nice piece, for me, my thought is, City had not anticipated Arsenal's aggressive pressing . With the pressing and Cancelo inverted, City found it challenging when Arsenal won the ball back and started their transitions, of course there were many bodies in the middle so little space but with some of Arsenal players' ball playing quality esp. Tierney or Martineli, they often found spaces to sneak in passes and transit or switch flanks. Now Cancelo is in a dilemma on whether to track back to regain the back 4 which then leaves Rodri alone and Vulnerable coz the two 10s(KDB and Silva) are in advanced positions or stick to the pivot position and expose the back 3 to Arsenal forwards. He decided to go back and Arsenal walked through the space he left in the middle before Bernado could close it down. That's how the goal came by. Thanks mate

How football is cruel. Arsenal got Man City on their backside completely in the first half. The trio of Odergard, Xhaka and Partey ran the show in the middle. In second half, the only time Martinelli didn’t support Thierney resulted in Xhaka coming across to cover and Bernardo Silva made a meal out of it. Don’t know why Gabriel got the yellow card prior to the penalty. That open miss by Martinelli was damn crucial. Seconds after that, Gabriel got the second yellow card. After that, it’s all Man City.

Pep needs to learn to adapt from the bench or the substitutes from first half when he sees a problem or a weakness, city needed gundogan in order to allow Bernardo to operate high up the pitch alongside mahrez, to create an overload as they usually do (even the pen came from that side, mahrez/silva combination), in this game Bernardo was too central and playing too deep and city with arsenal being perfect at staying compact in the middlefield, with front three, maybe foden should have replaced sterling, he was slow and at times overdoing his dribbles, hence arsenal where comfortable when sterling had the ball because he doesn't do quick passes like mahrez or Bernardo. . City missed the mahrez/walker/Bernardo combination and cancelo operating as an LB in this game, this squad would have at least let arsenal to have a mid press and a deep press

Another great vid from.our FMS guru. City was lucky to get 3 points out of this game - the red card completely changed the game and made City’s victory effectively inevitable. And given City’s talent level, it’s hard to see them NOT winning the league being 11 points clear and that the two other contenders, Chelsea and Liverpool, have, like that crazy significant other, LOTS of issues. If they draw tomorrow, that may be all she wrote. Here are a bunch of other takeaways from this game. (1) Martinelli was VERY impressive. (2) Pep’s ongoing experiment to find somebody - ANYBODY - to play the 9 continues to falter. This game showed DeJesus cannot do it and City remains a team of great wingers and midfielders. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but it’s going to make central close in attacks harder. (3) I was very impressed at how Arsenal handled DeBruyne. To me, neutralizing him in the key to having a shot at beating City. (4) Not having Kyle Walker out there makes City very vulnerable to the press. Very shrewd tactics on the part of Arsenal to press hard and at times I thought, “wow, City looks ordinary trying to play out from the back.” Bottom line, you look at the City performance today and you wonder, “Gee how can THESE guys be up double digit points in the table?” Well, it’s a combination of luck, AND talent, and more talent than the rest of the league. And so they find ways to win.

Terrific performance ruined by Gabriel, Xhaka and Martinelli. City were panned in and couldn't escape the Arsenal's press in the 1st half. I think if Xhaka doesn't grab Silva's shirt, the penalty wouldn't have been given, (since Silva was clearly looking for it) Gabriel wouldn't have been booked leading to his foolishness and Martinelli might not have missed that open-goal chance.

