@@friedporchetta But does Opie even have millions at this point? I get that he has properties/assets valued in the millions between the Hamptons house and Manhattan apartment, but as far as liquidity goes I would assume he's been doing early withdrawals on his pension/retirement funds. F.H. Rileys closed down and I somehow doubt Opie secretly owns a dry cleaning empire or chain of successful shoe stores. A guy that is truly wealthy in Manhattan doesn't give up his private parking spot and sit in his car for hours at a time to move it to another spot so he doesn't get ticketed.

t's baffling because he only had a sense of 'Anti-Humor' and as pointed out, he was so empty that he thinks you stomp a cake or you throw a gift into someone's face, smash a guitar. He didn't even 'get' that's not how it works. AND YET he seemed surprisingly good at picking out funny people to do the show. He was actually aware that Patrice O'Neal was golden. He immediately recognized Anthony was a Mimic master. He did recognize these things YET he himself, its like a part of his brain was damaged where he could not comprehend how to actually do the funny things or words.

@@hunterbiden7890 I disagree. Most normal people. Almost all, if they have a good sense of humor (so, our premise is they recognize funny) they will also comprehend how to be funny or what would be funny things to say. In this case, more importantly what not to do and say. This is why Erock will actually know when he's bombed and really most guests (not comedians) but if they find the show funny will also be a guest that knows when to not interrupt and when to try and add or feed a setup or an angle for the pros to play on or when to get out of the way. Comprehension. Opie was having brain damage with the 'comprehension' part where he'd recognize Patrice, Aunt and Jimmy were on some huge roll, zingers, one-ups, what-ifs and square in the middle would suddenly belch and burp into the mic. One could argue that Brakemaster Opie actually did comprehend what was funny but then you have to accept Opie was evil, malicious and a saboteur of nasty proportions. I prefer to think it was brain damage.

Yeah I LOVE when Ant (or especially Jim) let themselves critique Opie cause it's usually so biting and insightful that it's satisfying af. But a couple of Ant's recent clips discussing Opie aren't as strong. They used to always hit. Hope we can get more Ant/Jim Opie discussion

I agree OP, Ant has a super wimpy trait of rolling with things he’s (allegedly) not okay with until he’s a safe distance away, and then whining about it afterwards. See his marriage for more details.

Ant also "laughed" at the cake stomp. Its a nervous fake laugh to try to make it seem like comedy. Cause without it, it comes off as it is. A cringy hacky act.

@@NothingToPointOut24 EXACTLY. could you imagine if Ant and Jim sat there and scolded Opie seriously? they'd never hear the end of it. Opie literally threw the poker chips at the girl. she CRIED in the elevator about that FACT alone. she didn't care he hated the gift; she cared that he threw it at her. she could have had him arrested, which i wouldn't agree with, but she could have. that's how much an a-hole he is.

I have my reasons for turning on Opie, but Anthony was being kind of a girl here. He wasn't completely honest. I probably haven't listened to one hundredth of the total output of Opie & Anthony but there are some funny things I remember Opie saying and doing, such as calling Lisa Loeb on her bullsh it with her "greatest hits" album, for example.

The straw that broke the camel's back for me, yay nana sayings, in regards to Gregg, was Ant revealing (and I 100% believe Anthony) that Steve C self-"exited" because of Gregg's actions towards Steve. The fact that Ant could build a moderate empire rather quickly after being fired from Opie and Anthony proves who had the real talent at the end.

Opie did that because he heard howies bit where he put staffers Xmas gifts to him in a wood chipper, which was a dick move but was actually hilarious somehow. But opie just could not make that funny in any way. Somehow even though Howie sucks ass now he was still funny about ripping on gifts people on staff gave him.

I will say at the beginning they definitely needed Opie. He had a confidence and the ability to market the show and a comfort level with the executive, White Collar class that Anthony was obviously lacking... oftentimes the most talented people in an industry especially in the creative or professional athlete Industries are terrible and despised any kind of self-promotion. You have to have a cheerleader someone to navigate that world to grow an audience and educate people on how good you are. It's not supplementary to good talent it's necessary to good talent then going on and being where the show eventually ended up nationally. If a high school kid is throwing 100 Mi an hour but doesn't have any advocates and no professional baseball Scouts know his name or his abilities then he might as well be throwing 80 mph

I was listening to one radio bit with Patrice, and they were commenting on this feminists book, making fun of it, and the author feminist lady called in, and Patrice was having a serious conversation with her trying to make her see things his way, and he was making some head-room, and she was actually starting to listen to him, and Opie just randomly goes "CUUUUUUUNNNNTTT" or something like that, in the middle of the conversation, and she immediately hung up. That is the moment i realized Opie was a shitty person. Patrice was kind of upset cause he was trying to seriously get the lady to change her opinion with some good facts. Realllly lame of opie, and it wasnt even funny. Opie was the only one that thought it was funny... lmao
