The premium car wash give the undercarriage a wash. Living in snow country, that keeps my car from rusting. A rusted out car would decrease the value of my vehicle, and could lead to higher repair expenses. Plus, having a clean undercarriage keeps the salt and chemicals off my garage floor. It’s worth the extra $5 per month on an unlimited car wash subscription.

Ooooor get your car professionally sprayed with lanolin oil every two years. Stops the rust process and you don't need to wash the undercarriage.

The only thing I disagree on is the business class long haul flights. It's not just the flight experience, but your entire day or two afterwards. I've flow the 12 hr overnight Vancouver to Taipei flight multiple times in the past. The flight leaves at 2am and arrives in Taipei at 6am (local times). I used to always fly economy and I would arrive feeling completely drained. I would waste the entire first 2 days jetlagged and feeling like my world is spinning. This time, I tried a business flight and what a difference it made. I was well-rested on the plane and was able to start exploring the city as soon as I got off the plane. For short flights, don't bother. However, if you have an important trip coming up, shell out the money for better seats, at least on the way there.

I gotta say, particularly as someone who doesn’t actually buy Fiji regularly but has had it on occasion - it’s the only water I’ve ever had that I felt I could genuinely taste the difference. And somehow it’s just incredibly soft. Worth a one time purchase just to try 😄

I would also add, too much money spent on unnecessary pet toys, CLOTHES, beds, "exclusive organic foods" that makes the dog poop sparkle, etc. I understand that people want their fur babies taken cared for, but many over do it. I took my sister's dog to the dog park and I saw a dog in a cardigan sweater.

mineral water like San Pellegrino tastes entirely different than tap water! I prefer Gerolsteiner, it has a nice balance of salts and minerals. Yes it costs like $2.30 and I drink 3-4 bottles a week. I could save this money and invest it.. But honestly I would not feel the difference. I am retiring in 1.5 years, and if I switched to tap water, I would still be retiring in 1.5 years.. 😅 The biggest expense I could save on at this point is going out to eat. It costs me and my wife an extra $1000 a month. Yes I could save and invest the extra 12k each year, but it wouldn't change our retirement plans either.

Business class flights aren't for the class benefits, its to price out adults traveling with children. You're paying a premium to greatly increase your odds that nearby travelers can't or won't pay it for small children.

9:00 A disproportionate amount of usefulness gets added on to the higher cost washes. I live in the Midwest of the US, and "bottom blast" or whatever the car wash calls it when they spray a bunch of water at the undercarriage from below to get all the road salt off, is always only available in the higher cost washes. It's also the one thing I really need, because I'm not taking a power washer to the underside of my car when it's 20° F out.

I disagree with checked bag fees. My wife is an insane overpacker. Unless I want to pay half of my net worth in a divorce settlement, I’m better off paying the fee. As for the credit card linked to an airline, it is useless half the time. Problem? It has to be one airline. And when I book, I book the cheapest flight regardless of airline and most of the time, it is NOT the carrier for that card. What is the point of “saving” on the bag fee if you are paying +$70 more for the flight each person?

Try luxury hotels in Japan (especially ones with an onsen); you might reconsider your initial assessment. I'd also say that intent matters. If the purpose of your stay is to explore or do things outside of the hotel, by all means, book frugally. However, if the purpose is to detach, connect with a partner or family, or slow down, luxury stays are quite the treat.

Disagree with luxury car wash in states that get snow and therefore have salted roads. Those upper tiers have underbody and wax applications. The wax can help protect from things like salt but also insects and bird droppings. The underbody wash is self explanatory. The damage from everyday items on a car in decent shape will cost you more than the extra protection you get from the upgraded wash.

The only time I go to a luxury hotel is to use the platinum card's FHR credit. Other than that, I just get a normal hotel or Abnb because the hotel is just a place for me to sleep it. Why do I have the platinum? Its my generic airplane ticket card, because unlike chase or venture x, its not just tied to their portal, and it's 5x on all airlines.

Glad a second home worked for you as an investment. I do worry what will happen to the second home market when baby boomers age out of this “second home” phase in 10-12 years. I suspect prices will decline, especially in true vacation spots that are hard to reach, as they all try to sell during the same 5-10 year period (2035-2045). Hopefully you will mark-to-market on your second home investment before that happens to lock in your excellent returns.