@@littlegreenguy4130 Yes, I can. Missing a chance is the striker's equivalent of a defensive mistake. You can't be missing chances at the highest level like that. No matter how well a forward player played, it ultimately means nothing if they don't put the ball into the net.
@xJin683 жыл бұрын
@@BubblesChika Kind of a wrong take imo, especially in a team sport like football. Your last sentence is the reason why the score isn't what really matters while watching the game but what happens during it. I know it is hard to be objective when you consider a chance as an unerring action, but you have to step back and look at the big picture, sure chances were made possible but team performance and especially the perf of an individual should never be judged on the result or some actions, whats happening before is what should really matters. Or you can cherry-pick any actions disregarding whats truely important in the overall perf. Here blaming the guy for an action, after what he did is beyond my comprehension. I see that as the french fans blaming Mbappe after the Euro because he missed a pen. Or the ones blaming Saka after the final. Or the ones blaming Pauleta and CR after the 2004 euro final. It is too simple to resume and define an action as what made a lose or a win, no player should have that burden on his shoulders, they are 11 on the field (or 10 in that context lol).
@xJin683 жыл бұрын
No matter what level it is, consider the 90+ minutes and every actions, or none of it, regardless or what suits your expectations, simple as that. Clear chances or not, look at it with another look: they made possible these chances. And for Martinelli perf, tbh I prefer to talk about Cancello being destroyed most of the match, the constant pressure Martinelli was able to make, and overall what he's already capable of for a 20yo player (hard to compare to Saka and other Monstruous wonderkids while coming from the third or fourth brazilian division), sick from my pov, also it is his first year without malleole issues (sry don't know the english word) but I guess it "means nothing" because during a game he didn't "put the ball into the net" ya know 😅 Let's be serious they lost because of multiple factors and elements, I hate to point referee decisions but it was a thing during that match (I'm not a cityzen/gunner fan, i swear lol) and overall it is way better to look at that game as a sign of improvement, it is a good reference point to look at to work around the end of that season. There's no one to blame, especially not the brazilian, as said LittleGreenGuy it was one of the best player on the pitch during that game REGARDLESS of the result 😉
@BubblesChika3 жыл бұрын
@@xJin68 Yeah, I get that but football is a game of fine margins and you just can't be missing such guilt-edge chances with the goal gaping at your mercy at the highest level. It's just like when Hudson-Odoi messed up that 2v1 in Chelsea's favour against Brighton. He also missed a golden chance to score in the early moments of the game against United, too. Missing a chance is the equivalent of a defensive howler like Xhaka's foolishness for the penalty or Gabriel's stupidness in pulling Jesus back for the sending off.

It is time the EPL should review their officiating standards. The Premier League is not a closed door encounter where the officials can be biased in their decisions and get away with it. Millions of fans all over globe are the third official. This involves the integrity of the EPL and it is unlikely that they would want to portray the image that the officials are involved in some kind of match fixing scandal. Taking this game as an example, the possibility of the VAR official making an error in his judgement of Odegaard's penalty claim was zero. He had a microscopic view of the incident which gave him no excuse to vindicate himself. Further, Stuart Atwell did not have the decency to even look at the replay on field. Surprisingly, he did it for Manchester City's penalty. There is only one possible conclusion, the officials are taking sides on Manchester City. They want to influence the outcome of this game for whatever reasons behind the scene. Apart from this, there were other one sided decisions against the home side such the Gabriel's second yellow card, City's potential red card offence and so forth. With so many eye catching evidences within a game is rarely seen. Stuart Atwell became the 12th man of City but wearing black and indeed he performed way above expectation from City's perspective. He was pivotal in giving all three precious points to the Manchester side. After this is said and done, it is in due fairness to the Arsenal FC and their fans that the EPL should conduct an investigation. By letting it rest with time without any aftermath action by the EPL, will only invoke more suspicion of match fixing.

Best performance in years by Arsenal and Arteta wasn’t in the dugout. Surprise? I think not. The guy has 0 man management skills and it showed today. First half was great and then the zoom call happens at half time and things go bad. Arteta ain’t the man.

U sound very ignorant....arsenal resent improvement has been bcoz of arteta and arsenal have had great performances with Mikel on the dugout .... All those young talented youngsters rises during arteta tenure,he wasn't in the dugout but we know who was pulling the strings and its not the assistant manager....you are a clown

@@dennisgichohi5392 Arsenal choosing to play Xhaka every game is Arteta's fault.

@Alex George if you think that Arteta doesn’t have any say at half time then you’re lying. You mention individual errors yet he plays Granit Xhaka who gives away the penalty. Btw it was a penalty because of the tug on the shirt which again sums Xhaka up. Anyway, not an Arsenal fan and I enjoy Arteta in charge. May it continue.

@@dennisgichohi5392 man management doesn’t come from Arteta if he’s not there. There’s different ways of getting things across to the players and the assistant manager clearly did things right.
