Hey Matt, you mention frog presentation, how they float. I love the Spro pop frog has a flat float. I have a strike king Kvd that sits vertical which makes me not use it, but the plastic is so soft that it should have high hookup ratio. Is there a method you recommend for presentation on a vertical frog? You mentioned this around 8:38 in the vid. To me it feels like it’s soaking up water every cast. A vid about the when and how to work different frogs based on their specific presentation factor would be sweet.

I think it’s just a matter of general quality. I fish them a lot too but I definitely upgrade to my better frogs when I’m in pressured waters, teaching someone to walk it, etc. That said, if you’re unsure about frogging they’re the best thing to buy and fish for a couple days to build confidence without the cost. Plus you can find them anywhere there’s a Walmart.

The pad crashers are great for cutting your teeth, but they’re not the most durable. Pad crashers are what got me hooked on frog fishing, but they wear out quickly. I was lucky if I go ten fish out of one before it was tore up. They’re always good in a pinch though

A really good rod for shorter people and anglers fishing out of a kayak is the Dobyns 7’ Mag Hvy. It has a softer tip and really good backbone and you don’t need to worry about being in the thick stuff and trying to get those fish outta there. The first Dobyns series rods that have this one are the Sierra but they have it in all of the other higher priced series as well.

@MatthiasWorch4 жыл бұрын
Fun(?) fact: I couldn’t walk the Bully Wa II if my life depended on it. I have three, tried it a bunch, and still never get it right. That neither means that the Bully Wa is a bad frog (quite the opposite, obviously!) or that I don’t know how to walk a frog (I’ve caught over 50 frog fish this year on other frogs - mostly the LiveTarget one, which is the same size as the Bully Wa); it just shows that frog fishing is a rather personal affair. If you’re just getting into frogging: ideally you try a selection of frogs and find the one that “speaks” to you. Start with Matt & Tim’s advice because they’re obviously masters of the craft. But if you just can’t seem to get the hang of it, try a different frog and you might be surprised!
@chuckkaleel91054 жыл бұрын
When using the Jackall Kaera frog do you drop down in line size and rod or still use the same as the regular sized frogs?
@shadygraves3 жыл бұрын
If you have a dedicated frog rod (7'5" MH) and DON'T live in Florida, I suggest putting 40lb GLISS on the reel. It's super thin-40lb test is 10lb diameter-plus, it's not braided; it's many strands of Dyneema, thermally extruded- (heated and stretched)- so it's a single, slick strand of extremely small, extremely strong line that is the absolute ultimate in sensitivity and casting. You'll cast 15% further than all other lines. I've fished tiny frogs on it for years and never even consider using another line.

I’m glad matt touched on the gavacho. I picked one up a couple weeks ago in the gold gill color. Holy smokes did the bass here in MN goes nuts for it. Was thinking of bending the hooks slightly upward? Just want the confidence back 😆

Hey Matt, lotta tremendous information. Excellent, excellent video. One thing that I didn’t see covered was skipping. Do you have a recommendation on which frogs skip better than others?
@larrycowden22713 жыл бұрын
You gave an outstanding presentation on frogging! You even included a very helpful presentation on body size vs rod power! I believe that is the first one I have ever seen regarding any type of fishing! Outstanding! NOW for some suggestions. I highly recommend you slow your physical presentation to the camera of the frog when emphasizing a point or feature! Some of the particular points were covered by your fingers. And please, do slow down your hand gestures! As a former Navy instructor, students, in this case your viewers, need that critical few seconds to see, comprehend, and absorb that visual data you want them to see and understand! I found it hard at times and had to replay your video several times to pick up exactly what you were trying to demonstrate!
