What are your thoughts on ROI for PA school? Assuming cost of living is us average, and average tution. It seems like a great career but what about the debt and opportunity cost of 500 hours of patient care experience plus pre requisites for non premed majors, and not working for 2.5 years? Im considering the field, but im financially concerned at 27.

*Choosing occupations on projections of high, sustained projected growth over a decade seems risky to me.* Health care and higher education in particular have been growing at unsustainable rates for decades, and both fields are ripe for brutal corrections. When those corrections hit, wages will stagnate or drop, and anyone who isn’t vital will be at risk for layoffs. The disruption of AI to many of the fields presented here is difficult to assess, but likely impactful.

Won’t happen with nursing, nothing in healthcare can function without them and as a nurse I can say there’s a really bad shortage. AI can never replace nursing too, I’d really like to see an AI try

@@jasmineguttenbeil Burn out is unreal, lack of support, respect, they expect you to work 2 weekends a month plus holidays. Just being a nurse isn't great. I do not plan on being a nurse full time. The pay is trash unless your travel nurse. Most places give you 1 nurse to 6-7 pts, 1-5 pct, 1-3 icu. Unless you live in California as a nurse or out west I strongly would do something different. If I knew what my life would be like now as a nurse I would 100 percent pick a different career.
