Graeme has had more than his fair share of double hookups on camera, but in this fish-filled session he had no idea what he would latch into on ultra-light 13-foot match rods and chilled Prawn for hookbait.....It proved one of the best afternoon sessions he has ever had,and you can bet he will be stocking his freezer with a few packs of prawns from now on....Sit back and enjoy...he filmed the entire sequence on his own,but gave thanks to Willoughby and Ben for helping him out with his final photo!

This was filmed a while ago - but Prawns are still a deadly bait all year round. Have you ever fished with Prawns? They can be great for Perch in winter too, underneath the overhanging snags.

TAFishing - yes Graeme, I’ve caught loads of catfish ( mainly channel cats) on prawns ( shrimp here in states). But good bait either way! I’m pretty sure I’ve caught Carp on shrimp too, of course the Carp over here will eat all sorts of stuff, so it doesn’t surprise me any of the things they’ll eat! Back in the late 70’s I used to go to this creek I knew of and seine crawdads ( crayfish) , I would usually keep the small to medium size crawdads and put them in a plastic bowl w/lid, and NO Water!! Just crayfish alone, and then freeze them, then when I went fishing I would take them out of the freezer and let them slowly thaw out, but they were best used still frozen, just hook them through the tail once and fish under a float, I always caught Big Carp on them! The Carp loved frozen crawdads!

Been using prawns to good effect for years, there doesn't seem to be a coarse fish that doesn't like them. The little tubs of prawn in brine from LIDL are ideal session packs but I've found that raw, unshelled prawns are far better if you're after a big stripey. As a general note, if you're catching small perch in a swim then its time to move as that's generally an indicator that there are no bigguns nearby, due to their cannibalistic tendencies perch only hang around with similar size fish. Personally my favourite method for singling out the better fish is live baiting where allowed and big fat lobworms as a back up

Tried prawns yesterday but on hair rig, minor success. Im glad I saw this today as free-lining direct to hook appeals to me as I find ledgering can be irksome. Will try prawn to hook on main line, letting the bait naturally sink. Ive come to fishing relatively late in life but love it. Really enjoy your videos, thanks a lot for the advice and entertainment 👍 The sense of community here is heartwarming, everyone can help each other but no-one oversteps the mark. Respect rather than disturbance UPDATE 30 NOV 2021...massive day in the margins, deepest Suffolk: 11 perch, one at 3lb+, 2 mirrors < 6lb each and an 8lb common (weighed) - all freelined to a single bb. 2 fat mirrors on the float to end the day. All on tesco prawns, standard size. Thanks Graeme!

Yep, used prawns for two or three years just before I packed it all in and had amazing success with them. Like Doug Hensley said, crayfish tails work really good for the bigger carp but especially Perch as they are a bit to big for the smaller fish, ...you can get em in little tubs at Lidl too along with TJDolhouse86's prawns. They cost a bit more but will almost guarantee you a bigger fish. Thanks for reminding me of this one, it's one I enjoyed a lot when I watched it first time so watched it again :-)

Enjoyed watching that session Graham, and what a gent allowing the young lad to hold the other fish and be photographed. Great ambassador for the hobby. One comment I wanted to make is that bigger perch tend to come at dusk, well that is what my dad rest his soul used to teach me. he often had an evening session at the local park, and as a youngster I never understood why he always came home in the dark. But he always had some beautiful Perch in his keep net. Anyway Prawns, I think maybe you should opt for King Prawns to target the bigger fish what do you think? That slug escaped to live another day. Thank you for sharing. Tight Lines. Mark

Another great entertaining show ! Thanks. Something I've found to almost eliminate the hook swallowing when fishing specifically for perch is to use a very light weight jig head no6 or similar size hook , baited with worm or whatever & suspended just above bottom , either with coloured heads or not it doesn't seem to matter,. beneath a float I just use an old fashioned fat bodied "perch bob" type, with a couple of shot up the line if needed . The jig hook obviously hangs bend up and nearly all the perch are hooked in the top lip. Using the same method with an ordinary size 6 results in a lot more swallowed hooks again . I suppose also you get a bite registered as soon as the bait is taken with no play in the line like with a ledger link , whichever way the fish moves registers instantly ? Have you ever used that method yourself ?

Love these vids. He has a passion for fishing and is not worried about buying all the gear. This is the type of fishing I love and want to pass on to my sons. When I see guys with £1000's of pounds worth of heavy gear and dressed in full camo its hard not to laugh. Its about simple gear, watercraft and passion for the fishing itself. Young kids need to know 90% of the tackle is nonsense. You need a simple set up simple basic baits and then get cracking. Kids should be allowed to fish on very low cost day tickets or preferably free as well.

Well said !....I'm going to dig out an old photo of me in camo gear,as it was all the rage 50 years ago,and I think its worse now !...everyone has to have matching green.Trouble is they wear all the green stuff so the fish can't see them, then they cast 120 yards to the other side of the lake ?? What's that all about ? Maybe the fish have binoculars.

???? Dont understand. England is a country, Great Britain is a collective of nations. If you are in England you are in Great Britain by default. But if you are "in" Great Britain you wont necessarily be in England.... you might be in Wales or Scotland. England and Great Britain are not the same thing. In fact, as an Englishman, I find it offensive to be referred to as "British". Just saying
