of that, so for me, absolutely nothing to redeem it

More realistic murders. Other than that I don't see why. Thought they were decent movies.Older reviews are much better. Those trying to make a name, or millennials with confidence problems call this a bad movie. I like it and McQ as well.

@@patrickroy3380 Funny? Meh. I don't see how contradiction is funny. "Biggest name around, I mean John Wayne. Terrible actor. Don't see how he got so huge." I do. Probably because you wouldn't know good acting if it bit you in the a$$." Now that's funny AND true of these nitwits. Name another artist who had 100% hits with no average material.

Glad this pairing didn't pan out. Dave just doesn't match the pace or perspective of Ant. Few do. Of course, Jimmy and more recently Gavin McInnes, both of whom are far more natural riffing with him.

I usually fall asleep if I watch a John Wayne movie, though I really liked his last movie The Shootist, he actually gave a performance that made you feel something for his character in that movie, even if he was dying from cancer but perhaps that was the reason.

You should check out the audio commentary for the film Hot Fuzz (2007) - It's Quentin Tarantino and Edgar Wright talking shit, they must have mentioned 150 different obscure films from the 70s, rarely talking about the actual movie Hot Fuzz. They go on a spiel about Brannigan (and there's actually an actor from the film and references to Brannigan in Hot Fuzz) Great stuff.
